@tmdkaaskop Punch drunk? Not really. Considering all the brutal fights he was in back in the 60's, when there were loads of great heavyweights, George is actually pretty lucid. Chuvalo is an amazing guy...and fighter. He was never floored. That's quite an achievement.
ALi could take a hit and so did frazier , chuvalo is a machine that took so many punches from ali , chuvalo is a weapon but ali owned him and the only thing chuv could say was.. " ali went to hospital that night , i danced with my wife that night " , u lost chuv tho that's the thing , u hit hard shots into kidneys , he in my view done whatever he could to still stand and school u in the manner of boxing and won which is the aim of the game ..he demolished your face and won :) .. love chuv but
@Pihasanddunes1 Yeah!!! Now that would have been one hell of a combination. The staying power of Chuvalo and the punching power of Shavers. 5 words come to mind World Heavyweight Champion for years.
Very bright guy, very analytical. My hat is off to anybody who fights Foreman, Frazier and Ali (twice) and can still talk at all, much less intelligently.
@1899sharkey 'only stopped because he broke his eye socket'... ONLY? isn't that much to you? is like I say Sonny Liston won aganst Bethea ONLY because he kicked his ass... that obviously makes no sense
@carlitoboxing Chuvalo fought almost 100 pro fights in the golden era of heavyweights. He was never knocked down and only stopped twice - once by Foreman and once by Frazier. Chuvalo has fought a lot of other hard punchers, though: Quarry, DeJohn, Turnbaugh, Bonavena, etc. He says DeJohn is the hardest puncer of the era. Check out what Chuvalo did to DeJohn! Ali ducked Chuvalo because he beat DeJohn so badly.
In all the interviews I have seen of Chuvalo he seems like a gentleman and a smart man. He looks in very good condition for a man in his 70's and I'm sure he did slip more punches than he was given credit for, if you look at his face it isn't all busted up and remember he fought some great punchers.
Chuvalo took Ali the distance TWICE. And put up valient efforts in both fights. To take the greatest of all time the distance for 15 rounds and 12 rounds is amazing. Chuvalo a legend!
Dude, This guy is like me, I'm Canadian with Croatian parents, He has the same fighting stance as me for boxing, I have a thick skull too haha, I can take punches easily too, This is awesome! George Chuvalo is epic! haha
@FpsDr0n A lot of Croats have tough blood, for a variety of reasons...I'm also a very proud Canadian-Croat...Chuvalo is a legend, outstanding guy, and has been through enough tragedy in his life. God Bless ! :)
I take into account what he says but some guys are just born tough - end of story. Look at all the great tough guys (chin) in boxing history, and one thing I've noticed is they never seem to die! Haha!
Fulmer, LaMotta, Basillio and Chuvalo are all alive and well, no illness, no slurred speech, just as healthy as they were 50 years ago!
Hands down Chuvalo and Jake Lamotta had the best chins of all time...Both came out of boxing with their brains intact as well...Jake's interview is even more impressive, he is sharp and his memory is awesome considering he was an uneducated boxing champ. Also Jake is funny, you get the feeling that fans would pay to talk for hours with Jake and he would not mind that,
nothing wrong with beign knocked down the sin in boxing is not getting back up. those days of bravado are long gone and we can't hope for it, just give us a heavyweight who isn't a fucking pussy regardless if he's vulnerable, atleast he will be exciting.
@VCthaGOATdunker The best story Chuvalo said was the Frazier fight. Chuvalo was not floored but had to stop because he told his corner he had trouble seeing. When he went to the hospital, the doctors told Chuvalo that his eye socket had been dislodged by Frazier. He had an operation, and in no time was back taking punches from the best heavyweights again.
I met him in July, he struck me as a very down to earth individual and I can't believe what he went through and is still surviving! A great inspiration to me and my family!
George is as sharp as a tack and shows no sign of dementia and is very intelligent. He was one of the toughest guys in boxing during the 50's and 60's.
Thats what he does now... or atleast what he was doing for alot of years. Lecturing high-school students on the evils of drugs and substance abuse. ...and god bless him for that. The guys been through alot... he's arguably had to be tougher outside the ring than he ever had to be inside of it. The guy is a rock, and a true role-model for not only boxers, but people in general. This guy could sing a blues song that would have made Muddy Waters seem happy-go-lucky!
THIS IS REALLY A FINE HUMAN!! I saw him in a "special" that had people that had fought the "Greatest" Ali )and I do belive he is)..The people were there as we all know his troubles!! George Chuvalo stood out as a MAN! HE told a very sad story about his Two Son's that battled drugs, in fact how one told him that "as soon as he saw the drugs/ to buy/ HE SOILED HIMSELF" right off!! It was a sad story for him, but he shared to help others! As a boxer he is no doubt underated! NOT AS A MAN!
He did slip a lot more punches than people gave him credit for and generally was really underrated as a boxer. Definitely not the quickest guy ever, just the toughest. He should will his body to science to see exactly what the secret of his durability was. Heard the BBC did magnetic imaging of Henry Cooper's head to find out why he was in such good health in spite of his age and all the shots he ate in his boxing career.
This is a good video. I don't understand how this guy is not universally regarded as the "TOUGHEST" fighter ever. 93 fights against the best in history and never even knocked down. UNBELIEVABLE!

George had tremendous Heart! A modest man. Most fighters would've just quit in his position. In the Ring and Outside of it.

never dropped but everytime he met a hard puncher (Frazier, Foreman) he was stopped easily in 3 or 4 rounds...

It must have been discouraging to fight a guy
like Chuvalo..hit him with your best shots and
he does not even blink. He blames some of
loses (Frazier & Foreman) on various injuries
or circumstances..and you DO have to wonder
what would have happened if he had gotten
rematches and been in at 100% percent.
Both Chuvalo & "Our 'Enry" are blessed to be
in such good condition in their 'twilight years'.
