@SeruQuik umm... vitamins don't make pokemon happy... (Atleast, not directly, they give that insignificant happiness boost that you'd get from giving them ANY item that doesn't have an un-happy modifier, so potions are just as effective.)
Bulbapedia and Psypokes both disagree with you solidly. According to those sources, giving any vitamin to any pokemon will directly add points to that pokemon's Happiness rating.
The twins were technically the very first double battle, even though you only fought their pokemon one at a time.

Pretty sure HP Ups, as with all vitamins, add to a Pokemon's happiness. Even in Gen II
