@lmbgemini this scene has nothing to do with sex.It is tender and passionate. They dont even think of having sex they feel a sparkle of love in their hearts.Read the book and youll understand that there is no sexual implications watsoever
This dialogue is better written in the 1996 version I think. In that version Rochester says :"what is the matter? You are shivering" and then Jane replies "I am cold". So "I am cold line" is the excuse given for shivering. It's better than her saying "I'm cold" out of the blue. She was hot but pretending to be cold of course!
I think when he says "You will leave me then" doesn't mean sex. I studied Jane Eyre and have read it since, Mr Rochester would be happy with Jane's companionship after such a fright. However, there are undertones of attraction of course.
He wants to reward her for saving his life with what? Sex? Us women don't easily want to have sex with any man. Which makes it more of a reward for him. And besides, he'll want her more if she plays hard to get.
the truth is, there are some men that you would, unbeknownst to one's self when dignity was lost, take the pleasure to kiss in the least. Michael Fassbender appears to be one of those men.
i really love this new version! the words are extremely close to the book and the acting was great! this is one of my favourite versions along with the 1983......2006....eh.
I TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH YOU.JOAQUIN IS ONE OF THE MOST TALENTED ACTORS THAT HAVE EVER BLOSSOMED IN HOLLYWOOD.WATCH HIS MOVIES ESPESSIALLY QUILLS AND YOU WILL UNDERSTAND WHAT I MEAN.THE MAN CAN ACTUALLY ACT.HE MAKES YOU FEEL HIM.HIS ROLES ARE ALWAYS SO STRONG AND POWERFUL.ANYWAYS YOU HAVE A DIFFERENT POINT OF VIEW,SO WHAT?THANKS FOR ANSWERING.
I was watching this and when Jane pulled away I was like, "Jane, you idiot!! I would have KIlLED for a chance like that!! You are blowing it, stupid!"
When I saw this at the pics a woman up the back exclaimed "oh for gods sake!" when she pulled away, that go a few sniggers. Ended up having a massive Fassbender appreciation session afterwards with complete strangers in the cinema.
He is just so hot!!! wish I could get this on audio so I could play it in the car, could be a traffic hazard though LOL
the first version of Jane Eyre i saw was this one, and im in love with it. these two acotrs are the best and take on the charaters very well. love this movie
IF THERE WILL EVER BE ANOTHER JANE EYRE FILM I WANT YOU ALL JE FANS TO PICTURE JOAQUIN PHOENIX AT THE ROLE OF MR ROCHESTER.I THINK HE'D BE WONDERFULL.IF YOU AGREE POST YOUR COMMENTS CONCERNING JOAQUIN.I WANT YOUR POINT OF VIEW.I WOULD APPRICIATE IT IF YOU LET ME KNOW AS TO WHAT YOU THINK
@annetekoul I don't like Joachin Phoenix at all, sorry. He can't act and there's something unhealthy in him. Fassbender creates the Mr. Rochester I've always thought to the several times I read the book. Nobody was able to portray this character so well, up to now and I think nobody else will be.
geez guys...get your facts right....rochester was described as not particularly handsome in the book, but nowhere does it mention him as being ugly....
both Rochester and jane are described as being plain, ordinary looking...nothing too outstanding..and i think the director of this movie chose his cast well :)
in my opinion he is the best Rochester I've seen,he is dark, sarcastic, intense and tender when necessary. very similar to the Rochester my own imagination has built. his gaze is captivating when he means it to be so. amazing actor Mr. Fassbender is..
I WATCHED THIS MOVIE THE OTHER DAY AND THINK THAT IT'S A JOB WELL DONE.I CONSIDER MICHAEL FASBENDER ,IN THE ROLE OF ROCHESTER,AWESOME ALMOST AS GOOD AS TIMOTHY DALTONS POTRAYAL OF THE CHARACTER IN THE 1983 ADAPTATION OF JE.HOWEVER I PREFER DALTON.HE IS SO CONVINCING AT THIS ROLE,HIS ACTING SO STRONG AND PASSIONATE.HE BECOMES ROCHESTER.AS FOR FASBENDER I LIKED HIM,SUCH A HANDSOME ACTOR!
