@GreyingJay No no, don't do that, each product actually ads kind of a fun personality to each motor. The brown box is that bland guy that just happens to have a great voice.
Where did you come up with the g-code for the song? I'd like to see it posted or put a link to it! It would be cool to play this on my cnc machines. I'd imagine it would take some tweaking of the motor tuning to get it to sound right. Very cool.
@brierejoe I used a Python script called "cnc2mid". I can't take any credit for the g-code. Check it out, I'm sure you'll get it working on your machine!
@AilurophileFox Proof of concept more than anything else... it's just neat that you can make music with motors! The plan is eventually for these motors to be installed in an actual machine that does useful work. Soon, soon...
The boxes are just acting like resonance chambers. The tones are being produced by the three steppers as they are being actuated at the proper speeds (all driven by the computer). I tried it without the boxes but the tones are more muffled and the motors vibrate against the table and don't sound so clear.
Amazing. Love it.

But seriously, that's pretty awesome. You played something other than Star Wars or Super Mario; you win.

@GreyingJay Some hardwood boxes on top of legos would do the trick (like a piano)
Cigar boxes would fit the bill perfect!
ganymedeIV4 6 months ago
do the boxes also give the tone or is that the speed of the motors?
