climbing in general has nothing to do with danger. sure, there's danger involved, but there are very very few climbers who say "hey, that looks super dangerous, i'm going to go try it!" as opposed to "whoa, that looks pretty hard, i think im going to go try it."

Honestly, if someone had said (an since I posted someone has said. . .) that Chris Sharma does the route better than Nick Duttle, I would've made the same comment. Go Nick Duttle Go! you did an extremely difficult route that a relatively small number of climbers are capable of! Congrats! But let's not say that someone did a route that Chris has done, better than he did it, just because you're mad the guy gets a little extra publicity for being handsome, likable and talented.

I'm not giving Nick Duttle negative feedback. I'm simply stating that it's stupid to say one climber did a climb better with no basis. The comment seemed to be out of the counter-sharma culture that has developed due to him getting more publicity than other climbers.

Better than someone else is only subjective. There are NO standards to define how to move in climbing. The ratings are the only way to measure one person's climbing against another's.

Yeah I know. I was making a point to Collen122. There are Sharma lovers who think he is completely untouchable and miles above anybody else. But there are people who recognize this is not true and go the other way to say he sucks and is totally hyped and not really that good. I dislike both views. He's truly an amazing climber, who is in the top 5 in the world, but not untouchable. But he's definitely spectacular at what he does; hard, sick, first ascents of beautiful sport routes.

You need to see nick duttle climbing jumbo love. oh wait. nick duttle hasn't ever climbed anything harder than 5.14b. and has only ever climbed two routes harder than 13d.

But why does it have to be competitive? Everyone has a different style, and climbs at their own pace. This isn't Sharma's style of climbing, and maybe it's duttle's. who knows. who cares.
