A country where unparalleled delicious affordable food is "the only heritage we got" sounds awesome to me. Don't have to waste days touring boring monuments and museums, don't have to listen to pretentious twats bragging about wars they won and things they created. Just feast on the deliciousness all day and then you still get to claim that you were experienciing the "culture." Singapore sounds great to me.
YUM!! I SWEAR I WANNA GO TO SINGAPORE, MALAYSIA, INDONESIA, THAILAND, VIETNAM, HONG KONG!..BASICALLY JUST ALL OF SOUTHEAST ASIA. GOOD FOOD, GOOD PEOPLE, GOOD WEATHER. MAN I MISS THOSE YEARS WHEN I LIVED IN JAKARTA AND KUALA LUMPUR (CAPITALS OF INDONESIA AND MALAYSIA, RESPECTIVELY). IVE BEEN LIVING IN NY SINCE 1998. AND IM SICK OF THE FRIGID COLD, DEPRESSION, POLLUTION AND CONGESTION, RUDE PEOPLE, AND MY WIFE THE TRAMP.
I SWEAR TO GOD, I WANNA TRAVEL THE WORLD. AND I MEAN EACH AND EVERY SINGLE COUNTRY IN THE WORLD. UGH CANT WAIT!! CANT BE BORN IN ONE PLACE, RAISED IN ONE PLACE, AND DIE IN ONE PLACE..NO WAY! THERES A WHOLE WORLD OUT THERE!
if you reall know street food (hawker food) you would know malaysia is much better just westerns go to singapoe not so much malaysia. as for chicken rice that maxwell road stand i have been thee many times but the rice chilli is good the chicken is not so good like old hard chicken. best chicken rice is in kl pj state besides the epf building. inmaxwqell they have really good haianese curry rice and rice porridge
Poor, poor Singapore... cobbled together from a dozen different cultures from different parts of the world, no less than FOUR official languages... and yet, no civil wars nor any major struggles between different ethnicities, certainly a history to envy.
i dunno guys, HK food is very tasty within its own tradition, but Singapore is undeniably diversified. whose to say which is better? I think its all damn tasty.
@mintico the problem i see is that today has a local with him all the time, i mean all the signs under the dishes in the food markets are all asian, if you went to singapore alone and didnt know anyone and couldnt read mandarin or whatever, you would be frigin lost, and the food sellers would soon find you pretty annoying when you start asking what is this 20 times for every dish you dont know what it is.
@beswick1111 Singapore's lingua franca is English, although the most common way of speaking is Singlish slang. Any actually Singaporean hawker will understand English (though its a bit harder for some of the elderly). While quite a few of the Chinese-Singaporean stalls employ front line staff and side cooks from China, any Singaporean staff or the owner should be able to guide u, let alone other customers. Additionally, the actual signs whether a Chinese, Malay or Indian style stall has English.
@beswick1111 Have you ever been to Singapore mate? Cos if you have then you should know that all the signs are in English and that everyone speaks English too and that you wouldn't be lost. You'd probably get up to 10 Singaporeans coming up to you to tell you how you should eat a certain dish. Yes, we're that passionate.
@beswick1111 If there is one place in Asia where everybody speaks English, it is Singapore... and all the food stalls have multi-lingual sign boards..i.e. madarin/malay//tamil on top, english on the bottom...u would have to be pretty dumb to get lost in Singapore

@YoungKoolness17 I didn't, in fact, I knew you were from the UAE. I just thought this example is generic and sufficiently explains my point.

but....why is that minced garlic green-blue in colour? its just the camera lights right?
yihanglee 6 months ago
@yihanglee usually the chinese make a condiment of minced garlic with ginger and green onions.. so it may be the green from green onions
