  • They're really good this year....just sayin'.

  • You know what the worst part is. Some of you posting these comments posted them during tour that year. While you sat and critisized them they were in some grass field dripping in sweat probably sunburnt with blisters all over their feet working on this show day and night and all you had to say was negative things. I hope you felt stupid watching them take finals at the end of the season. You guys are so rude.

  • How many of you people critisizing these guys have ever actually marched drum corps. Probably not very many. You have no idea how hard it is and to bash them on one of their FIRST shows of the season is just cold. You people could NEVER do what they are doing. and for the guys ragging on the trumpet soloist. In my first year of drum corps I had the pleasure of being taught by him and I know for a fact he is a much better player than any of you guys probably are and definitely a better marcher.

  • Must be a very early performance in the year. There were all kinds of spacing issues and shottly01 is right about the opening flag routine. I know Madison is so much more capable!

  • Does any one know the tuba notes from 2:42 to 3:00 or at least part of it?!?!?!?!?!?!

  • I'm lovin that badass line turn!

  • ehh trunpet solo was dirty, but still i couldnt do much better, i love madison scouts and i think this was a good show, just not their best which is hard to compare to.

  • This could be any of a hundred corps out there. It most definitely isn't the Scouts I've come to love. Boring!

  • boring? thats why the crowd was up on their feet...EVERY performance...including this early season show!

    thanx

  • What I'm saying is they've put on more exciting shows in the past. This one is rather bland for them. The crowd is on their feet because they are fans of Madison. They'd stand for anything they did.

  • ok, so...without droppin the whole biast remark, becuz i am one of "them" in the video, ill give you this information. madison scouts have always had a long standing tradition for excellence committment and brotherhood. unfortuantely there are other elements that factor into a drum corps...staff. corps wit consistant staff have consistant seasons. this was a rebuilding year and it was successful, so says the finals medal around the necks of me and my brothers. so yea, the show was def not bland.

  • Talk about bias! LOL! As a spectator, in my opinion, this show was not one of Madison's best. Hey, if it's a rebuilding year, then that would explain it.

  • you're a bitch!

  • I'm not your mother, but nice try.

  • weak performance... horrible.

  • well it was early july last season so that's what mid season about, scouts had an awesome show this year, maybe not technically but the drill and music is just great, cavaliers music this year was a tad boring although good it's not like last year during samauri you want to chant "YAH, HEE-YAH" with the corps.

  • OUCH! the flag techs need to be fired...opener flag book should be clean...I hope this was early in season. "Hot mess" by mrmcmusic is right. Bring back the artistry and finesse that the 80's madison guard set.

  • did u see the colorguard midseason? or even finals? i wish people on here actually knew what they were talkin about....

    thanx

side 2 40 yrd line, four in front of front hash!

  • Bah. I'm hoping to do this in 2010 on rifle line. HOPING. haah :))

  • I'm auditioning for 2010 madison scouts, I've got a really good feeling about this band. :)

  • its not a band its drum &bugle corps get it right

  • right, drum and bugle corps.. my bad

  • lmao suck dont it??

at least you didint say it to a corp director.. they get really pissed..

  • so i hear

  • Gotta root for my home team the Crossmen, but I'll admit, Madison's show was tight. Those unis are slick, too. I hope they keep 'em.

  • omg!!!

i hope that i can be one of them one day.

i want to be in their guard!

im planning on going to the university of minnesota and being in the scouts.

I HOPE MY PLAN WORKS OUT!!!

  • wow you can tell it was early in the season the opening guard stuff was a hot mess but go madison

  • Unfortunately, the guard stayed a "hot mess" all season; which is sad because they once had the BEST guard in the biz!

  • I hate the new uniforms. The white pants was so much flashier! The Scouts marching used to be so supurb but they have to disquise their poor marching with black slacks. :(

I agree Crossmen had a better show but judges are hopeless. This year I think they would have scored Madison 12th even if they were a 17th place corps. They almost went bankrupt and DCI wont let that happen.

  • the madison scouts are the shit...and the new uniform are great. they dont need anything to cover up there marching its the shit to...ur on crack!

  • ???Until Scouts changed the uniform in 2006 they were one of the few the did wear white pants. The large majority of corps now wear dark pants and dark shoes. SO I guess everyone else wears dark pants to disguise their crappy marching as well?

  • If you talk to the directors thats exactly what they will tell you. Certainly nobody is rehearsing less marching because of it though, all corps are excellent. But dark slacks does cover flaws in timing and transitions. Hey I'd do it too! But I will always love the 90's Scouts look and sound, I miss that at finals.

  • I haven't disputed the effect of dark slacks, I'm pointing out the irony of accusing Scouts of having to cover up their "bad marching" with dark slacks when most of the other top 12 have already gone to them. By intimation, your comment means those other corps did it for the same reason.

