  • The first live band that I ever saw in 1977. I had only really heard a couple of their tracks previously previous to seeing them. Blinded by the Light was a hit at the time. They opened with 'Waiter there's a yawn in my ear' from the roaring silence. I've never since been to a concert that had such a profound impact on me. It absolutely blew me away. A very, very underrated band.

  • much better then bruce. this one has feeling.

  • wow, first time I ever heard this and it completely blew me away. Legendary band!!

  • My favorite album of theirs is The Good Earth. The album came with an application for a deed of one square foot of land on top of a mountain. It's a little hard to find the cd.

  • super ,hot and the best musik-art of the gitarre and perkussion

  • Cant believe its Chris Slade (ACDC) on drums!!! WITH HAIR!!! Google the band and you will see all the info you want including @taorob3 The lead singers name

  • @allanpope1971 Well, what hair he had left.

  • MMEB and Pink Floyd is all I need! Nightingales & Bombers is a fantastic album. Buy the LP! I mean.. download it! :-D

  • Don't blame Manfred Springsteen wrote it, in fact Manfred covered THREE Springsteen tunes on the roaring silence.

  • Litt god natt musikk har ingen vondt av.

  • Can anyone tell me the name of the lead singer? Thanks

  • @taorob3 Chris Thompson

  • Saw this lot at Reading festival 76 in the pouring rain . Still brilliant . My fave is gimme the good earth , Nightingales and bombers gets honourable mention.

  • Bruce>Manfred

  • From my past and one of the best songs songs today

  • Isn't this performance not one of the greatest rock recording ever?

I'd love a high quality version.

  • yeah.. not studio... but what a great song!!! .. Always room to improve on Bruce!!.. Another example!!! .. Rock on Manfred Mann!!!.. ;)

  • Manford mann did for this song what Hendrix did for All along the watchtower.

  • Mit 16 ab in die Drogendisco und MM`s Earthband hör`n, lange her...

  • I think i was 13 the last time I saw this, and it still put me in a trance during the lead part..It's like sonic rapture. Thank you for posting.

  • does anyone here like cheep trick? i was just asking.

  • If anything, with all the bickering about whose version is the best, it's safe to say that MMEB:

    1. Had a real good ear for great songs, even when they were buried in murky production and sometimes with a few bad lines and arrangements.

    2. Made these songs their own by not copying records, but writing their own songs around their covers.

  • @Izdigger5 i just wanted to hear the studio version, that's all. am i asking for too much?

  • I might be a generation late...but i grew up listening to classic rock...and the bs JB and katy perry auto tuned shit has ruined the best music era ever!

  • yeah sad to say what talentless music gets played over and over again and again and how everyone just eats it up like candy

  • Ja,das war noch die ECHTE Earth-Band.Super

  • Wish the record industry would wake their stupid asses up. They would never play a song on the radio nowadays that goes for 6:31 but instead were stuck with little faggot cookie cutter music that all sounds the same. Once the little faggot burns out, hes replaced with another little faggot. on and on it goes, and it fuckin blows!

  • @Spicypapayas thumbs up to that !

  • @Spicypapayas Very true... and the irony of it all is that now the record companies are looking at each other saying " what are we going to do, people are not buying music anymore... what's going on? "..... Well, look around you !! Keep producing "downloading" artists, and that's what you get !... Produce and market "album" artists, and people will start buying whole albums again... and those albums will keep selling for a long long time... not just NOW.

  • @tomorrowneverknows76 I assume you've never heard of The Flower Kings, Porcupine Tree, The A-sides, Secret Machines, Eskimo Joe, My Morning Jacket, Mogwai, Riverside, The Frost, Thought Chamber, Black Mountain should I go on? There is a TON of quality music out there. You have access to the internet. Open up a Pandora account, type in anyone of these bands, get Realplayer to grab the songs, and there you go.

Pop has ALWAYS been around - Herman's Hermits to Donnie and Marie to Justin whoever..

  • @Spicypapayas If someone would just invent a way to move digital copies of songs we like onto little hand held devices that we can take around with us, thousands at a time, and an easy way in the comfort of our homes to find good music. And if only the market could make these devices cheaper and cheaper and cheaper.

But alas all we have is radio.

  • @Spicypapayas I actually heard this song for the first time today on the radio, 97.7 The River, it was for the "Live at 5" feature.

  • really great

  • "try some of this it'll show you where you're at or at least it'll help you to feel it" - now that's what i call viral marketing :)

  • Exquisite guitar, love the keyboard!

    garyhyink(dot)com

  • i like both versions of blinded by the light but bruce's version of this song is way better. i actually don't like this version, especially the chorus

  • I like this so much better than the original.

