Great vid, helped me a lot physhologically kinda in the same boat as you are just much lower stakes :) and looking good bro, looks like you been working out some ^^
Very good video. And I thinking about quiting playing any online poker because everyone is multi tabling and playing very super tight. I wish there were tables at pokerstars where only one table is allowed for players, everyone multi tabling is not allowed.
i dont know if you have this story told allready somewhere and if you do i wanna know where but i would like to know what was your starting bankroll...8 years ago:) and what games did you play to build it up.Also a good ideea would be to add a pokerbuddy in these videos...just discussing about poker and stuff...kinda like peter jetten`s show on rootbone.I mean i think its a good ideea but its up to you:P
Phil, can you tell us more about your life became a millionarie? I'm pretty curious to know how you were before you became the sucessful poker player you are now,
Just keep it in perspective. Losing digits on a poker site isn't losing money. Digits are not money, paper currency is not money. Gold is money, Silver is money, and nothing else is!
Love your idea of bankroll management. Only PhilGalfond can talk about these topics and make it so interesting. Do you have any future plan to do more poker coaching?
Phil , I really like these videos and have already subscribed and I know for sure I'll watch every vid that you upload . About the downswing... yes it was a pretty bad day but you're smarter than the average poker player and I am certain that you have learned a lot from it and will be back on track right away. Also about that playing poker when you haven't slept good - I found that to be really really bad for poker and I do not play any poker if I am not rested well
Do you distinguish a run of bad luck from a run of "not so good play"? Was it setups that you had been finding on your last sessions or did you just run below EV? Great vblog btw, luck at the "1-2 tables", lol
Thanks for this video, Phil. I had a recent huge downswing and videos like these ones really help me. Funny thing: the last great "saying" I've heard was from other Phil - Phil Laak - lol, and his story about his first (and last) bankrupcy.
Looks like you've lost a ton of weight since your HSP and other media appearances... making a conscious effort to exercise more, etc? Anyways thanks for doing these!
hey phil- i just wanna say that you are one of the nicest guys out there- i rail you when ever i can. your playing style is unique-you don`t back down and challenge yourself. you got a great heart and a determenation for the game. people like you make that game we all love so great! i`m a fan and will always be! good luck and hopefully i will get the pleasure to play with you one time in my life! much love from germany... no homo though ;-)
Thx Phil, i'm following you since 5 years and these videos are really great. I know it will be probable a dumb question but with the amount you lost 700k are you aware you could live forever in a very good place and just enjoy the life? I know money is important and poker too, but at one point what is your goal finaly? Did you ever thought about retiring and say ok i made millions, i will probably make few more but not necessary spend it so. I'm done, lets enjoy the life for good now !
In my opinion, when you lose in poker it is THE MONEY that makes you and every1 feel bad.. Its not losing in general.. When i lose 1mill play chips i care for a few mins, when i lose $300+ it can drag on for days depending on how much of the loss was my own fault (playing bad, bad choices etc).. Yea some people are competitive and hate to lose, but when moneys involved a loss will have a lasting effect much greater then pride..
Best of luck, Phil. I'm going through a downswing myself (though at a much smaller scale), and as much as I hate to say it, it gives me hope to know that guys like you are human too and it happens to the ballers same as everyone else. Nothing personal, haha -- hang in there and hopefully we'll fade some more of the 2-outers soon.
almost every poker players talks about how good phil galfond is and even phil has a lot of losing sessions...i came to the conclusion that poker is a waste of time and under 1% of people succeed.
if your positives are more than your negatives thats a profit. so loosing is just part of longterm winning outcome. - also even when you loose rake makes you less a loser i guess :)
@TheGonzaPoker what do u mean trollin? im just realistic..i used to play high stakes live games in montreal and overall i realized that poker is a waste of the time at the end of the day. It's better to have a steady pay then to be up 1k to 10k per night or lose 1k to 10k per night. You also blow stupid money when u play poker because you didn't work hard for it. ANYWAY i haven't gambled in 1 month and i feel like a WINNER :). I'm still addicted though
refreshing video, really cool insight keep it up, I seriously think you could explain rocket science and i'd get it, very articulate much respect man. noticed your not on pokerstatic so much anymore, any reason why not?
@SpatialMonk i dont think its like that, every person is different. i think i wouldnt be comfortable too cause at the end of the day your letting total strangers live in your house. I dont think him playing poker has anything to do with his comfort zone
Phil, my granny has given up playing bingo and started playing PLO, she has already lost her roll and her false teeth too, awful situation - nearly as bad as yours.

Nice vlogs man, like em alot. Any possibility that you'll be discussing a big hand on the nosebleeds that you played recently here sometime? I'd be really cool to see your thought process in one of those huge pots.
Hello phil i always watch your play in stars and i suggest your to avoid people like isidur this guy is crazy he can move all in preflop and take the advantage to win him post flop.
btw i wanna ask people what is mean EV i really dont understand. And Phil u seems to be ready good guys i wish u luck with your session in future.
About a year ago u wrote in your Bluefire blog that "You would be crazy if u think i have a steady 5M dollars liquid bankroll. So u had about 4 back then? And u have lost lately pretty much. So i guess your bankroll is about 2.5M. Try get it up again man!
