  • Too bad people don't listen to this guy. Many don't even know who he is.

Bacevich's last comment on religious terrorism is similar to Wesley Clark's comment on the never-ending war(s) in the Middle East and our military occupation: When all you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a hammer.

  • He looks like Kurt Russell.

  • I DISAGREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • troll.

  • because there is a lot of money to be made in war. re: the military-industrial complex.

boeing, raytheon, haliburton et al. are making off like bandits, and are paying politicians to keep the war machine rolling.

  • The US won't be the first empire to founder in those mountains, and I dare say it won't be the last.

  • Yes, an international police operation is better.

  • The 9/11 hijackers were not motivated to do what they did merely because they were "religious fanatics", thats who they were, not why they did what they did, one only has to note the day on which lead hijacker Atta wrote his will, according to Lawrence wrights "the looming tower" he wrote it in his Hamburg apartment on the day of the Qana massacre carried out by the Israeli "defense" force, so I think it's incumbent on the US to oppose this types of military assaults on Gaza

    Good video, thanks.

  • Agreed that we need to start seeing the terrorists as human beings if we want real resolution. We need to confront their motivations and influences.

Spraying your apartment with raid everyday to kill invading ants is both expensive and detrimental to your health. Instead, just clean up your crumbs after you eat.

As for Gaza and Israel, the U.S. swung too far to one side in the last 9 years. Its role was a moderator, and it can't serve that role anymore. Another country needs to step in.

  • 9/11 was a Pentagon scenario played out

    see "northwoods"

But forget all that. Trying to do anything seems like attempting to stop a tiger by grabbing it's tail, instead of blocking it's path

We better START WORRYING ABOUT THE NEXT FLASE FLAG ATTACK ON US

All indications promise that the Pentagon will use us & our allies as a pretext to war again. Blame the same innocent civilizations again.. or pick some NEW ones to accuse

The NEXT false flag attack will be an "untracable" bioweapon

  • because war is a quick and easy way to make a lot of money fast for a certain sector of the population.

  • robert greenwald would clean obamas ass with his tongue if he were given the chance

  • all of these videos are in direct contrast to obama's policy on afghanistan.

  • greenwald would support any of obamas policies regardless of what he believed in. he is just an idealogue. he supported obama so strongly during his campaign that he is highly invested in him. so any new stance that obama takes, greenwald will support.

  • "greenwald would support any of obamas policies regardless of what he believed in. he is just an idealogue."

Which explains perfectly why Greenwald and his foundation are challenging President Obama on his policy on Afghanistan in this very video, right dsgl0p?

  • just keep burning the poppy fields down this will keep them busy and broke

drop rice and sugar for the locals

silly for all these people to die

  • Why is everybody just figuring this all out now? Where was all this wisdom when George W. Bush was planting the seeds of our destruction?

  • He had a shovel in one hand and a gun in the other.

  • Very well said...

  • Can people upload news/C-Span clips onto Youtube without permission?

  • They do it all the time. There is something called "fair use." If you use a piece of news video and repackage it or provide new context for it yourself, you make it into something else. And you have to give credit to the original source.

  • Thanks! Great to know.

  • i like what he says, why would anybody have a problem with it?

sounds practical, logical and more effective.

  • Because it doesn't make enough profits for those that own the war machine. Check out "War Is A Racket" by Smedley Butler, He was commander of the Marines, a CMH winner and during the 1930's he prevented a coup in this country.

  • I was speaking to wayindie's comments.

  • commandant not commander

  • slight of hand. misdirection.

  • loseer.

  • Starting at (1:50), the Colonel suggests we treat this as a police action against criminal elements who appeal to religious sentiments.

This sounds like an apt description of American neo-conservativism. What made neo-conservativism collapse here was economic collapse. We should look at inducing economic collapse of the Taliban first by systematically destroying their poppy fields. This can be waged entirely from the air without use of ground troops.

  • Those are american poppy fields made in afghanistan and flown into the US with AIG cargo planes. We can't loose our drug farm so pump more money into AIG.

  • Poppy production has increased by 93%, this gives cash flow to the Taliban. What scary is the US government turns a blind eye, and I suspect they are shipping the stuff into states by the plane load. Oliver North (guns for drugs) is a precedent for how the US government uses drugs to fund black ops.

  • and Olie North got off scot free even though he was in charge of selling drugs and buying guns for the contras in Nicaragua and Iran. Now both patches of the earth and torn by war, and no one was prosecuted for it. I wouldn't be surprised if it were to happen again.

  • Big Poppy crops means endless war, its ridiculous what's going on.

  • "We should look at inducing economic collapse of the Taliban first by systematically destroying their poppy fields."

Better answer: end the American drug war and repeal the prohibition.

  • darion, boots, eyesonly, Plebian ..

.. Great comments .. I learned something here .. drug wars make republicans rich 'cuz they're the only ones who can get away with dealing it, since they're above the law .. think of gang turf and heroin being the profitable commodity .. none of the republicans want to change a good thing .. it is too profitable for them.

Building a strong hard-working society is the biggest enemy of the opiate trade .. a trade that thrives with absence of opportunity.

  • heroin production had been at a virtual standstill coming out of afghanistan because the taliban destroyed most of the crop (most of the dope coming in was from mexico). after the US came in it rose to 95% of the heroin supply. so good observation

  • That's wrong. Don't believe me. Check out Seymour Hersh and the UN's counternarcotics group's figures on annual poppy yields in Afghanistan. New records every year until 2008.
