I can't believe anyone would find this offensive, but least of all someone who knew about real hypnosis, and I'm trained in hypnotherapy and hypnoanalysis.
At the end I genuinely cannot stop laughing at Kevin Eldon...
are people genuinely finding this offensive? this show also has men getting pregnant, women dating temporary traffic lights and people made of foam! you think it has anything to do with reality? its surreal comedy, i think 'checkoutmymelody' is the only person in the world who has taken this sketch seriously. if anything it addresses and ridicules some of the silly stereotypes that hypnotism has gained if you're going to look at it seriously.
It is funny but a bit unfair to a field of health care that has been fighting this sort of crap for a long time. Very funny though, the scene where the evil guy walks past the door HILARIOUS.

@felixq78 My boyfriend is a certified hypnotherapist himself and Im studying to be one. This is insane. And ignorant. And has nothing to do with hypnosis. Its offensive.
@checkoutmymelody I'm sorry you found it offensive. As someone who has studied hypnosis, I find it hilarious. Does it play on the stereotypes of hypnosis and hypnotists? Absolutely. It's like a sketch involving any profession where the stereotypes are exaggerated for comic effect. Also don't overlook the fact that, in spite of the comedy, the sketch depicts a successful session.
@checkoutmymelody This sketch hasn't changed my opinion about hypnotherapi, I can tell the difference between a sketch and reality and I would still visit a hypnotherapist if I had a problem they could help with. I might prefer a hypnotherapist with a bit more humour than you though :P
I love the internal logic of this sketch. Like real medicine, with more serious cases, the treatment becomes more aggressive and riskier.
What SNL don't seem to realise is you need to be smart enough in order to pull off dumb. You can't just scream a lot with bad impressions and pop culture references.
I suppose if you are an evil hypnotist working professionally, you would probably be required to tell the patient, like in the sketch. You wouldn't want problems afterward, if the patient found out about the evil later. You could get sued.
Was "Hannibal Rising" not supposed to be a comedy? Oh dear! Honestly I think Simon is really capable of straight acting. That's what makes "Shaun of the Dead", "Hot Fuzz" ans Spaced so special.
Check out "Fist of Fun" and "This Morning with Richard Not Judy" on which Eldon was known as "Kevin Eldon -- the actor" since he insisted on being presented as an actor when doing the comedy circuit. My favourite skit was Eldon pretending to be a jelly-obsessed Rod Hull.
I believe they're all still friends. In his recent Glasgow stand-up show, Stewart Lee mentions a discussion he had with Eldon on how to improve one of his jokes in the show.
Agreed! We have our fair share of wankers here too! But sadly the horrible use of the terms 'retarded' and 'gay' as terms of derision have come over from your side of the Pond.
I must admit I have never seen this. Thanks for posting it. One of my favorites (though highly silly) is Red Dwarf. Unfortunately I must concur with your assessment of America's youth, ignorant, uneducated, and with a decisive lack of the English language. Yes, Simon does look a bit like Dr. Lecter. Would have been quite an interesting experiment.
If Simon Pegg would have played him in "Hannibal" instead of Gaspard Ulliel I would have watched that movie!

haha, then Hannibal will become a comedy! Much like what Simon's done with Dawn of the Dead! Great idea.