@iSkyexx Haha, he's freaking gorgeous ay. I reckon Rochester is too, really. He's just not the 1800s view on beauty and so Charlotte wrote him as not being handsome, but her description of him in the book pretty much sounds gorgeous to me haha
@SmileysAllRound Touche'! Haha, he really is. I know, wasn't Rochester's beauty in the book basically described as someone ruggedly handsome, but not like "WOW HOT DAMN..drool" type of beauty aahaa.
Well Michael Fassbender, surely changed the way people thought of what beauty is in 1800's. He is one beautiful man. And not only that he seems like a really awesome, down to earth person....SIGHH!
@iSkyexx I agree,he's not meant to be that handsome but to have something in him,his character, the man he is for her to be attracted to him.Otherwise, who wouldn't fall in love instantly in Michael Fassbender as Mr.Rochester?:)That's why I love most William Hurt,he's real and not a filmish,I you get me,Mr.Rochester.
Jane is Polish-Australian, Rochester is Irish-German, and the director is Japanese/Swedish-American. Just one of many reasons why this movie absolutely ruled.
this was my faaaaaaavorite part of the movie by far! thank you so much for posting it! i have been dying to hear michael fassbender's sexy seductive tones again.... :P
@Doo7ati3 I'm happy they did not kiss there, people often forget that back then this type of behavior was not accepted, and that a girl as young as she should have respect for her self. @lalabunnybr well actually I HAD REPOSTED IT RIGHT AFTER I DELETED IT BECAUSE I HAD MISSPELLED A WORD! but i believe i had said that, IF YOU HAD READ THE BOOK, THEN YOU WOULD KNOW THAT THE SCENE HERE is quite, no very similiar!

@Aberacadaera you're replying to the wrong person, I never said this scene wasn't in the books. And to be honest I think using caps is quite rude. Good day!
@lalabunnybr well since you think it to be quite rude using caps, let me tell you this, LIKE THIS - I was simply using the capital letters to get my point across because i was surprised to see your first comment to me, i felt that was very rude
@lalabunnybr omg I totally agree with you, I hate it when they add too much sexual scenes/kissing to movies like these. People keep forgetting that our era and theirs were very different, specially when it came to social life.
Most boring version of Jane Eyre to-date. Fabricated dialogue, huge chunks of the book were just written out (?!) of the film altogether. Anti-climactic and truncated ending. The Japanese director obviously did not read the book and had no clue about how this story. He should have directed a Godzilla remake instead.
I'm leaving cause it's cold, this house is creepy, and you're freaking me out! I love his voice. It take real will power to say no to a voice like that.
I am totally utterly completely hypnotized and transfixed (if the word can ever have a positive meaning). I saw the entire film last night and I love this version more than any other. ANd I have to vote for one of the greatest voices ever. The reserve they show, the inner explosion of emotion, the struggle. They do justice to the original characters in the book.
FUCK its getting Hot in here. Now I'm gonna HAVE to see his movie. I wish there was a video on youtube with all of his parts in the movie. Clips only with Fassbender. Seeing him as Magneto was the highlight of June for me.
@drivingmebatty you r absolutely RIGHT. He is the only one who gives shivers and wanna take a very COLD shower :3 :p and I am actually going NOW to have my shower, specially when I see this videos :)
I am gonna make a voting! Which is your favorite scene in this breath holding piece of art film? Is it this one, or "why you must leave me, or what would Jane Eyre do for keeping my happiness, or the "do you see me handsome scene?
In plain English, LOVE this film very MUCH. It will be my best entertainment EVER. Though it is a very deffistated and sad ending, but my best movie EVER. I like both of them , specially Fassbender ^^ :* -_-
I wished that they kissed. That would make the clip worth watching it some several times. Fassbender I love youuuuuuuuuuuu soooooooooooo much! That's the kinaa of voice I am looking to have in my life. Plus you were my favorite character in X-Men First Class. Magnito ;)
@Doo7ati3 to the contrary. I think the build in tension is fantastic; Charlotte had a really tactful way of building up the drama and then dicing it. It's like a good piece of music.

@west7689 Michael Fassbender was amazing in this movie, I also loved Toby Stephens in the 2006 version which is my all time favorite. YES very unreal. I LOVE IT!!!
