this reminds me of my shin. i hit it over a log hard enough that it split the shin in a clean line 3 inches down my shin. you could see the meat and everything. the only difference between ours was mine as on my shin and i had 14 stiches
dude, I had a break in my tibia fibula above my ankle, and on the forth day in the hospital after an intermeduliary rod was inserted down my tibia, I ended up with Compartment Syndrome. They cut me open to prevent me from loosing my leg. I had like a 90 on their pressure machine. Anyway, I ended up with a graft instead of having it closed because I lost so much tissue from the days of excessive pressure. Good to see your leg got stitched up. I've got a narly scar.
@elibunyan1 Hey, I also broke my tibia and Fibula after a nasty car incident and went down a 30ft embankment into a wall, after 3 days i got compartment syndrome they did a right sided fasciotomy on my right leg and the pressure was 61 and 2 days later i had to go back in for the left side done this pressure was 46 normal pressure should be under 20! I had a drain in it and after 2 weeks it was closed without skingraft :) just 76 stitches
Nasty scars thought to boot plus the tibial nail.
@cadaverock trust me not bull im a 24 year old girl whose just come outta hospital after a 4 week stay after a tibia and fibula fracture, i had compartment syndrome and needed a double fasciotomy on my right leg - google it and see! :) i have 4 scars from the tibial nail and screws and the double fasciotomy with 76 stitches to prove it. :P All from a bad car crash with a daft male driver who took me 30ft down an embankment into a wall :(
I have had compartment syndrome acutely in my right leg twice, the first time from a tae kwon do tournament (which I won) and the second time after playing hockey and getting smashed in the shin. I have to say it was the most pain I have ever had and the recovery after the second operation was intense (they grafted me the second time) great to see you sharing your experience. edward90ism1 when they left mine open I could see both and even now you can see my muscles move under the scar
It can be caused by many things; pretty much anything that causes the muscle to swell too much. The connective tissue that surrounds your muscles, fascia, is not very flexible so pressure builds up and cuts off circulation leading to tissue death if not relieved. Cutting open the fascia relieves the pressure and allows circulation to return.
I had a gunshot wound that hit me in my left flank, went through me, and came out behind my right knee cap......i had a faciotomy on each side of my right leg......from the knee to the end of the caf........47 stiches total
Compartment syndrome occurs when deep bone or muscle tissue is injured and swells, but the stiff fibrous connective tissue of the fascia prevents the expansion outward so pressure builds causing excruciating pain. A surgeon will relieve the pressure by opening the fascia with long deep incisions. It can be caused by a broken bone, crushing of a limb and sometimes an adverse reaction to IV medication (but that is usually in the arms).
No, my medical textbook. I didn't think someone would complain about an accurate answer. But I guess some people will always find something to complain about.
You wouldn't think they would but there you go. I actually appreciate it because it saves me the extra time of having to go google it to find out what it was. Thanks!

Dude i've got chronic exertional compartment syndrome. I'm going in the 15th of this month (april) for the pressure testing, and my doc (i'
m in the Army) says I'll more than likely need surgery...
why the HELL did your leg bust open like that? I've seen a few incidents of that... so what exactly happened? Did it hurt?
