This is too close to a cover. Everything is the exact same timing, I'd rather listen to someone else's twist on the song, rather than a different voice singing it.
Why, oh why do people insist on ripping apart musicians that do covers like this because it's not as close as is humanly possible to the original? A cover is a tribute, or their own take on a specific song, he doesn't have to sound like Layne, nor do I think he's trying to, he's singing the song his way and they did a good job, give them credit.

This is a nice cover and all this bs about the singer not having the right tone and pitch... he hits the notes perfectly. Layne Staley didn't exactly have the most normal tone as a singer himself. This guy pulls it off better than Brent from Shinedown and that's saying something. Everyone's a critic.
comparing this guy to layne is jsut ridiculous. not only was layne an infinitely better singer, but he added so much pain and anguish to his voice, it was passion that you cannot ever emulate.
i think hes over working the vocals..its a very soft song in the sense of music..the simplicity of it and the powerfulness of the lyrics..not that its a bad cover..covers and never like the original..its an interpretation.
And.. the singer still sucks.. I like lots of songs but I sure the heck don't go around butchering them thinking that I am doing it justice.. THE GUITARIST rocks.. absolutely wonderful.. The singer... STINKS!!
The playing is very good but the fact of the matter is that NO ONE can match Layne's pain and hurt and so there for anyone who tries to sing it fails miserably. Especially this guy, The guitarist is fantastic.. Beautiful playing.. Well done.
To dislike someone's singing because they don't sound like Layne is a very narrow way of approaching judgment. I think he is a great singer and his interpretation of this great song is equal to his voice. Layne won't get pissed if you like a cover of a song he sang. Know why? Because he's dead.

I am a singer, and I know pitch and voice and his simply isn't good. I will go as far as saying that perhaps it's the song itself, He might sound wonderful on another tune. But I will stick to what I said before is that he failed miserably! {Again the guitarist is fantastic! }

I think the speed is wrong... I mean, in my opinion need to be played slower, because of the energy and meaning it contains.
I think it's filled with pain, therefor it should be played slower :)
but that's just my opinion.. the vocals are good, and also the playing..