  • Reminds me of going to Old Pinniwa those were some crazy days...lmao

  • Saw them twice backing heep! great shows

  • Das ist der Hammer, na das waren noch Zeiten^^

  • Супер!!!!!Юность моя ,где ты....

  • can't get over all the great music and videos i've found on youtube never heard this song before.

  • They give the song an almost ominous, dark feeling of yearning that is most appealing. Just gorgeous.

  • @QueenCeleste2 ..Hi.. EXACTLY my sentiments. I can close my eyes to this and it paints a vivid picture of what is taking place within the lyrical and melody content of the song.

  • @SwitchFoot2007 Hi--just listened to Bruce Springsteen's 1973 live version--aside from the lyrics it a completely different song! Just remarkable how Manfred Mann's Earth Band took a good song and made it magical.

  • what a solooooooooooooooo....respect

  • chris thompson silky voice on top of great music

  • They put even more spirit in this song than Springsteen does and live they are even better than in studio. I'm exited.

  • I'm as big a Springsteen fan as you'll find, this is great. I love the original, but these guys take it somewhere else. I'm not saying one version is better than the other it depends on your taste. I love the guitars in this

  • this song is a personal story that bruce experienced.. i take springsteens over this disco-type crap any day

  • @JJSHIZZ You suck.

  • @chechnya bruce's is so much more sincere and meaningful..

you suck along with manfred mann. peace

  • Wonderful! Thanks for sharing.

  • Still the best song they ever did!!!

  • Dios es sagrado

  • This is the version I first heard. I heard Springsteen's version and in my opinion it is bland compared to this. This definitely has a more rock edge to it, which is why I dig this version. I know the Boss wrote this tune, but I wouldn't have paid attention to it if it wasn't for Manfred Mann's version. Great tune.

  • @Zrock0076 i agree

  • Does this band only do bad covers of other artist's songs? I cant understand why they are even acknowledged.

  • @TheWeaponsman ... You're NOT the first person to make this comment and you didn't even do that good of a job covering other people who made this same comment before you. YOU should get no acknowledgement! ;-)

  • @pekayish I don't care if i'm not the first one to make this comment. I don't need acknowledgement and i don't pretend that i do.

  • manfred Mann you are my inspiration for piano and keyboards you are awesome im 16 and i love your music

  • FUCK THE BOSS, I'M DOWN FOR THE MANN.

  • The off focus and offbeat colour make it psychedelic is that deliberate?

    Springsteen?

  • nothing tops the original, but this is great

  • Great song !! I just wish MMEB would sing the last verse to the song.

    Peace

  • I once read that this song was recorded twice in the studio with different lead singers. I assume i've only heard the second guy-- this guy.

  • 47 times live and still fucking amazing! Hope all is wekk with MMEB.

  • i heard this on the radio when i was 19. good stuff

  • One hell a version this one is better than the original!

  • Chris likes to play a small bar in Costa Mesa once or twice a year and I was fortunate to have seen him live and in person not 3 feet from the air I was breathing.

  • Killer. Always was. always will be. Piss on bruce.

  • This is a rare exception to the rule "you can't beat the originals".

  • What A Great Song!!!!!!!

  • Happy Birthday, Manfred. I know, I'm a day late, by that's because I was celebrating MY birthday yesterday, as well.

    LOL

  • Prom night 1977.........at the lake after....need I say more..

  • класс!!!

  • tabbs for this song anyone ... :O

  • played this 1000's of times since '75 or so .love it!

  • Great song! Thanks!

  • Such an underated band... Nightingales & Bombers - Solar Fire - & The Roaring Silence were just fantastic albums... In my opinion the best Manfred Mann albums!

  • This version sings the sole and uncertain mist of youth. Bruce wrote it like he was only an observer. Still - both are geniuses. I lived the Manfred Mann version

  • Comment removed

  • Stop arguing kids. Springsteen is a genuis when it comes to writing music. This band was very underated when it comes to playing their instruments. This is what classic rock is all about. Not many bands at that time could keep up with them at the ending of this song.

  • @mlarison85 Yep, starting at about 4:45. This was a very talented band and they "owned" this song. Springsteen is also a very talented performer and writer, but this song was MMEB's time to shine.

  • they have covered every bruce springsteen song known to mankind.i dont even like their versions very much

  • MMEB improves on the originals every time they cover somebody.

They are even better live than in the studio.

