It was never changed. Basically it's an old spelling of Beijing. In chinese is it pronounced Bei-jing, but the old way of writing it was peking. They changed the way of romanising and pronouncing Chinese a while ago. We just pronounced it wrong!

We have to look forward as everyone can see that China is making good progress everyday. Chinese people have enjoyed more freedom than any of its time and we can't expect it to change overnight. Behind the Tinaman Square and Tibet riot, there was no doubt some western powers were behind it.
there are manipulation and spins in media reports in any countries. just a few editing on the footage and some political comments can change the whole story. so dont just assume that chinese media is brainwashing, and western media is fair.

I cannot emphasize this enough. Most Americans are not stupid and narcissistic. We are against wars and not really interested in "rescuing" other people and ending up being accused of an "aggressive" country.

u are really friendly,but u do not udstd the Chinese's thought. Do u know Zheng He? He was a navigator in Ming dynasty(A.D.1405), Korean and Vietnanese were dependencies of Ming dynasty at then. He have no colonize the land(whole south east asia,India,Persian Gulf,east Africa) where he conquered like Spanish and English.We lost the chance to control ocean. Why he give up the chance?

P.S. China was not exactly a peaceful country back then. I've heard Vietnamese and Koreans criticizing China about how arrogant the country was, especially the way the Chinese emporers and diplomats attempting to intervene the domestic policies of these two countries back in the old days and even now.... Ha, ha, just like us, you Chinese are not very good at making friends, either.

More importantly, in my first post, I already recognized that most Chinese consider western countries "evil," so you did not have to remind me of that.
And besides, don't get offended by the statement, "who gives a sh** about China?" We are not obligated to pay attention to what's happening in China. As long as China's not planning to hurt the US, trust me, I do not give a sh** about the way Beijing treats its civilians. It does not have anything to do with us Americans.

i am sure china will be the next super power. what people here are most concerned is the living conditions and rights of the poor and powerless, which is the majority. don't forget what China's wealth is built on.

Maybe we Americans should just stop feeling sorry for those Chinese yearning for democracy because most Chinese do not want the sympathy from evil western countries. Everytime, we criticize Beijing, a lot(and I do mean a lot)of patriotic Chinese will immediately gather a lot of "facts" to demonize us. You know what, who gives a s**t about Chinese? Haven't we made enough mistakes? The Korean War, Hello?

Frankly, I am not interested in what's happening in Iraq. The religious groups in Iraq had been killing each other, and our stupid president dragged American young men and women into it.

i'm a chinese young guy, i KNEW the truth when i was childhood. profit from the internet, 'coz the internet no boundary. Any chinese in mainland detest autarchy,but reformation stopped by dictator in June 4th 1989...the new generation(1980s) will be hope in future.