But there are two effects of white pants. They do show error more clearly, but they also make the corps look bigger. You gain something but you also lose something.

  • I'd rather see them have white slacks and get horrible visual scores. I loved the uniforms all thru the 80s and 90s.

  • I marched scouts.. but I honestly think Crossmen should have been in finals. Scouts were just too plain this year

  • i thought they deserved to be in finals. this show was a pretty awesome show and watching the guard here and then the final product..AMAZING improvement. Oh, and watch out for Relampago this year ;)

  • Their guard was 14th in semifinals, not really an improvement. Horns and percussion were the stronger side of the show.

  • i agree they did have generally a cool show wasn't as clean as everyone else's though but just the music and the drill were cool

  • :D

one season of taking a (deep) breath, now back to be the loudest corps once again!

  • i got to house with this corps this summer when i marched that opeining chord woke us up hahah

  • @yeaBASS09 haha what corps did u march with? i marched this season i remember sharing a housing site but forgot wit who lol

  • how old are the contra players that madison usually carry

  • I am so trying out for the 2009 season!

  • its not a long E mr crocker...

  • This to me was the coolest, most entertaining show of the year. And the Scouts didn't need to resort to over-the-top theatrics like bludgeoning each other to death on the field.

  • scouts stayed at my school before a show in minnesota and i watched em 8-4 its was the best 8 hours of my life

  • wasn back up visuually? are you kidding me?

  • the 50 lbs i lost running thru the whole damn thing says this show was back up visually! :)

  • speakers really don't do this opener justice....

  • I only saw this show yesterday at world finals...it had amazing potential, and awesome awesome music, but it wasn't backed up visually...i didn't see but 3 or 4 good straight lines thru the whole thing...

These guys used to live at my school when they came to indiana before for just the regular season event in indianapolis...maybe they'll be back next year when it's not in bloomington...

  • am I ignorant or did Madison not have plates before this year? that's cool.

  • no sir ur not ignorant.... the plate line was always there up until 04 i believe, we were able to bring them back becuz the number on the feidl went up to 150 and from pressure from alumni.

  • This show is cool. I got to see the whole show. Scouts are living at my high school until finals.

    Second song is my fav.

  • LOL this drum major is fierce

  • loved the preformance, great job.

  • go roebuck!!!!

  • i love the band. the guard does suck. at state they got 8th.

  • Band? Really? Band?

    OMG, u oviously arent very

    educated when it comes to

    drum corps...

  • Calm my friend.

Clearly nodody has enlightened this one to the wonders of drum corps.

    But yea. Band!?!?! Seriously?

  • There guard is SOOOOOOOOOO dirty!!! I can't stand it!!!

  • really? try finis.

  • I'm pretty much with you on everything, except the puzzling part after "...".

    "Dischord and gack drums"?

First, what the heck are "gack drums"? (I've been playing percussion professionally for 30 years, and never heard that one!)

Secondly, though it may be out of Madison's beloved style, I hope you're not calling Alberto Ginastera's music "a mash of dischord", along with the rest of the stuff you don't like.

It isn't. It's super music, backed up by great orchestras worldwide for decades.

  • Basically refers to the small drum on a set of quints or sixers.... Gack being the sound they make... Taking nothng away from the music itself... but bemoaning the loss of corps individuality and signature styles. Used to be you could have an idea of who was performing by the repitoire....

    Cavies - Symphonic wind music

BD - Big band jazz and hard hitting latin

Phantom - Big, dark classical with plenty of bottom

    etc...

  • people usually call them a "spock" or "shot" drum.

  • Good to see cymbal lines back with the Scouts. Way over due if you ask me.

Definitely not as strong when comparing this year to previous years but still always a crowd pleaser.

  • It's getting to the point where I can't tell one 'corps' from another. Sheesh!

Bring back the G-Bugles for petes sake! Sounds like a bunch of bands. So sad.

  • Hate to be a hater but I agree. Every horn line sounds the same. The only way to tell the difference is if you know the arranger's style. You can always pick out phantom, the cadets, cavies and bluecoats because of writing but most other horn lines sound identical.

I hope the Scouts get back in the top 12 but its not looking like it will be easy this season.

  • theyre coming along. its a step up from last year. so they need to keep it up

  • 2 things,

    A. i dont know your experience with corps, but to scream on a field requires an incredible about of talent, and if they dont have a person with that kind aof talent, thats fine, id rather have many good trumpets, than 1 amazing one, and a couple of throw-aways (not saying that anyone in a corp would ever be a throw away)

    2. dont forget, this is only like the first week of touring, it will get much much better, and they will find places to put in octaves im sure of it. . you wait
