I met Adam Faith in a video store in Kent UK a few years before he died. I was amazed by how small he was. He was with a beautiful tall blonde woman who I was not introduced too. Smashing down to earth bloke.
Does anyone have this film on DVD. If so, could they please post it on isohunt, so people can download it. It's such a great film, when we used to make great films.
@jazza123456789o Yes, I have it on DVD (recorded off cable) but I have no idea how to post to isohunt, or what isohunt is. The movie is 91 mins but I used a high bit rate to fill the entire 4.7 gb DVD so that I'd get maximum clarity. A 4.7gb file would take a long time to transfer! My guess is that a decent ripped file would be about 650mb.
When David Lodge gets out of the taxi in this clip, the traffic you can see in the distance is on the Harrow Road; Ranelagh Bridge is just visible.
Another location was Fortess Rd in Kentish Town - that's where Todd alights from a '24' bus (the 24s never ran on that road!) and keeps an appointment at a beauty salon.
So, although they're trying to convey the idea of 'Meadow's Garage' and 'Berger's' being close to each other, the locations were several miles apart.
In the daytime scenes showing the pub, trolleybuses can be seen going south-west on Baring St - they're 641s heading ultimately for the City Road and Moorgate.
Adam is stealing the Anglia at the southern end of Southgate Rd where it intersects with Baring Street. Todd's place of work ('Berger's') was actually the Thomas Briggs Building and is still there, as is the 'Southgate Arms', the pub seen in the film.
'Meadow's Garage' was in Chichester Place, Paddington - much of that area was demolished to make way for the Westway Flyover in '64-'65.
Great movie. Sellers is positively scarey as a villian, but the real stars are Adam Faith and Carol White, both of whom blow the "old school" Richard Todd clean off the screen.

I actually saw the scene being filmed of Adam Faith stealing the Ford Anglia. I also saw Richard Todd and Mervyn Johns at the pub opposite. I asked Richard for his autograph, but he wouldn't sign. Todd was one of the few stars who actually portrayed something he'd actually experienced, namely the storming of Pegasus Bridge on D Day.
according to the book "the life and death of peter sellers" a lot of the exteriors were filmed in an area of paddington that has been since demolished. i don't know if that includes this sequence, as it's in a high street, but it's likely to be the same area
I saw this being filmed too, It was by the Regents Canal just off New North Road in Islington. At the time almost every kid in my school had a fag end that supposedly got tossed away by Adam Faith.
@Krzyszczynski - I interviewed David Lodge, who played Cliff, and he said that Peter did not stay in character the whole time. Apparently, they had a terrible attack of the giggles when filming the scene where David interrupts Peter and his girl and they had to keep re-taking it all day!
no that was the film mix me a person, another great film with adam faith in which he ended up in prison sentanced to be hanged for a crime he didnt commit
Thats two films that star Ford Anglias.I agree that Peter Sellars played a very vicious crook in this. Why don,t they make films as good as this anymore.?
Because no one knows how to write them for one. Two, people just seem to want films with special effects rather than good acting. And I supppose no one likes monochrome films anymore. But I agree with you, the films from the 40's, 50's were better. If you liked this, watch: 'Hell is a city' with stanley baker.
I have the DVD of this and it is excellent, especially as there's an 'upright' behind the stolen Anglia the same as mine in the rare colour of Black :)

This is very interesting. Where was this scene filmed, and do you know where the rest of the film was shot?

Sellers reputedly stayed "in character" the whole time he was making the film - on and off the set. His poor wife ...
