@69chuddy It does because it was the only street legal production vehicle to hold a true Formula 1 Ferrari engine. The F50GT is not street legal, but the normal F50 is, and it has the same engine as the GT, except for it is detuned for Federal Emission standards....
@CarEnthusiast80 WTF dude this isnt a F1 engine u dumbshit idiot... And it has the same engine as the GT? that why f50gt engine is bigger than the f50 1?
Did you know Ferrari did indeed put a Formula 1 V12 in the back of a Ferrari F50? Did you also know that the Ferrari F50 GT has a limiter of up to 11,500 RPM, and produces as much genuine sound as that of a Formula 1 engine? In fact, even Ferrari said that the engine is direct from a F1 engine.
That tells you something. The F50 has an electronic limiter on the engine because if it isn't limited, it can cause a lot of break downs.
@CarEnthusiast80 The only thing that makes the F50 GT not street legal is the fact it has race slick tires. Change that and you've got a street legal car.
Airbags are not in federal regulations for street legal cars. A lot of cars that have no airbags, such as classics and specialized cars, including street legal racecars, have no airbags and are allowed on streets. Seatbelts? This car has five-point seatbelts. Mufflers? Seriously? There's no regulation for mufflers or exhausts.
@ArcanineKing cars without airbags (from the factory) need government waivers. race harnesses are only street legal if approved by the DOT.
here's an example muffler law: "CA. V.C. 27150 (a) Every motor vehicle subject to registration shall be equipped with an adequate muffler in constant operation and properly maintained to prevent any excessive or unusual noise, and no muffler or exhaust system shall be equipped with a cutout, bypass, or similar device."
@kkage2 Wouldn't be able to accurately reproduce sound, the engine needs to be loaded, and aside from driving the only way to do that is on a dyno. And with modern day sound editing software it's nothing to be able to edit out the dyno noise.
Definitely no doubt this is based on an F1 engine, especially considering the Murcielago's engine is based on an engine that actually pre-dates the Miura lol.
@C63AMGestate And that particular Lamborghini V12 was inspired by / ripped off from F1 designs itself; that is, Giotto Bizzarrini, an ex Ferrari engineer, designed it. The mission objective was to capture all the *sounds* the car makes. Starts, stops, door open, door close, belt latch, belt release and also engine sounds from the LeMans configuration of ecu and exhaust.
The primary objective was to capture engine sound samples from 10,500 RPM down to about 5,000 RPM in 500 RPM increments, under load for 10 seconds.

