The Ca8 seems to have better quality where as the c9 seems to be a bit washed out and not as sharp. Love the train station, the look on your face was as if to say oh god why am I doing this jajaja

thx for the comparison. I didn't seem to notice any REAL difference. Only thing I noticed was the the word "HATO BUS" seemed more readable, hence clearer on CA9 thus overall the CA9 must be clearer, although looking at the footage, i didn't see much difference. Would be nice to do so looow light footage say a restaurant, birthday party, filming the chinese acrobats.....

in my eyes, the ca8 looks better than the ca9. picture seems sharper and more focused. the ca9 seems a bit pale. unless thats the true color in real life. i would've wanted to see the difference in still shots though.

but u must consider in the night....

ca9 will beat up ca8 for sure in the low light situation....

i want this so bad but i can't find it anywhere in america, i have found it in a walmart about 80 miles away but its in bright yellow, which is not advertised anywhere, it is in fact the ca9 just in yellow which is weird i haven't seen it anywhere in that color i want black

I have a SDHC Patriot Class 6, 32GB, and it works great.

nice video, CA9 is better choice, not worth upgrading though, little more clarity less noise!

CA8 and CA9 have both (unfortunately) a CMOS captor.

Mine old CA65 has a CCD captor.

HELP!! I have a xacti VPC-CA9 and Corel VideoStudio x2 (free trial version) will not recognize the files this camera puts out. Anyone know what editing software will import & edit files from this camera?

Hey there, I'm sorry, I know this probably isn't much help, but I use VideoStudio X2 (full version) and have no problems with it. Perhaps it is a limitation with the trial version?

That was my thoughts when it didn't work. Maybe the trial doesn't have the ability to import h264 mpg4 files. Not much of a trial version if people want to see how and if it will work with their HD camcorders...8/

Nice comparison, in some shots it looks like the CA9 i more soft than the CA8. I should do a similar thingy between my CA6 and my new CA9.

The CA9 is better. What the CA8 has better is it's more saturated. You can always boost saturation on the CA9 in post production. Otherwise you get excellent stills (9mp) on the CA9, it's in 720p HD without upscaling, and it's sort of future proof.

I'd say it's better the CA9, even if it seems to have a little bit too bright image...but seems to have better definition.

I have to say, I was really surprised at how well the CA8 compares to the CA9. For me, the only difference really is the fullscreen on the CA9, which I do really want, but the CA8 I think actually shoots with much better color and light - it's a great camera, and should now be going cheap.

Yeah i agree...better color and better light for the CA8...CA9 is too bright.

Yet i think the definition it's a little bit better as definition of the image.

Anyway i think i'd pick CA8 too.

That's a really tough call. First up, these are capable hybrid cameras, but if photography is your main thing, you are better looking for a photo camera that takes video, like the Exilim for a compact camera, or an SLR for something good. As a video camera, the Sanyos are a step above the cheap obscure brand cameras, but definitely a step below the Canons, Sonys and Panasonics for quality. I think that the Sanyo shines as a convenient video camera for the internet

That is to say, the Sanyos are among the cheapest brand cameras, but the quality isn't anywhere near that of the other brands. But for something like YouTube, or other internet video sharing, the video quality is good enough, and the package overall makes these good value fun cameras. If you really want something for quality, look at the Canon HF20 (which costs more than twice as much) but for primary use on YouTube, I think that the Xactis are the best.

Sanyo cams are awesome for people who need a tiny/convinient/low price camcorder for youtube or quick clips to record with friends and show on TV/YouTube.

Good question - both cameras are rated the same (4 Lux) for light sensitivity (probably due to having the same lenses and so on), but the last clip on the video is shot in twighlight and the CA9 does look a bit better. But basically, I think there isn't a lot of change on that.

I know practically nothing about video cameras. I uploaded 1 video of my niece I shot in the house with some low light you can watch. It's not much of a video and it's my first one with factory settings. This is my first video camera VPC-CA9

I will say that sound wise CA9 is better and the video is a little better than the CA8.

I will say if you have the money and you want better sound and videos I would go with the CA9 , Now I need to get the money to get one myself , plus i've never had a Xacti I wish to get one now that I know what you use for your vlogs.

They do seem to have upgraded the mic but I'm not sure that is necessarily a good thing. I've found using the Xacti where there are cicadas, or beside a waterfall, it is impossible to hear the people talking in front of the camera, and there is no external mic input so it worries me a bit. I use the Xacti for most of my vlogs, but I use a Canon HF10 for real high quality video so that is worth looking at too.
