mr. heron will remain a lyrical genius to me and to babytaylorm post, you are right on point! too many judge harshly and those are the ones who will never understand that, to err is human.
@chavillia He was never locked up 10 years for conspiracy. He was arrested several times and served time off and on for cocaine possession, contempt of court and parole violation. He his had problems like everyone else. However, it's not worth mentioning compared to his legendary body of works. His accomplishments far exceed his mistakes. Thanks Gil.
i am so hurt to know that gil is on drugs. i am 4 yrs. clean now and listened to gil before i started. i always felt that i didn't listen good enough. enjoying the music, but too ignorant to take it in. is anyone sure that this isn't a rumour? i'm hoping it is. however, when yoy spend your life being blessed to have that 3rd eye, like gil, one can feel an overbearing pressure that i guess one would need a release from. if the rumours are true, i hope he gets it together. i love him anyway!
saw gil with brain jackson in cold massachusets in nineteenhundred and seventy eight, winter in america!..hallelujah.........its been, thirtyfucken one years!
How do you keep a people down? You 'never' let them 'know' their history.
The 7th Cavalry got their butts in a sling again after the Little Big Horn Massacre, fourteen years later, the day after the Wounded Knee Massacre. If it wasn't for the 9th Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers, there would of been a second massacre of the 7th Cavalry. Read, and visit site/great history, rescue at pine ridge. com
please dont read this. you wll get kissed on the nearest possible friday by the love of ur life. tomorrow will be the best day of your life. however if you dont post this comment to at least 3 videos you will die within 2 days.
Wow, give or take a note or two that's pretty much the same solo Robbie was playing in there nearly twenty years ago. My god, it's actually over 20 years since I first saw Gil. I can't imagine I'll ever lose my love for his music and talent or the soft spot for him either. Thanks for posting that vid.
Great to see Gil back in the game, first saw him at Park West in Chi in 78 but was a fan well before that. Talk about the last performer I EVER expected to have a drug problem. God i hate it. I cannot quit smoking so in a small way I can relate.
Very pleased to see Gordon still on bass, guess it has been a very long time, did not have a beard last I saw him, and it certainly was not grey, early nineties maybe, Gil was late, maybe already into drugs then, but charming and confident. The Cracker
Whatever his devils may be...his music stil speaks more, gotta love the man!! I've read all the other comments, don't know who the bassist is, just in the pocket!!! And...I got some Gil on vinyl, and NEVER giving it up! Bass player IS off the chain, does anyone know if that's Stanley Clake?? That would be my guess. The shit won't be televised!!!
no mistaking it (cept for the beard he grew out here) that's Robert Gordon... "Minister of Entertainment" as well as Larry MacDonald on congas...those two have been around with him since the early 80's i'm not sure if it was after REFLECTIONS or Real Eyes. i don't have my vinyl handy at work...hell, i dont even have a turn table...just had to pick them up, they're not available on cd domestically. IS THERE ANY WAY I COULD GET A COPY OF THIS RECORDING?? west coast...couldn't attend
Gil Scott is a brilliant poet. I would love to know what he would write about what is happening today with the energy crisis, Obama, and the politics in general. He has lived through alot. Get well Gil, you have lots of fans who love you.
Its funny cuz most of his songs apply to the now give or take a few details. Its like the same problems keep surfacing or more like times change and same S#*t keeps happenin. I mean listen to a song like marvin gaye's "Your the man" its befitting of this election.
well, from what i read up on him, hes gotten charged for so many drugs and jailed... i wish he would stay clean and tour the states, i would love to hear that brilliant voice in my town, chat with him even
Gil Will be In ATL on Friday, July 5th!!!@ sugar Hill In the underground mall And I will be in the building!!! I have an original print of "The Mind Of Gil-Scott-Heron" that came w/ a poetry book....I need that signed so I can frame!!!
I attended the show as well and it was the chance of a lifetime. He autographed his book for me and I will treasure it forever. His voice, message and sense of humor is amazing!!!
It is so sad to see such a talented man like Gil on drugs. Something that he has talked down on in his art! He is one of my biggest influenes! I wouldn't of never started writing poetry myself if it wasn't for this man. Get well soon my brother, I'll keep you in my prayers!
There is no need to insult people--especially when they are correct. Unfortunately, Gil has been arrested several times on crack/cocaine charges. He has admitted it in interviews. As a matter of fact, he was arrested in October. Our brother is struggling right now and needs our help.
It's sad what drugs can do, and that we've largely been robbed of this talent. I too pray for Gil's health and improvement. I've seen him perform 6-7 times, although not recently, and each time has been an inspiration. Get well soon my brotha.
Sad what drugs can do? Yeah ok so he's got a habit, but the government keep fucking him let's not forget!!!!! And remember some of his lyrics and tell me Gil isn't a sharp as a razor.
I recorded a concert of his at the Jazz Cafe in Camden in 1999 on my mini-disc with a lapel mic. For what it was recorded on it came out really well. It was an amazing concert. Brian Jackson was there with him, it was an amazing gig in a small venue. When the flute kicks in for Winter In America .. the hairs on my arms stood on end.
Just as Gil's music has been missed so has his political commentary. Keith Olbermann's CSNBC comments are strong on this country's domestic and foreign policies but Gil had his own way to express for the voiceless in this country
well, as a died in the wood fan from Ireland it is so good to see that Gil is still alive and kicking - and singing, and playing and generally enjoying life. Long my it last. And thanks, Gil.
Every time that I go to Gil Scott Heron`s music on this site I just cannot stop, and usually end up on this thing for a long time. Hope that if he tours that he makes Montreal Quebec one of his stops. Maybe the Jazz Fest?
