I own one of Nothern Dancer's great-grandson's...my horse's name is Regal Command =) He is a true champ in the jumper ring and puts his heart and soul into every stride <3 He stands 16.2hh...wish he was taller though lol

I just found this out but Secretariat's great grandchild (or great grandhorse, whatever its called) is Rags To Riches who is the first filly to ever win Belomont? And in Rags To Riches blood is Northern Dancer and Seattle Slew?

She is so beautiful and a GREAT racer. Go watch her in the belmont race if you havent yet. Its amazing and its history.

yes i knew that he's also in the pedigree of other famous modern racers like, curlin, rags to riches, sarty jones, funny cide, afleet alex, eight belles, harlem rocker & sky conqueror just to name a few, and oh look out for southern exchange the 2 yr old, he has the same movement as northern dancer and he has the same body shape/face shape the only difference is is colour, he's grey.. but im really expecting great things from him.

Northern Dancer was a great horse who got the best of a great crop of 3 year olds! Hill Rise, The Scoundrel, Roman Brother & Quadrangel were all very good horses.

Northern Dancer was one of the greatest horses of all time, and certainly one of the top stallions, ever. My cousin worked at Winfield in Oshawa, and said he was a "hellraiser".

I have long considered the blood of Northern Dancer to be royal. He put speed and toughness in his get. Notice that he was a small horse, he was a classic winner because all the parts fit just right. Next time you go to the track, don't dismiss a horse because of size, he might be a grandson of Northern Dancer.

Northern Dancer has had great influence throughout the racing world. Here in Australia his grandson Danehill was champion sire countless times and sire of The Golden Slipper winner (world's richest 2yr old event) numerous years running. Now Danehill's sons are kicking butt, none more so than Redoute's Choice. After watching N.Dancer's strong win the picture becomes alot clearer.

If you're interested you can watch Northern Dancer's great, great grandson Dance Hero win the $3m G1 Golden Slipper by entering "golden slipper" into the youtube search engine. Dance Hero is by Danehill's son Danzero, himself a winner of the 1200m G1 race. Dance Hero went on to win the next two legs of the 2yr old triple crown (G1 Sires Produce 1400m + G1 Champagne Stakes 1600m)

yes i heard the same --that he was quite a handful AND they had even considered gelding him as a yearling--thank god they didn't!!--i understand one of the few people he was a lamb with was mrs taylor(he was owned by EP TAYLOR) --as well there is a photo i saw of him being petted by a blind boy and again apparently he was good as gold--usually you had to watch him for love bites...lol

One of the best Canadian performances I saw in the U.S. was Steve Stavro's filly Apelia winning by MANY at the Spa an a stake. She had worked THREE (3!) times in 46 and change at old Greenwood up to the race and I knew she was a lock at 5 to 1. Larry Attard rode.

Now here's the thing: Northern Dancer pretty much lead all the way, and was on the rail in running that terrific. However, SECRETARIAT came from off the pace, passing horses three and four wide, and running down the center of the lane most of the stretch run to the finish . . . AND HE STILL SET THE RECORD BY 3 LENGTHS!!! Nothing, I meaning nothing compares. He's literally in his own GALAXY!

Fair enough ... the Dancer held the Derby record till Secretariat, so the spread is not that large.
