  • white liberal guilt got obama elected ... as a black conservative libs feel the need to pity us ... hey you can take your pity and shove it up your ass.

  • OBAMA FTW

  • No country for grumpy old men

  • John McCain would make a better president than Barack Obama.

  • Of course McCain has voted against his party. They're wrong so often there isn't much else in terms of choice.

  • watta creep!

  • How come he can't let a thought go without looking down at what his speech writers gave him? Speak to the people, not to a piece of paper.

  • schmarcie,

I love smaller laid-back cities. The frenetic pace of big cities does not sit well with me.

Thanks for the for the info on where to visit.

  • Newssnoop,

My parents retired to a smaller laid back city and after my dad died she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Then she was emotionally, physically & financially exploited by her "friendly neighbor". It just goes to show that good and evil can happen any where. Thanks be to God, I was able to get my Mom away from them before it was too late. Now my 23yr old daughter, son, hubby & I take care of her 24/7 because we love her & don't want he to be put in a medicaid nursing home.

  • Sorry, just venting. LOL!

  • When this election process ends, in what has already become a process of epic proportion, my hope is we find common ground, to move this country in the right direction, regardless of political affiliation.

  • I concede.

  • Newssnoop,

"my hope is we find common ground, to move this country in the right direction, regardless of political affiliation"

Amen! I must confess that I have been embroiled in the political process. I pray God, forgive me.

I will be glad when it's all over with. The good news is--- I know that God is in control of the "big picture" and that we are here on earth, to learn how to live together in heaven--lest we ever forget.

May God bless everyone with his peace.

  • I don't know but I can tell you he was standing to the left of the stage w/the secret service all around him...he didn't seem to be doing anything except waiting for that song to end..lol.

  • McCain and Palin stumped in the towns of Cedarsburg and Sterling Heights yesterday, which have fewer minority citizens than were in attendance at the Republican National Convention this week. Is this a party that represents the true face of America?

  • What's the true face of America? My face is pretty true and McCain and Palin are connecting well with me *shrug*. Polls show that the race is tied right now, so it looks like McCain and Obama are both connecting very well with Americans...and Americans' faces.

  • Newssnoop

Keith Butler said a beautiful prayer at Freedom Hill on 9/5.

There are many minorities in Warren, Mt.Clemens, Roseville, St. Heights, St Clair Shores, Southfield, Farmington, Redford etc etc

'Minorities' tend to vote for Dems because they have been Led to believe that the Dem party are their advocates. However, entitlement programs do not encourage folks to be self relient. Welfare is a socialized trap that keeps folks in poverty.

Martin Luther King Jr was a Republican

  • schmarcie,

Am I to infer from your statement, that Democrats or minorities do not believe in self-reliance. Tell that to the taxpaying citizens, I being one, who had to bail out Bear Stearns, Freddie Mac, and Fannie Mae.

  • Not picking a fight, but historically, as you can see by the following stats, entitlement programs are not just a minority issue. Racial composition of welfare families, 1992--2002

    1992 1994 1996 1998 2000 2002

    Families

    Total 4,769,000 5,046,000 4,553,000 3,176,000 2,269,000 2,060,300

    Percent of total

    White 39 37 36 33 31 32

    African-American 37 36 37 39 39 38

    Hispanic (any race) 18 20 21 22 25 25

Source: U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Family Assistance. 2004

  • African-American 37 36 37 39 39 38

    Hispanic (any race) 18 20 21 22 25 25

    Hence Affirmative Action

  • What?????????????????????????

  • My reply was to Newssnoop on page 2.

  • Newssnoop

I was a single Mom who lived & worked within the Detroit city limits for 9 yrs. I paid a mortgage. I worked hard. I had zero credit cards & lived within my means. I accepted ACD for a brief period of time after my ex left. I saw folks taking advantage of the system. After my house was broken into 3x's. I sold my house & made $. I am angry over the mort crisis. I can assure you that I am not a part of the Problem! BTW, I know full well that white folks abuse SSI & Welfare.

  • schmarcie,

I applaud your discipline, and ability to work through what were obviously difficult periods in your life.

