@thirdeye - he wasn't attempting to make a dark brooding 'Dark Angels' inspired hood, he wanted to make a chain coif. A chain coif, by it's very nature, would just fall down a person's face if it were long enough to do what that hood was doing. I agree, I liked the look of it, but that was never the intent of the sculptor.
Many sculptors who use the green epoxy ribbon use body oils or baby oil. Poke mail has been around for a long time. The other method is to use overlapping pokes from the tip of the smallest mechanical pencil or other very very small diameter tube you can find. That looks better than the poke method.
but everyone has a different method.. i've heard of people buying agents, using forehead sweat, wiping their tool on a moist sponge and so on... its whatever you find easiest! :)
the trick is to have a slightly moist tool, not a wet one!

looks good i used the same techneque to make a hood for my librarian but it wasn't chainmail it was just sopposed to be cloth
