If you use 64 bit, overclock your processor, and get 2 9800's you will do alright.

There isn't much that can handle GTA 4 on all high, but with COD4 and prototype you should be fine

I can think of 2 games Crysis at very high details full AA and AF on 22+ inch LCD or FarCry 2...Those games are really power hungry and i don't think the 9th series from nvidia will "dominate" them,maybe the series after that or the HD 4000 series which should come out in Q2 this year if no delays happen.HD 4870 should be in theory as good as two HD 3870 x2 in Crossfire.

remember the middle pci slot is for the 3rd graphics card.

normal sli card have only one

meaning you can sli two alpha dogs 8800 gt extremes 512mb with no problem but you can't add a third card as these card are not expandable to 3xsli.

I just bought a 780i XFX motherboard 2 nights ago, it will run 2 cards in SLI. You can run 3 video cards if you want to, but the cards must be the same type and they should be by the same manufacturer.

I would say u better of with a first choice. I did some research as far as physics card. And there not too many,I would say only few, games that support physics, so go for 3 8800XXX and get your self a biger LCS so u get stoned by performance.. good luck. (its all about money...)

Yeah, I would say to be future proof you should probably go with the 3 800's. The only thing I would worry about is compatibility with certain games, but that's mainly for me since I really only play some older games like BF2, 2142 (which isn't old I guess lol), etc etc.

But the 780i fully supports the Yorkfield and Penryn so it's better.

Also including PCIe 2.0, the G92 chipsets will be able to run great, run 16x/4x/4x bandwith.

The 680i is not capable to tri sli yet. It maybe in the future, but it will probally will not happen as Nvidia will release the 790i chipset with 3 X16 pci-e 2.0 slots. the 780i only has two 16X pci-e 2.0 slots and the middle slot being a 16X pci-e 1.0. Hence why tri sli is also not supported with 8800GT's

Of course you can test it out.

You'll get full performance out of it, but that's it. You get the performance it was meatn to have, but even the PCIe slots will bottleneck one another due to bandwith.

The new 8800GTS G92 has support for PCIe 2.0 so that's good.
