Although I would love to own an AWD beetle (the FWD ones dont cut it!) It seems to look like it falls into the lower classes for rally, possibly the same class as an 80's vehicle?

This is from right after I built the car, and I had rear springs that were a little too stiff which led to lots of oversteer. Getting on the gas too much just put it sideways.

Yes, but now its considered lower/old.