or are you saying that in order for it to be considered a GT1 you have to buy a chasis from ferrari that was designed for a GT1?
if thats the case then where would you get the rest of the car from?
everything is different in a ferrari f50 compared to an f50 gt.....the only similarities is that they used a similar engine however the gt version put out 200 more hp and was highly tuned to allow for high revs constantly.....other than that the cars have almost nothing in common besides their shape
@hereHehereHE The engine of the "normal" F50 is based off the 1992 (I think) V12 Ferrari Formula 1. The engine of the F50 GT IS the engine from the F1, nothing changed. So, I'd be astonished if somebody would make a GT1 engine out of a F50 engine.
@Corona142 Sorry, I didn't verified my sources. Now I did. The engine is based of the 1990 F1 V12 engine, but over bored to 4.7L (the most they could). So it's false that it's THE F1 V12 of 1990, but true to say that it's based of it. =)
that yellow circle is for towing the car , you can attach a chain onto it , they are on all racing cars , btw thanks for this video erdero , this is brilliant!
They didn't care, and dropped the project anyway. Customers can do whatever with the car, but to agree with Ferrari's terms, they weren't allowed to enter them in any major racing events.
I'm well aware that they can do what they wan t with the cars im just saying are we sure its an F50GT b/c there were only 3 made and i have a SUPER hard time believing that they would let them do that to a piece of history.
First its a sports car and secondly while it is a beautifull car it isnt the Gioconda. If something breaks down on it it can be fixed and who can afford the price tag can easily afford to have it fixed.
I'm guessing that the car was created around the same time that Michael Schumacher, Ross Brawn, and Rory Byrne joined the team. I think it was because they were shifting their focus on Formula One that year and didn't want to devote anymore resources to it.
an FXX could never outclass an F50 GT, why? the FXX was purposely built to try out prototype equipment, and was filled with the most alien shit technology from that time, everything in the fucking thing had a blackbox strapped to it and owners can't even drive it out of specially arranged racing days, the F50 GT was purposely built to pull lap times but later on pulled out of the circuit
it out performs the FXX easy, it is the 1994 Ferrari F1 engine in a stripped F50 with a hard top roof it gots 730 HP made for the FIA GT races but ferrari focused on the F1 that year so sold the 3 prototypes
bit of a strange story because and F1 engine is hard to tune ;) because they were made for the limit, and they cost around 5 mil each so i think a customer would be carefull with it ^^
I'm dying to know whether this would keep-up-with or even out perform the FXX. It IS 600lbs lighter. Or even the 641/2 F1 car. So little information evrywhere.
Depending on the track, on a small track where power is scarcely needed but handling triumphs F50gt, But on nurburgring. FXX beat the F50, How do i know?
it's officially rated at 750, but they didn't actually run it on they dyno to test the power. you can see the microphones around it; it was being recorded for PGR3.
Okay because I heard the car smashed the wall in '04, and repaired to be 900 bhp+. I guess my final question is, do you know if this vid was recorded before the first crash? Sorry if I'm getting on your nerves :).
It sounds like it has straight cut gears, which make a high pitched whistling noise, also the slicks will make a lot of noise on the rollers - its a combination of the two that you can hear.
people who say the new nissan gtr can beat any car obviously has never seen this since i believe that this or the new fxx is the best ferrari ever made

hey what is that yellow circle on the front of the car? and what does it do?
BIGT6851 2 years ago
that yellow circle is for towing the car , you can attach a chain onto it , they are on all racing cars , btw thanks for this video erdero , this is brilliant!
Aidzo91 2 years ago 2
cool! thanks!

I always thought that it was a the license for a racing car LOL.

awesome vid.
we did 10 second pulls in 500 RPM increments from 10,500 down to about 4,500 . . .

this is the best video I have seen from the "closed" Forza tapings @ Streetwerke . . .
The best audio by far . . .
That's me running the dyno, Mark Price from MS Game Studio, my boss driving the car.
Great video !!!
Outrageous !!!!
stentorsoft 2 years ago
they were made for competition racing but never finished ;) because they were going to focus on the F1
JustaKarter 2 years ago
how come they only made 3?? something 2 do with GT1 regulations??
DrJCCC20 2 years ago
they were produced in the year 1996
and 3 years later they won again a title after 16 years
JustaKarter 2 years ago
Is that possible? there have only been 3 made and i doubt that they would let someone redline it for 25 seconds...?
tufmandan 2 years ago
They didn't care, and dropped the project anyway. Customers can do whatever with the car, but to agree with Ferrari's terms, they weren't allowed to enter them in any major racing events.
MercilessOne 2 years ago
I'm well aware that they can do what they wan t with the cars im just saying are we sure its an F50GT b/c there were only 3 made and i have a SUPER hard time believing that they would let them do that to a piece of history.
tufmandan 2 years ago
First its a sports car and secondly while it is a beautifull car it isnt the Gioconda. If something breaks down on it it can be fixed and who can afford the price tag can easily afford to have it fixed.

