this is the beginning, ladies and gentlemen. this is the beginning. and we are to blame. the many have let the few runs their lives and make their decisions for them. pdubya66's comment is correct. these companies have fought tooth and nail to get alternative energy vehicles NOT to be made or become the norm. the first car invented was electric.
nothing will change as long as big company lobbyists can rule legislature with cold hard cash. wake the fuck up, america.
this is not new !!! not a new plan, this same exact thing happened 35 years ago and they did the same thing and it didnt work then and they are still using the same technology from 35 years ago ??!!!!!
All the extremist conservative pro-free-market fuckheads are to blame. They hypocritically accuse ENVIRONMENTALISTS of "being hypocrites" for not taking action to reduce fossil-fuel use, but when they DO, and fight to get OTHERS to do, and if they WERE to tear down an oil rig before it started drilling, the rightwingers would call the environmentalists "terrorists" and "nuts" and "tree huggers".
It is doing what its supposed to do... what do you think a dispersant does? The short answer is it breaks up the oil matrix by likely overcoming the van der waals attraction force that is common in oil. Once that is accomplished UV, mechanical, thermal, and biological break down can occur. Need I remind you people that fossil fuels are created by biological and thermal processes?
Revelation 8:7, Upon the sounding of the second, a great, flaming mountain falls into the sea. A third of the oceans turn to blood, a third of the sea creatures are killed and a third of the rivers and springs, poisoning them and the many men who drink from them.
bad things happen to folks who blow the whistle. BP has a habit of hunting down and destroying the careers of those who warn of pipeline problems.
In one case, BP’s CEO of Alaskan operations hired a former CIA expert to break into the home of a whistleblower, Chuck Hamel, who had complained of conditions at the pipe’s tanker facility. BP tapped his phone calls and ran a surveillance and smear campaign against him. When caught, a US federal judge said BP’s acts were “reminiscent of Nazi Germany”
'A Louisiana State University researcher who has studied their effects on marine life said that by breaking oil into small particles, surfactants make it easier for fish and other animals to soak up the oil's toxic chemicals. That can impair the animals immune systems and cause reproductive problems.
"The oil's not at the surface, so it doesn't look so bad, but you have a situation where it's more available to fish," said Kevin Kleinow, a professor in LSU's school of veterinary medicine.'
In some honorable nations, business leaders that cause these type of problems, kill them selves. They cause a massive leak from the source, and then use the worst chemicals they could to mix it all up with. Waterboard them with the same water/oil/poison they have created!
Watch Philipe, grandson of Jacques Cousteau, dive right into the mixture and what happens to him!!!
This chemical is proven to be toxic. Yet the EPA says it isn't and is allowing BP to continue using it. The only purpose of using the dispersant is to make the oil disappear below the surface.
THIS IS LIKE A CRIMINAL COMPOUNDING HIS CRIME BY KILLING A WITNESS!
The top executive at BP and the EPA should go to jail for life!
If this were China, they would all have been hung by now.
But instead, the Coast Guard is threatening to arrest reporters for trying to film and photograph the crime scene
Hey - don't just blame BP for this disaster - look at the bigger picture!!!
If we all weren't so reliant on this fossil fuel commodity for use in everyday life, then companies like BP wouldn't need to try and extract oil from such crazy places. Think about it - it ain't all one way traffic!
@Redbozz01 . It is all one way traffic. We are only reliant on oil because the oil companies bought up all the patents on battery powered cars. They don't want us to use an alternative to oil because they would go out of business.
Search for alternative power sources, you would be surprised how much has been supressed by the energy companies...water powered cars, battery powered cars, magnetic power for generating electricity...its all been done so just ask yourself why it was never utulised.
This is disgusting, and such a tragedy. This is going to destroy that area for years to come. I also find it disgusting how the conservatives blame it all on President Obama. Way to latch on to a tragedy to push your political agenda.
This is only what we see. Corexit, the dispersant they are using subsurface and on the surface makes the oil denser so it is not visible thus hiding the true problem.
A lot more oil especially by volume is subsurface in the gulf moving around. The subsurface currents move in different directions that suface waters.
Why don't they just blow it up? The Russians used small nuclear weapons to stop leaks like this why can we just lower a hundred shipping containers filled with high explosives down there and just blow the shit out of the well? It worked for the Russians and its a very easy/fast plan to implement (the US government could implement this within a 5days easy utilizing the navy). And if all else fails nuke it. The Radioactive material clings to the sea floor so it no real threat.
you couldn't be more right. Boycott them. smash their income. then vote against the bail out. If you started something I'd support it, I bet more people would then before as well. As many people wouldn't care but it would do something. Great idea.
I say shut all the BP gas stations across the U.S. A. down! What are we waiting for? Then lock them all up in an Afghan prison and throw the key away. That's too good for them though! They already claimed they knew the rig would blow! We are so fucked.
Rather than shutting them down, the US Government should nationalize BP. Then either sell off all the assets or operate the business. All the profits could go towards paying for the cleanup.
