"all actions are based upon ones intentions" this is the first hadith in the well known bukhari shareef. so one can celebrate the holy prophet sallallahu alahi wasallam birthday becuz muslims celebrate his birth not his death. yes muhammad peace be upon him died when he was 63 on the 12th rabi ul awwal the same date he was born.

Its called Hadra...originally introduced by Abyssinians who did this infront of the Prophet S in Madinah. The Prophet S approved of it and they chanted Muhammad S is the righteous servant (can be found in Ahmed Bin Hambals Musnad)

Inovation biggest I know rose from Jeddah. New group emerged who think they are better than all. Their prayer is better than others. They destroyed our heritage on name of tauheed and now they have nothing better to do than slander other Muslims calling tham mushriks, bida'ati etc. No matter what they do they are still in minority. I have been to Shaam and seen how many people do Hadra. It is a rememberence of Allah and Salawat of RasoolAllah(SAW). Is it bidat?