The blame goes in part, to Phil Gramm, who was instrumental in the deregulation of the oil, and real estate markets.

Im not a fan of big government, but sometimes government intervention is necessary, as in the case of the bail-outs I mentioned earlier, to prevent the downward spiral of our economy.

There is no doubt we need better accountability in welfare programs.

  • hmm what are u trying to say? Sterling Heights is part of the suburbs of Detroit..We got plenty of minority citizens more so than most cities. Remember that Obama has 90% support from the black community so don't go thinking mccain didn't send the memo to the minorities.

  • Not according to the census.

  • obviously you have never visited...ha ha ha!!

  • According to the 2000 census, the racial makeup of the city was 90.70% White, 1.30% African American, 0.21% Native American, 4.92% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.34% from other races, and 2.50% from two or more races. 1.34% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

  • Actually according to 2000 census Detroit has 81.6% Black, 12.3% White, 7.6% other..You must have been looking at the wrong place..when exactly have you been here? I live here..I am here right now, actually. I can take a picture if you need it. Anyone disagree?

  • The census I listed is for Sterling Heights, not Detroit.

  • You are correct Kelly, I have never visited.

As you probably already know, Sterling Heights was ranked as one of the safest cities in America to live in, relevant to its size.

I in no way tried to denigrate the city, or its citizens. In fact, I would love to visit the city, with my family, in the future.

There is concern that the growing rift, between minorities and the GOP, could lead to forms of disenfranchisement.

  • well, Ms. Brown, who spoke in Sterling Hgts hit on that issue, generally speaking, minorities vote Dem because they are told to by friends, family etc instead of doing their homework and deciding for themselves. Also, Dems tend to push social service programs of which are a benefit more so to minorities. yeah-I agree w/you. There is a rift. Personal aspiration should dictate your vote, no?

  • Newssnoop

There's not much to do in Sterling Heights---perhaps that's why it's so safe. LOL

If you ever have the chance to come to Metro Detroit make sure that you go to The Henry Ford Museum & Greenfield Village. If you enjoy history--- it is a must see. The DIA, Detroit Historical, African American, Chrysler Museums & Cranbrook Institute of Science are all good too!

BTW, I thought that Rev. Keith Butler's prayer was wonderful.

  • So true....government should stand on our side not in our way.

    Rock the vote ~ Nov 2008 ~ McCain~Palin

  • I was there as well. It was great but it did take a loooooong time to get out of the parking lot. I wonder if they were expecting that many people to be there.

  • Thank You for posting this!

  • This was great Rally, My only complaint was that it took 2 hours to get out of the parking lot when it was over...Go Mccain/Palin 08!!!

  • Hi Kelly,

A lot of good things happened while being stuck in the parking lot after the rally:

#1 My hubby & I were able to enjoy some quality time together... Hahaha!

#2 I thought the guy walking around the lot playing the trumpet was a riot!

#3 It was awesome to see how patient people were waiting all that time.

My hubby is going to call Freedon Hill on Monday & ask why there was a problem dispersing the traffic? He wants his 5 bucks back LOL!

  • That is funny!!! You saw the guy with the trumpet? We were clapping and cheering..that was great! have your hubby ask if they can mail the $5 'cuz of gas and all, you know. Luckily, I had like 5 bottles of water or we would have died. Ha Ha Ha

  • Kelly,

You're smart to have bottled water in your car. I'm not much of a girl scout am I? tee hee I guess it was a good thing that I didn't have anything to drink--- being as I would have had to walk all the way back, [I mean, we were back there] across that dusty, rough, parking lot to get to the restrooms, in my high heeled sandals. LOL! I would have had to held it! My feet were already killing me from standing so long. Hahaha!

  • lol..I was no girl scout either and had 3 kids in the car and an old lady..I just REALLY lucked out!!! I was too lazy to take them out after a boating trip..My laziness has saved me like that a few times.. ha ha ha ..heels? yeah you would have been screwed, we were in the back too. next time I go see him, I'm packing a cooler! luckily we had choked down Tubbys when we got there or I would have died. I bet you'll be wearing jogging shoes!! lol
