Hi Richard great documentary showing texture finishes, here in the UK we have a tool for creating those designs (almost similar anyway) it's called a stipple brush & it is square consisting of stiff rubber bristles which can be stomped, or dragged through the texture. Your work looks very professional indeed thanks for sharing your expertise. Regards Dale
@SpainFilmsProd Thank you for responding. If doing a solid texture, can color be added to the compound as one step instead of painting afterwards? You are such a joy to watch!
If the wall paper is stuck on really good then it is ok to texture over it. If it isn't and there are spots where it is loose then you will have to take the wall paper off before applying the texture. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
@VTYTA86 whether or not the wall paper is on good ,go over it with an oil base primer any bubbles that stick out, cut out and repeat primer. float over seams so theres no wall paper lines. probably better to take the paper off but if you dont feel like it, what i said is an option.
@boojiePooch im not quite sure what kind of texture he's doing. but what he said is pretty right on target. gotta take the acoustic ceiling off first. people use a water hose but i prefer to use one of my rigs to shoot the water on the ceiling. hose gets everything soaked. scrape popcorn, sand, float over nail pops and drywall seems with mud. pending on what kind of texture and how well you floated you may have to sand again b4 applying texture.
I want to texture my kitchen wall. The wall use to have cedar planks half way up, so the bottom half of the wall has random glue leftover, that is very difficult to remove. The top half of the wall has no texture but has semi-gloss paint on it. My question is, can I apply a texture product over the semi-gloss? It is very smooth and I'm concerned with it not sticking. I plan on doing a heavy texture for an Italian theme, so I plan on hiding the old glue.
You really need to scrape the glue off before applying the texture. You will risk pieces of your texture eventually falling off due to the loosing glue. Also if there is a seam between the semi-gloss and the ceder planks meet, you will have to fill those cracks in with mud or it will show through the texture/paint. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.
Thanks, I never knew you could do this, I was looking for a video on a way to spray on sheet rock mud to make texture, but I think i might try this way
thanks for the video, because this is exactly what I needed to see!! DIYer here too and let me say inexperienced barely-held-a-paint-roller DIYer and this had TONS of good information, THANK YOU!!

Do I put a primer on the wall first, then do this? Or just straight to the drywall and then texture, then paint? Thank you!
StacyJayT 4 months ago
@StacyJayT You will primer the wall once you are done texturing and it is dry. Thanks for watching!

Is there a rule of thumb for estimating how much mud a wall will take?
kersez 11 months ago
@kersez 1 box of mud will get you around 200 square feet. If you need a better estimate contact your local lumber yard. Thanks for watching.

Can I texture this way over mobile home walls and/or wallpaper? Should I sand the wall first?

@TLOYA1 Is this the same technique for knock down that I would use on the ceiling? Can I do this to cover my popcorn ceiling?
boojiePooch 4 months ago
@boojiePooch Once the ceiling is scraped you can add whatever texture you want!
