@BraydonSzafranski i pick with the elbow joint. i know it's not recommended, but i've spent my first year of playing with my elbow joint. after a year's worth of brutal tremolo picking i've gotten so used to it, i can't hope to play with my wrist now without essentially re-learning guitar all together.
@nmtp666 - The video series is called "Elf Riffs", named after the legendary progressive / fusion / hard rock trio, Magic Elf. Carl Roa is the guitar player in that band, original member. Awesome band! Kind of like Rush meets Holdsworth meets Led Zep meets the Dregs meets Yngwie meets Liquid Tension Expermnt etc. Hard to describe, but there are audio samples at their site, magicelf.com. Glad to see Carl out doing these vids, very cool.
@KZ4USA It's not about the number of notes ... but how the music make you feel. Good music always reaches you emotionally. You can speak with a few notes or many ... different feelings. Peace. - Carl Roa
@BigShoeMusic Dude, you are a truly immense player. Hadn't heard of you before, but I am VERY impressed by your musicianship both in your playing and attitude.
Carl is the best! His playing is very inspiring! Thanks to Guitar World for this awesome lesson column. It's my favorite from the Guitar World. I always get something positive out of Elf Riffs!
I love shredding but the tone and stuff bored me......took something from this none the less hence the comment
he's either got really small hands or the frets are huge.. again....no tabs, not many people have the initiative to find the scales or whatever on here. Fire the video editor or whos running this youtube they can be doing such a better job.
This is the only shredder I actually like on Guitar World... He is actually interesting and doesn't just do the mindles speed crap like everyone else. He has TASTE
awesome Carl! great to see you playing seven string guitars ...you need a Suhr seven string....and i see API...apogee..and Daking?...eventide...are you running through the Fortin?
Lol the one that is "the hardest lick" is the eisiest one!

Shredding goes nowhere. Getting to be to much shredding in music today and not
enough good playing of quality.
