Instead of seeing a mental disease that kills, we see a way to make ourselves lovely, and this movie reminds us of it. If you really think about it, it's rather counterproductive.

@DaliDahmerly - I don't mean to chime in, but I'd thought that the movie actually showed the negative effects of having an eating disorder. Lexie's friend had died in the movie due to a weakened heart from the bulimia - purging (vomiting in her care), and Lexie had to get a nasal (nose) gastric (stomach) tube to get nutrition due to refusing to eat.

Really? Does no one learn from this movie? The point of this movie is to show you this disease can kill. Its not just a script but it is real life. Fasting is not used for losing weight by the way..fasting is something spiritual. If you are playing around about this it is no joke either. Not hating just saying!

@tclemente2010 That may be what it's MEANT to do, but to anyone with an eating disorder, the whole thing is one big trigger. Instead of seeing a mental disease that kills, we see a way to make ourselves lovely, and this movie reminds us of it. If you really think about it, it's rather counterproductive.

@xMel96 I you eat under 800 calories a day you can lose a least a pound or two a week, especially if your exercising.

When was this movie filmed, I wonder. Even though this movie was released in 1996, I think it might have been filmed earlier, because Katie Wright (Lexi) was in another Moment of Truth movie "Abduction of Innocence" released the same year. In that movie, her hair is much shorter (and blonder) and she looks older than she does in this movie. .

@DaliDahmerly - I don't mean to chime in, but I'd thought that the movie actually showed the negative effects of having an eating disorder. Lexie's friend had died in the movie due to a weakened heart from the bulimia - purging (vomiting in her care), and Lexie had to get a nasal (nose) gastric (stomach) tube to get nutrition due to refusing to eat.

So typical. Actress (Katie Wright) is dressed in heavy clothing (sweaters, turtlenecks, jackets, and a t-shirt over 2 sweatshirts) to make her look "fat". She also probably had on an extra layer of makeup skin to make her cheeks seem chunky. In the flashforward beach party scene, she is wearing a light sweater with a jacket in her hand and her face is thin.
