a technical point all blackstar amps uses TL072 as a distortion circuit with little gain but it injects it into a 2 stage tube preamp and forces the tube to break,tubes here acts like an overdriver with a standard distortion back to back, changing the tube wont make alot of difference in the gain as the solidstate circuit driving the tube is still going to be dominant. this goes to most blackstar amps except the Artisan series is a 100% tube no solidstate at all. hope this can help :)

Nope...Blackstar Emulated line out straight into interface DI.

are you referring to the HT20? (as i don't see how anyone could want more gain out of the DistX pedal)

i don't believe changing the tube brand will have a noticable increase in gain. it might have some slight differences compared to the stock tube, but dont expect a completely new high gain sound.

you could try boosting it with a overdrive/TS type pedal up front. check out my demo of the barber direct drive pedal or any tubescreamer/OD pedals.

@J0HanSolo I went through the songs on the soundcloud page before I made this comment, but didn't find the riff in the intro of any of the songs so I asked. I listened to One Door in its entirety, it's brilliant music. The music at the very end is what I was looking for, will go and have a listen now, thanks!