  • @Supertramp1977 dude i just wanna here the studio version, now will you tell me why, when i click on the "studio version" it brought me to a page where there is not one studio version to be had? it's just youtube fucking with me again huh?

  • @Supertramp1977 I agree. This is almost as good as the music I'm thinking of when I see your youtube username.

  • @Supertramp1977 This is an amazing cover don't get me wrong, but better than Bruce's live version? I have to disagree.

  • @chrisxmakk Springsteen? LMFAO.

  • This versions makes me fall to sleep, it´s terrible. Blinded By The Light is much better.....no where near as good as the original though IMO.

  • Why was this guy so obsessed with covering Springsteen songs?

  • i'm going to go to a concert of them on august 21st.

  • This blows springberg out of the water by far.

  • ALSO. Bruce did not write NOT ONE song for MANN. Mann had to ask for permission to use The Boss's lyrics. Get it straight. One is a Legend...Bruce. the other (Mann) just copies and tries to put some BS twist on it. Good for Mann, he made millions using someone elses work. Whats Mann's big hit song NOT using Springsteen's lyrics???????????????

  • @kobe9985 Doo Wah Diddy

  • @straightupwv Same to U, DOO WAH DIDDY. Mann sucks Bruce's balls and begs to use THE BOSS'S lyrics to have a song in the first place.

  • @straightupwv thats right! Here she comes just a walkin down the street

  • Manfred Mann made it cool to play organ/piano in hard rock songs.

  • not bad as to me

  • very thanks

  • think the guitarist is Dave Flett

  • The MMEB versions of the 3 Bruce tracks off Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J. (being; 'For You', 'Spirit(s) In The Night and 'Blinded By The Light) are all great, don't get me wrong, but they weren't written for MMEB. I'm a huge Springsteen fan, but I also love the covers, just wanted to clarify, I've seen a lot of comments saying Bruce wrote the songs for Manfred Mann's Earth Band... this isn't accurate, they were simply covers.

  • Who's the man on lead ?

  • Powerfull solo!

  • this version is hundreds of times better than springsteen's of course

  • @lazlocarreidas Far from original though. Only one Boss. Just one more copy he owes to Bruce. Also copied Blinded by the light from Bruce. Mann should have tried to write his own lyrics for once in his life.

  • bands twisting other bands songs are what has made rock roll on so long...brings a new perspective to a vision,if you will...

  • Holy Shit this is insane!!!

My favorite song when I was 11... never even knew who did it until Google and YouTube came along... Thank You!!!!

    (PS. I mean THIS version!!)

  • ALWAYS LOVED THIS SONG:)))))))!!!!!

  • shite

  • the Earth Band took this song to another level. Just like SRV did with 'Voodoo Child'.

  • I like Bruce as much as the next guy but I think even Bruce himself would tell you this is well done.

  • @5595Maddog you'd probably be surprised how many songs these guys are actually responsible for.........been around a LOOONG time.

  • Another Bruce cover. HIt #40 in the US (Billboard). How'd it do in the UK? God bless!

  • this kicks springsteen square in the balls

  • @jferkfjkj got that right

  • Manfred Mann or Springstein? I don't know...this was pretty good.

  • Sorry but this blows Bruces version into the fuckin dirt

  • @mopardude6969 I wonder how Springsteen, who wrote this, and over 300 other songs, ended up worth nearly half a billion dollars, and Manfred Mann, a cover band, ended up broke?

  • @CPSJSMSUUMUGA because all they were was a good cover band. bruce has the creative genius flowing thru him.

  • @CPSJSMSUUMUGA

You should learn the difference between a "cover" and a complete new arranged piece of music like this. MMEB are still touring successfully over Europe. Catch a gig if you have the chance. You won't regret it!

  • @CPSJSMSUUMUGA Because Springsteen WROTE the song, and Mann covered it.

  • @CPSJSMSUUMUGA Springsteen wrote this....

  • I'm so disappointed that manfred man covers bruce. no one beats bruce. no one.

  • @dykstrark manfred mann kicks springsteen's ass, i mean in the original as in all of his songs he can't sing to the beat AT ALL and it ruins the music. Here that is not the case the music and voice flow together.

  • @jferkfjkj what rubbish. have you ever seen springsteen perform live ?? and anyway kudos to somebody writes their own music and lyrics and has brought out new albums for thirty seven years.this is a good cover but nothing like the real thing.

  • @holitipu i don't need to listen to springsteen when i have this version to listen to

  • fuera de serie!!!!

  • delusional...

TouchingYou has graced stages all over this country with Haunted Pussy and has forgotten more about music than you'll ever know, IDIOT.

