I think void rays are fine to have ,even if scouted, just change your tactics with them. they should last you the entire game, unless he gets out vikings.

@w33dOr i belive the counter to vray is stim marine...collossi eats rines...if u get vikings against vrays, they will be effective, but if u want cost efficiency, might as well get the stim rines especially beacuse they are pretty much required in any terran army compostion/

i would agree that i may have made too many Vrays, although i probably shouldn't have sacrificed the one to delay that starport, but considering this was my first time using stargate in my build, i'd say it was okay. I think next time, ill go 2 vrays and then add some phoenix, or 1 vray, few phoenix, and one more vray. as was seen here, the void rays make an excellent addition to my army, so i think i'll do that more often, at least on close proximity maps like this one

@DrkInferno90 I think it's fine to go void rays and continue building them after your original planned harassment has failed but like the caster said you need to mix them into your army. I think zealots/sentrys/void rays will work very well if you FF behind your enemy's army so that he is unable to move, letting your zealots and void rays be used to their full advantage and stopping the possibility of kiting..

Btw, smurfs are legit for practicing BOs you don't want to affect your normal account, afterall if you paid for it so you hav the right to do what you want with it. Sure it's annoying for the people that will get steamrolled but they'll get to plat in no time anyway.

@darkdude98 True and if it were that simple it would be good for those who wouldn't have to face the smurf account. However, as said by tasteless/artosis last night during the GSL grand final, playing customs with the same group of people over and over changes how you perceive the metagame and your expectations of what can occur (you base it solely on what those players are doing and take it as the only thing the enemy can do), it's only on ladder where you can experience truely varied play.

@AnetteOlzonForever If you need to practice a certain build and you're worried it'll fail then how does playing against lower levelled players help with that? It doesn't, not even in the slightest. Playing Vs Diamond and Playing Vs Silver is a completely different experience, what could you learn from playing someone still learning the game that you couldn't learn either Vs the AI or against a few friends to test it out? Nothing.

@darkdude98 Nah, they don't test it out on low ranked players, infact they try and beat the low players quickly to rank to diamond for exactly that reason. Smurfs aren't used to crush noobs, it's an account that they can use to test different BOs/play styles out on ladder, against lots of different players without having to worry about the build/style failing ie dropping rank and having people question their ability/penis size and lower their confidence due to losing lots of points.

@AnetteOlzonForever Then surely you'd expect them to win all their placement games. Placing in Platinum to start with even shouldn't be too hard for them. A platinum/diamond level player doesn't end up in bronze league from their placement matches unless they're doing it on purpose. Which was the example mentioned in the video. Makes no sense to me at all for people who do this, a few losses won't screw up your ranking much at all, and losing more than that than maybe the tactic sucks?

To the second bit maybe, though if they're playing at the highest level (almost certain this dude wasn't) you need to test styles and builds against so many different combinations to see if there is any merit persuing them which could take many games.

But yes, in the case mentioned the dude was in bronze but plat on another account, that's just being a dick.

I would say the void ray harrass was a HUGE SUCCESS forced a ton of turrets delayed start poertr killed some marines

@jpopp009 Yeah exactly. The harass started out successfully. Turrets go down, some marines and SCVs are killed, loses a lot of mining time and is pinned back in the base. As long as he doesn't overextend himself and loses the voids it was totally a good investment.

oh and i just wanna say some things that u missed in your analysis:

basically, the void ray harass wasn't god awful. you kept talking about it like it was a total fail when in reality it was probably more like neutral.

stuff he did: kill 3 scvs, force like 5 turrets, contain the terran (essential, since he had like 6 guys total), kill 1 viking, delay a starport (pretty much no money lost so much as just time), kill a marine or two.

he lost 2 voidrays, but its not like it was 100% in vain

if u are a platinum player playing on another accout: yeah its called "smurfing". yeah it sucks and all. but its also their right. if they have 2 accounts- say... one for North America and one for European league. while it does suck for the few matches hes playing against silver, there's nothing that anyone can really do about it. he isn't smurfing to feel good, you go up the ladder too fast for that to be viable.

Actually, following through with the VR's and forcing the Terran player to mix in more marines is actually a decent enough strategy. It forces the opponent to fight on your terms, not his. Like you said, the tech switch over to Colossus was a good call afterward.

And y'know, having your kid cast with you was a nice touch. So fun. :)
