Nice tone...your guitar has that warm and clear pluncky tone that I'm after.I like the Vox ac15 as well and suspect it would sound even better with a good alnico speaker in there
I was thinking about getting one, but I need an amp that will fill up a small stage with a monstrous sound and the 15W kind of turns me off. Does it support external cabinets? If it does, I would definitely be into getting this thing.
@teccdeccdude231 It does support external cabinets. Just be sure to check the impedance levels. However, if you crank the volume to 10 and then use the master to adjust to your liking, I'm sure that it'll do fine.
Thanks for the excellent description and good playing. I got a good feel for this amplifier, from your review. I hope you can maybe do more of them. I always felt that the elegance of English, as spoken BY the English, was a treat when reviewing or describing complex things in a simple and straightforward manner.
@johnnysomersett Hey, no need to get snippy. I'm considering buying one of these and I'm listening to lots of demos here on YT: I suspect most who do the same already know what the controls are/do. Didn't notice much in the way of opinion. I have no problem with the demo itself, shows the versatility of this amp well I thought. The playing is not sh*tty!
Demos will appear, if I can be bothered, when I have something interesting to actually demo.
The playing wasn't bad at all, although it did sound like your axe is out of tune. Thanks for the demo, I'm looking to get this amp so I'm listening to all those I can find and this one is more helpful than many, for sure.
@trepos22 it's not a gibson neck - some mij jazzmasters released in the 70s had gibson-style trapezoidal inlays. i saw one like this on the sonic youth gear website, and i thought the same thing until i looked it up
hey great vid! i have one of these too and its awesome. was wondering though, what kind of amp stand is that? looks like what i've been looking for in an amp stand
Seriously thinking about getting one of these, I hear they're better than the CCs before it, not that I'd know. It would be my first "true" valve amp, just dealt with solid state and hybrids before.
I've only got one question, and to put it bluntly, how loud does this go? (I don't care about a bit of breakup) do you think it's up for cutting through even the most narcissistic drummers at a gig?
@Replay107 I have one It goes pretty loud It really depends on how big the venue is. Honestly I'd say rent one and play it with your drummer if its not loud enough get an AC30 same thing just bigger and its more mixable if that makes sense.
@7StrangeFruits Bad advice. An AC30 is only about 3db louder than an AC15 (to double the volume you need to increase the wattage by 10x. Doubling the wattage only increases volume a small amount. Mostly it adds clean headroom). To get louder volumes, it's cheaper and more effective to simply run the amp through a 4x12 or, better yet, a PA if you've got one. Volume is more a function of the speakers and how efficient they are or how many of them there are.
@danakerman Well said. I'd simply dangle a Sennheiser e609 over the front of it, and let the mains in the club do the rest. The mic sounds great -- very transparent, so what you dial in to the amp is what you'll get back through the PA system... and it's only $100+ online.
@7StrangeFruits For example, the Greenback is rated for 25watts. If you put in a speaker that is rated for 70 watts, like one of the modern Celestions, the amp will be significantly louder (but the tone will likely change). If you have a cab with FOUR of those speakers, you're going to pump out a lot of volume. Running this amp through a 4x12 with Greenbacks would be VERY loud. And cheaper than buying an AC30 that only gives you +3db
@Replay107 I own one, and play with a drummer who makes 'Animal' from the Muppet show seem like a teenager in a marching band! If you scroll down and read the reply I left for danakerman, I think you'll find that suggestion to be very helpful. :)
I just bought one of these off Amazon after a little research and this video. Cheers bro. Thanks for the vid.

i have a question will turning up the master to 10 and leaving the regular volume lower make this amp distort?
NintendoSinceBirth1 10 months ago
@NintendoSinceBirth1 No you need to do the opposite, jack the normal volume to distort, and then use the master to keep it quite.
theflatheadkid 9 months ago
Actual playing starts around 1:20, followed soon by more talk (about the reverb).

@karlboman ... sorry about that, a REVIEW normally has opinion built in - hard to express an opinion without actually speaking.
Maybe I should refer to one of your demos... oh no, you haven't done ANY.

I dont remember checking tuning before recording though, my bad