I've heard you are a real lowlife always trying to stir up shit

  • springsteens is way better then this.

  • i saw them live....way back, had a GREAT time, they were Super!!!!

  • springsteens versions MUCH better

  • @ziggystardust3113

    in a pig's eye

  • Recherches, innovations, créations et rêves...Les groupes rock progressifs des années soixantes-dix étaient les meilleurs. Yes !!!

    A french fan friend...

  • I'm so glad Manfred Mann redid all of Bruce's crap and made them into incredible songs!

  • @crystalsky84 i agree they just have a better sound for his songs glad he let them cover them

  • @crystalsky84 and where are they are now? playing golf and tending their gardens, whereas bruce ...

  • @holitipu...Oh, yeah? Well there's something to be said about playing golf and tending gardens! Whereas bruce is washed up and doesn't even have those things! So there!

  • @holitipu MMEB still touring!

  • @holitipu MMEB still touring!

  • @crystalsky84

    go to hell

  • @ligerhunter5223...Bruce Sucks! Bruce Sucks! Bruce Sucks! Manfred Mann does his songs way better than that little peon ever could! Sorry if the truth hurts!

  • @crystalsky84

Okay, obviously no one has ever told you that music is subjective, but considering how much more popular Bruce is compared to Manfred Mann, I'd say that there are more people who agree with me than with you. Calling him a peon is just flat out FUNNY.

  • @ligerhunter5223 Ok so if music is subjective, why did YOU tell ME to go to hell? Pretty harsh just for stating my opinion~don't you think? Okay, obviously no one has ever told you not to be a DICK! No more of your messages will be read by me so kiss my ass! Ahhhhh..........................I love getting the last word!

  • одна из лучших

  • @crystalsky84 But what songs would Manfred Mann sing without "that little peon"?? MMEB might be a great cover band but Bruce with his songwriting skills is in a whole other league.

  • @crystalsky84 Hmm, let me see - Bruce WROTE the lyrics, AND the MUSIC ... who's the genius, genius? I don't recall reading Manfred Man selected to either the Rock & Roll or Songwriter's Hall of Fame... Wouldn't you think creating both the music and lyrics trumps rearranging a song?? Mental midget...

  • @nkkcboss You're absolutely right on the points that you make. He just totally sucks at singing his own songs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • OK rydermoore99 Jimi Hendrix covered several Bob Dylan songs and bloomed them into his own style. Do you think Jimi had no talent?

  • DAVE FLETT ON GUITAR!!!!

  • @werbeboard

    Fucking OFF THE HOOK!!

  • I usually don't like live versions versus studio, but this version rocks!

  • man i wish someone would put a better quality version of this footage on youtube. this kicks ass!!! Love their version of this song!!! Bruce even said himself it was better than his version

  • rydermoore99 they made these songs better then springsteen ever could... you're just hating and the audio on this is horrid.

saying these guys got no talent is bullshit... these cats had plenty of talent... you ain't no musician and don't know what you're commenting about...

  • TouchingYou has graced stages all over this country with Haunted Pussy and has forgotten more about music than you'll ever know, IDIOT.

I've heard you are a real lowlife always trying to stir up shit.

  • itt childish partisans thumbs-down comments they disagree with

  • In this Time I was 16 Years old ! I love MMEB !!!

  • you got that right... I was 12 and was trying my first cigs - filterless... lol

  • it's like a true story, this really happened to me

  • ЗАЕБИСЬ!!!!

  • ЗАЕБИСЬ!!!!!!

  • This sounds so excellent, these guy's cooked ,I probably even saw this if it was on MNS or DKRC ?

  • its a true power my brothers!

  • I've had the Roaring Silence album for years, its great. It takes me back to those mid 70s. The lyrics were whacked, for sure, but take it for what it was. I wish there was a video of Starbird, the flip side of Blinded...

  • definitely needs the sax of Springstreet's version.

  • much prefer this version - love the electric guitar

  • Comment removed

  • this song is awesome!! i have tried to search up the tabs for this sng, but can't find them. anyone know where?

  • sorry wrong button

  • I was there!!!

    Awesome doesnt do them justice!

It was an incredible experience I will treasure forever...

  • Its almost like Bruce wrote it just for them

  • Click MY username for Really good iq Test

  • Awesome arrangement of a Bruce Springsteen song. Thank you Manfred Mann's Earth Band for making this one of the most memorable songs ever!

  • This song is ockult .I think its about demons so thats true.Jesus help the band and so so .

  • This version... he sings it just right, seems to perfectly match the story he is telling.
