Also a lot of Germans of Mosaic religion who fought in WW1 for Germany voted for Hitler as well. Hitler had an excellent PR campaign in one of the most difficult times for Germany (The Great Economic Crisis) and his straight promises of job offering and order seduced a lot of people. The mighty tigers were easy target for bazooka. The only ones that ran were inexperience soldiers or that did not have a bazooka. The SS figure it out the hard way when they decide to send in their tigers against the US 101st airborne without infantry support. American would just wait and blast the tiger sides with bazookas.

It was logistics that won the war and another reason the germans lost. They were at the door step of moscow but they couldnt get the supplies during the winter and the russians prevailed. The Sherman wasn't a match for the Panther either, granted. But neither was the T-34, or even most of the other German tanks themselves.

The Panther was a fine machine, but it in no way represents anything even approaching the majority of German armor until after Germany was running out of everything - including tanks and crews - and lesser tank types were gradually attritioned off.

Why are people comparing Panther with Pershings? Pershing came out like two years after the Panther. It's like comparing Panzer III with Sherman.

Of course it's propaganda, that's why they chose the M3 Lee, because it was a horrible design.

If Germany hadn't have had their asses bombed so much and didn't lack as many ressources, they would have fitted the King Tiger with a much better engine and corrected it's problems. That would have made quite a good oponent for the Pershing.

I agree to some point with you zeratule, the King Tiger i would have stopped, even though its huge size was intimidating, too many problems with it, although i would have went ahead with the Tiger concept, they had some bugs, but they were iron'd out quickly. The Tiger was a beast, and made most Russian soldiers run the other way when it approached, and it ate T-34's like breakfast. I do like the Panther though, simply years ahead of its time. and they ate T-34's as well. Good Post!

Probably that's true. As probably it's true that americans didn't care a fuck about tanks because they counted on their air supremacy that made "tabula rasa" to panzern divisions (that could move only in the night or when it was foggy), railways, and above all the fuel stocks that germans needed to run their expensive tanks.

Yes indeed. Look for example at the Battle of the Bulge. Started brilliantly by the Germans. Rapid penetration within days/weeks. Lost 'cause the guys didn't capture the fuel stocks. Man, sounds like an Irak "avant la lettre", excuse my French:)

If German armour was so lame, why was it that the only two armies in the war with sloped glacial armour were Germany which copied from Russia. No other army at that time were developing sloped glacial armour. Yes, Germany copied from Russia, but true to German ideal, they improved on it, and came out with the V, VI and VII. And why is German WWII armour design still a standard? Oh, its because it is lame...

Almost correct. Romania did develop sloped armor too, they had a pioneering funny tank destroyer called the Marshall, looked like a tortoise, extremely sloped; was improved later by the Germans.

I have reas a story that 4 Tiger IIs held an entire front stretching 25kms when the Soviets were closing up Berlin. While in the west it took 75 direct shots to destroy a Tiger II that was disable due to a brken track (the shots were fired by M24s). Don't forget that the Germans has neither the time not the resources of the Allies to develop their weapons as they wished.

Lee tanks fought against Panthers in France, Italy, and even in Hungary (Russian service) so we can compare them, especialy it had been deigned simultaneously. Of course, germans has a "little" experience in this tank building stuff. :)
