  • Life is study!!!!!!!!!

  • Someone teased me "You can't bring any of your books with you when you die." I answered "That's why I have read them all when I'm still alive."

  • i understand that someone can be really into "knowledge" about anything practically

but i see this rather like a personal favour, than something that everybody should experience because otherwise he would miss out on something essential in life

so im asking you now, what would you answere to "why should everybody feel the need to read and learn all the time"

  • @tobyiy because without knowledge you would lack understanding of whatever it is you find so essential.

  • The majority of my learning comes from outside of school. I lack an interest in everything in school (just because it is associated with authority and necessity). I prefer to learn on my own without demanding work that I have to turn in. Coming from a high school student.

  • thanks for the tips!

  • Cropperb I need you help. I understand you like history. What are some great novels and texts about the history of Rome. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

  • I went to a bad grade and high school with too many distractions and unruly students. It wasn't until I was out of school that I started reading tons of books, most of them about science subjects but also great classics too. That was 30 years ago. I still love books today and have around a thousand. I can't live without books. I feel guilty if I don't read.

  • Without education and a want to keep on studying you will stay stuck in your life.

  • yaaayy im not the only one who reads 99% history or science books. the real stuff is life is always the best. thats something that applies to so many areas. i dunno. i fall asleep when i start reading ficiton. leave it to the movies :P

  • this guy is a strange huh

  • This is my veiw, you can't just focus your life in to studying, you need a balance of fun and work, besides you don't have to teach anything unnescessary, and, you'll be surprised how much you'll learn from a walk out side...

  • I'm DIEING to find a way to concentrate for 4 or more hours on a single subject. Any tips?

  • Have you never spent all day doing something and said, "wow! Time flies when you're having fun!"

That's the secret! Find what you love and keep at it. Be sure to move out of your comfort zone every now and then. From a teacher's perspective, students should be roughly 90% comfortable with the material, and 10% should be new or "frustrating." But, if you're frustrated, seek some help, or find something else that makes you happy.

  • just a quick thumbs up and a thanks for your tip

  • im trying to figure out how to focus on a book for more than 5 min....

  • @cyberspy034 Drugs. Or just marijuana.

  • @cyberspy034 Do 20 minutes take a break, then another 20 minutes and take a break etc. During the breaks walk around, get yourself a drink, dance or juggle (the later helps you retain the information learnt.

  • @cyberspy034 find something you love. Then its easy to do all day. If you don't care for it then its not worth your time.

  • excelents advises which books do u recomend ?

  • I am not the director but, for me who used to vomit in front of books, just simple essays are good

  • is that reflection of Christmas tree?!

  • I don't know if I can "study" "all the time," but college has repeatedly taught me a multitude of ways NOT to prepare for exams. The only method that ever did work was reading my textbooks for about 3 times over, a feat which almost amounts to "studying all the time," and it appears that I have no other choice but to live and conform to that fact.

  • I sure will recommend you read a book more than once. Lets say Ayn Rand introduktion of epistemology -- how should it be possible for any human being to understand all the content in that book by reading it once? -- My point is that you allways grasp something new, a new angle. But it do append on which book it is and what you want to understand and learn. My experice is that I understand a lot more when I read the book again because I see more.

  • if my mother didn't buy me a illustrated encyclopedia when i was an adolescence i don't think i would be the inquiring person i am now. i thank her so much for it and if i become a father one day i will certainly do the same. also watching the discovery channel in my early teen years too!

  • I don't even own a TV. I do, However, Have a radio. MPR/NPR plays in my living space almost constantly.

A love of learning is a blessing.

  • you sound and look like Mr. Mackey from South Park.

    Mmmm k?

  • 100% agree here, schools can only build the foundations of learning, alot has to be done by the individual

reading reading about what you love and what you want to learn about is very important.

very wise words here, im sure you are a great teacher.

  • I will advice you to Read Ibn Khalduns Book called The Muqaddamah, in that book read "The Methods of Instruction", especially page 416. Hope that wil be worth your time. 333-459. Really Really Helpful.

  • Great video. I will start trying to take this into practice!

  • I like to read, in so far as it feeds my knowledge of writing. I look at style, character developments, etc. I learn to write by reading. However, I definitely enjoy a great book too. But to create original ideas I tend towards stream-of consciousness style. This avoids direct coping of material and style. I usually get to that when I edit. Ha-ha!

  • Yes, get the kids to read more than what is set for the class. I even practice this for myself, in my Cuban studies, I get the books my professor tells me to get, but also books that are more straight forward and have the more important parts about Cuba so that when I read the bigger books it's easier to understand what I'm reading and it gets into the mind better when one reads about the same thing twice but written in different ways.

  • Good idea. Makes sense to me so I will try it! I agree about the fiction part... i'm not a fan.

  • wtf? you need to smoke a joint

  • I am with you on this. One should ALWAYS have a book handy.

I also agree that if it is not interesting, put it down (hence, my love of the public library).

I am trying to instill this love of reading to my children. It is working!

  • There we go, good point: ALWAYS have a book handy. One in your car, one by your bed, one near the toilet, one in your purse if that's your thing...

I'm glad to hear your kids have such an influence. While I'm at it, let me admonish you to disconnect your tv. If you want your kids to watch documentaries, rent them from Netflix (HUGE selection).

  • True. I merely meant be reading something every day; always have a reading project. I didn't say read every minute of every day, did I? Your assertion is crazy.

  • hey I am having trouble picking a book and uusally when I pick a book and start reading I'm very slow :( can you help me out?
