I remember during my adolescent years, people used to tell me that I looked just like Ralph. It was 1984. It was one of the best times in my life!! I cannot tell you about all the girls that were chasing me.Thanks for letting me borrow just a smidgen of your thunder, Mr. Tresvant. NE forever!!
In a lot of their earlier live TV performances, the group lip-synched. However, they aren't lip-synching here---well, at least Ralph isn't. The other four are lip-synching the background vocals. Regardless, still a hot performance.
@IceManLikeGervin I used to wonder about that myself...seems like a performance by them or atleast an appearance on The Cosby Show would have been nice since both Cosby and New Edition were major influences during the 1980's.
great performance and i found out why ralph didnt have good teeth its because his mom said that he had a bad habit of gritting his teeth even in his sleep
Jesus, this is the first time I seen this. O_O I was only 7 or 8 back then and Apollo used to come on late at night and it was past my bedtime, LOL. Anyways great song.
You know, New Edition may be one of the only singing groups where almost every member has had their own sucessful solo career. :) Usually in singing groups, only the lead singer has a sucessful solo career, (Diana Ross- The Supremes) and in vary rare instances, the backup singer gets a sucessful solo career as well.(Kelly Rowland from Destiny`s Child).
@pappyfrank Still do tours toghether, seen them in at the Fox in Detroit in 2007. Not doing albums after a try with Bad Boy flopped, but still do still so shows once in a while. Ralph was there, jsut not Bobby. No ones fault. Just days are done. Show was great!
Ralph, Johnny didn't join till the NE Heartbreak album in 88' I think, I was a fish in high school, lol.
I get emails from their website and it looks like ALL 6 will reunite this year...again! lol. Hope they come to Houston. Last saw them here minus B.Brown in 05'! Still have the 2 shirts I bought.
@NikitaFilatovFan3040 - the main lead singer has always been Ralph with his awesome falsetto voice. Johnny didn't become part of group until a year after Bobby Brown left when NE Heartbreak debuted.
Ralph always was a great singer but it must have been hard for Bobby and Ricky playing backup to him for all those years when they could sing as good as him.Ironic how everyone in the group was bigger than Ralph when they all went solo.
@72768487912002 well Rickey is not a bigger name Bill biv devoe may be bigger Ralph is well known and he went solo to late he was the last to drop a record
Ralph dropping his solo record last has nothingt to do with it fact is BBD's poison album was way better than Ralph's album. He did have sensitivity and stone cold gentleman but not much else.I think even Johnny's album was better fact is I love all the guys from N.E. but truth iseveryone in the group turned out more successful than their lead singer and its rare.
Well Ralph waited to late to go solo he should have done it in 86. The girls was all over him he waited to bobby brown dropped his second record goin 8x then decided to go solo in a time where that music was hot when Bobby did it it was new. Bell biv devoe barly sold more by the way. And his hit was also yo baby and do what I git to do. Ralph was the last and plust Bell biv devoe was getting explicit with lyrics Ralph kind of said with new edition sound on his album
@72768487912002 -Yeah, I remember that, but I think it had a lot to do with the fact that bbd brought a street edge to r&b that helped to usher in the hip hop era. And johnny was just super smooth vocalist. He had a audience even before join New edition. But some of Ralph's lack of success I think was due to the fact that he came out much later than the rest. I remember that album, and It was hot. Remember the song 'Do what I gotta do"? That was hot. But music changed at the time. Jodeci style.
& that change was dubbed as birth of the New Jack Swing, which in my opinion didn't fit very well with Ralph's style as a soloist. True, his debut release had several classics. My joint was "The Rhythm is Rated R" :)
@djw- Yeah, music did change on Ralph. I also think it had a lot to with Ralph coming out so late and also the fact that we all were used to hearing him sing all the time. But I think if his album had come out before bbd and Johnny's, he would have fared much better. His album was quite underrated. Yeah, his voice may have had something to do with it too. But people must remember, Ralph was the life of New Edition, even though others could sing better. Ralph just had that something special.
My dad taped this show when it first aired... We grew up hearing NE songs...But it wasn't until we watched it again in the 90s that we realized that was Ralph, Bobby, Johnny, and BBD...
Man, this is bringing back some memories. I can remember being in the living room with the sibs, tearing it up to this song, or just chillin' with friends listening to this. Man, this takes me back:)
buggs, you are bugging out, NE on their worst day sounds and look better than any of theese no and b, no jacks out here today! If you like Day 26, just admit it and don't come on a NE show, talking about todays tryers and putting them in the same sentence as legends! Some people just have to keep Katt Williams seat warm while he's going through!

They came back as "The Summit" w/Ralph and Johnny and Bobby but it ain't the same....UGH!