There will be a meeting of the minds on Sunday May 30th @ 8:00am, Jackson Square in New Orleans. This is a call to christians especially, we are meant to be good stewards of the gifts we are given, this includes the beautiful blessing of the environment. Noah wasn't the only creature on that boat
There will be a meeting of the minds this weekend, Sunday May 30th @ 8:00am Jackson Square in New Orleans. And i'd just like to say to all the Christians that God didn't just put Noah on that boat. We are called to be stewards of whatever we are given, that includes the beautiful blessings of the environment!
So if the dispersant is breaking the oil up into small globs in the water, and it is several feet down, it will go right under any boom that might have been set up. Right?
@JorgeIvanovich I live in Louisiana, you can't even tell there was an oil spill, the beaches are clean, and the seafood tastes great, looks like all of you stupid fucks didn't know shit.
I really hope this stupidity isn't the cause of an extinction level event. Anyone who took science in highschool knows the importance of the ocean to oxygen production, the water cycle, and the food chain. Life depends on those three things.
lets not buy any petrol on BP gas stations, lets break this company forever, lets break their back selling everything in the stick exchange. Greedy guys just wanted more and more oil and the only thing they cause is mass extinction of full ecosystems in ht gulf of mexico. Shame on this guys.
@cramtoro BP or another = same shit. the problem is that americans are so depending of oil, for their big cars and trucks, that you can just wait for the other 48000 other oil-well to blow.
Is the public sending ideas of how to help clean up the mess?
Could special fine mesh/nets be designed and used to either float under the spills to keep the oil droplets from sinking down to the bottom -or- to use for skimming the oil like fishing boats catch fish?
The public is sending in ideas. In fact, there's a websites dedicated to exactly that. One company, InnoCentive Inc, has made a network of experts that have contributed to the over 10,000 different ideas that have been offered to BP. While BP has considered some, I don't think they've tried a single one yet.
Everything that has been done and is yet to be attempted to stop this disaster from continuing to wreak havoc will never come close to fixing or reversing the damage that has been done to our Gulf .Why terrorist even bother to cause destruction when left alone mankind will destroy everyting valuable to society as historically is proven true.
The dispersants were supposed to be used to keep the oil from reaching the shoreline. In reality, the dispersants make the oil impossible to get out of the water, the oil now has contaminated the entire water column, an additional toxin (the chemical dispersant) has been added to the mix, and a lot of this mix is going to wind up hitting the shoreline anyway. Those who created the problem have just made it worse.
@Probesoul This is why this GMA piece is typical whitewashing of this crime against the earth. GMA quote the so-called EPA: there is no alternative...turns out, it's doing a lot of good. As Riki Ott has said Corexit is extremely toxic. Biodegradable alternatives like Oil Sponge are available but the White House messiah places profits for Big Oil above alleviating the suffering of the Gulf. MSM keep talking "oil leak", "oil spill". It's a blowout of volcanic proportions.
BP is determined to hide the truth from the public knowing well the extent of ecological damage the spill has already caused. If BP execs believe the chemicals to disperse the oil are not creating additional eco-problems then let them all dive in their mess without protective suits. Philippe Cousteau Jr. & Sam Champion showed us the extensive environmental damage of the oil & chemicals while BP drills 2 relief wells mostly to profit from in the future & to pay for this mess.
This is the worst man mad disaster perhaps in Human History, I frear the Damage will be permanent to the delicat ecosystem, Just think of all the of the Marshlands in the Gulf, and even the Atlantic coast, its an outrage that BP is not doing enough....
@ around the 6:10 mark the reporter states the EPA says the checmicls used are not harmful and BP can continue to use them. That is a crock of crap!! Look up one of the chemicals, it's called corexit. You can google what the EPA says about it instead of trusting this reporters word for the news on Good Morning America...very different from what the websites say.
@lovedthepurplejacket :Rodney Chase: After its career at BP Chase got a post in the Counc.of govern.board of Nalco, the company that makes Corexit. The Nalco hold.comp.are checked by the large oil boys, and prove to be a beautiful and lucrative fin-de-carrière for executives. Daniel Sanders, the former top boss van Exxon Mobil, is there in the Council of govern.board. Nalco makes money to Corexit: it already made 40 mill. profit only on what there has been deposited since 20 April in the Gulf.
Google "EPA demands a less toxic dispersant in Gulf spill"
K now stfu and don't utter nonsense unless you even remotely know wtf you're bitching about. The govt gave BP, a private co, a chance to fix the situation themselves otherwise had they intervened you'd be bitching about how the fed govt interfered with BP-stating instead the oil co would have done a better job than the govt. They've failed and now the govt is getting ready to step in after the private sector failed....

so there has been spilled 1 exxon valdez amount per 4 days !!!!!!!!!!!!

The amount of HIGHLY TOXIC oil dispersant used to date totals approximately, 655,000 gallons

This oil spill is so detrimental and sad :(

@lovedthepurplejacket :Rodney Chase: After its career at BP Chase got a post in the Counc.of govern.board of Nalco, the company that makes Corexit. The Nalco hold.comp.are checked by the large oil boys, and prove to be a beautiful and lucrative fin-de-carrière for executives. Daniel Sanders, the former top boss van Exxon Mobil, is there in the Council of govern.board. Nalco makes money to Corexit: it already made 40 mill. profit only on what there has been deposited since 20 April in the Gulf.

@bohemianh