I got my name from the FXX
RossFxx 2 years ago
what i want to know is why did ferrari only make 3 F50GT's?
BIGT6851 2 years ago
I'm guessing that the car was created around the same time that Michael Schumacher, Ross Brawn, and Rory Byrne joined the team. I think it was because they were shifting their focus on Formula One that year and didn't want to devote anymore resources to it.
MercilessOne 2 years ago
@mike
the FXX can but only on tracks with a really long straight line ;) so only his top is beter ;)
JustaKarter 2 years ago
an FXX could never outclass an F50 GT, why? the FXX was purposely built to try out prototype equipment, and was filled with the most alien shit technology from that time, everything in the fucking thing had a blackbox strapped to it and owners can't even drive it out of specially arranged racing days, the F50 GT was purposely built to pull lap times but later on pulled out of the circuit
mikenew11 2 years ago
the 7:35 vs the 7:40 is because the top of the FXX is a bit higher
JustaKarter 2 years ago
it out performs the FXX easy, it is the 1994 Ferrari F1 engine in a stripped F50 with a hard top roof it gots 730 HP made for the FIA GT races but ferrari focused on the F1 that year so sold the 3 prototypes
JustaKarter 2 years ago
Is it true that one of them was actually wrecked by a customer and sent back to him rebuilt by Ferrari with a retuned engine pumping 900+ HP?
MercilessOne 2 years ago
bit of a strange story because and F1 engine is hard to tune ;) because they were made for the limit, and they cost around 5 mil each so i think a customer would be carefull with it ^^
JustaKarter 2 years ago
I'm not sure about that last bit, I'm certain that one guy did wreck an F50GT.

this is better than the horniest sound a woman could ever produce...seriously..
my god..the low revs ahhhh :P LOL excuse me if I come over a bit nasty but this thing is the SHIT

This car just rapes.
MercilessOne 2 years ago 2
I'm dying to know whether this would keep-up-with or even out perform the FXX. It IS 600lbs lighter. Or even the 641/2 F1 car. So little information evrywhere.
Pininfarina777 2 years ago
Well on Forza 2 (Racing Sim) it murders the FXX. but thats just a game
TheRandomness03 2 years ago 2
Depending on the track, on a small track where power is scarcely needed but handling triumphs F50gt, But on nurburgring. FXX beat the F50, How do i know?
because i did it.
Fxx- 7:35 f50- 7:40
on leguna seca. damn. i got owned.
dgeneration2daxtreme 2 years ago
I heard the f50 gt made better laptimes than the fxx is doing...

It beat the 333 SP around their test track.

rumor has it that it would in fact beat the fxx.

Having this car as a dream car kinda sucks, because even if you were rich as hell. You still couldn't get one :*(

Nice vid. Is the whistling type noise in the background at 1:19-1:23 the racing transmission??
beroth1 2 years ago
it's either that or something with the dyno.
erdero 2 years ago
That's what I was thinkin... Do you know how much power the car had at the time of the dyno??
beroth1 2 years ago
it's officially rated at 750, but they didn't actually run it on they dyno to test the power. you can see the microphones around it; it was being recorded for PGR3.
erdero 2 years ago
Okay because I heard the car smashed the wall in '04, and repaired to be 900 bhp+. I guess my final question is, do you know if this vid was recorded before the first crash? Sorry if I'm getting on your nerves :).
beroth1 2 years ago
he let the gas off the car and let it idle for a few
DeVoNiSrEtArDeD 2 years ago
It sounds like it has straight cut gears, which make a high pitched whistling noise, also the slicks will make a lot of noise on the rollers - its a combination of the two that you can hear.
danwebster4130 2 years ago 2
that high sound is the differential, the power that is going through that makes it noisy :P
Avalaunch123 2 years ago
Id say that sound is the rollers on the dyno actually...
MidshipExpress 2 years ago
people who say the new nissan gtr can beat any car obviously has never seen this since i believe that this or the new fxx is the best ferrari ever made
Uv7x77 2 years ago
This is a race car, which means it cannot be registered as a public automobile in practically every jurisdiction with traffic laws.
Also, anybody with fine taste with always agree that the 250 GTO and F40 were Ferrari's finest, uncontested.
