  • Cool Song!

  • Anthem2!!!! :)

  • I think I bought this album when I was a teen because I liked the girl grabbing her tit. Anyway, the music was just as good. My introduction to early Bob Seger. Despite how great he became, this is one of his best. You can just hear the wonderful rock and roll potential this man possessed. At first I thought he said the F word in this song but he actually said "funky world." "Tales of Lucy Blue" is also a great song from this lp.

  • This is such a fucking great song. An instant classic if you ever heard one.

  • This was so hot back in the late '60's when I was a Senior in H.S. Me and my friends strained to hear if he said funky world or f__king world. Now I know the words but the song was one of the best by the Motor City Madman. Some of the best rock ever. Thanks for the song.

  • I didn't know this album was out of print. I bought a new CD copy in Toronto in 1995.

  • THIS SONG started it all:).

  • Joe dirt brought me here. Actually it reminded me of this song. I forgot about this song and I'm so glad I've found it again.

  • @Biraghi128 Same man. When Little Joe Dirt is on the train tracks LMAO. Good stuff for sure man Take her easy man. and if she is easy take her twice

  • Im suprised this song is out of print, although I prefer the live version from live bullet

  • @jamaral81 only in the USA.In fact only available in the USA on vinyl.I found a CD on Amazon co.UK for a reasonable price.Damn glad I did

  • I just found a lp copy of this album, awesome! lol

  • @6890speed

Me too! It's a good album to own on vinyl

  • OMG!!! I fell in love with this song when I was just 15 years old....and still love it.

  • Wicked groove to this tune...if you ain't movin' to this tune you're dead.

  • 4 people that are stupid as s**t

  • @TheShaw2122 They're probably Justin Bieber fans lol

  • Early Bob Seger. Classic rock and roll.

  • My arms always hurt after I hear this pure, no bullshit rock and roll. It's from playin air drums for two minutes and seven seconds.

  • hilarious...

  • @vinkleman - haha one of the best youtuber comments, because its the truth!

  • He is the motor city man! I grew up listening to him in Lansing MI. Ahhhh good times!

  • How the hell could anybody on the face of this earth dislike this!!!!?????

  • Great song, maybe his best .

  • @johnhharley48 Damn sure my favorite! If Bob had stayed with this exact up beat rock N roll killer sound right here... I'd be his absolute #1 fan hands down! I LOOOOOVE this track!

  • some good white soul

  • Meet Bob in 1970 or 71 Satalite bar in Port Huron Michigan. He was a regular guy had a few beers with him.

  • @65tripower WTF? Did you expect him to sprout a third arm and start farting rainbows or something? Of course he's a regular guy.

  • @65tripower awesome story, wish I was younger, what a memory you have.

  • Shame Seger himself doesn't give his early albums the credit they deserve.

  • @eruptionmat It's not even possible to give his early albums the credit they deserve, they're just so damn good.

  • @RunkkaajaApina True that. Couldn't say it any better myself.

  • 3 people have no fucking balls!

  • Great tune ... with an uncredited future Eagle Glenn Frey on rhythm guitar !

  • Love the bass in this

  • Canada loves Bob Seager !! I saw him at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto in the late 80's what a show !

  • dammn, i start to love seger more everyday

  • i found this 45 in a record store just outside of forestville maryland in the late 90's. it has a price of 49 cents marked on it & a drawing of snoopy. it is crystal clear. i'm assuming that the 49 cents was the original price.

  • i found this 45 in a record store just outside of forestville maryland in the late 90's. it has a price of 49 cents marked on it & a drawing of snoopy. it is crystal clear.

  • Ramblin' Gamblin' Man: Two minutes and twenty-one seconds of pure Rock and Roll bliss!

  • got tickets to Seeger at the Palace! so fucking amped

  • I used to listen to this track in my car on an eight track player at the South 21 drive-in on Independence Blvd in Charlotte and fantasize about playing a B3 like that.

    Or like Bud Hobgood.

  • aint good lookin but u know i aint shy

  • Cool Beat and Sound ,Loved It when first came out. Maybe one of his Best Beat and Best Sounding songs of all .

  • EXCELLENT!!!

  • This is both the shittiest and most baddest ass drumbeat ever.

  • I was born long legged, down by the riverside

  • lifes a garden digg it

  • Come on iTunes you got the Beatles now the the great Bob Seeger, ACDC, and other groups in your store.

  • Seger in his absolute prime. As good now as it was forty years ago.

  • @Tubernaut You said it all. All we need now is this on a quality CD. Mr. Seger...?

  • @sneezepal Thank you. I would be the first to purchase a CD consisting of early Seger recordings. This music never gets old.

  • this is real rock n roll at its best ramble on bob seger

  • Every time I've heard this song, I can't help but think it was recorded on a portable cassette player. It's just as raw as shit. I love it.

  • You just cant hear this loud enuff

  • This song makes me feel like jammin out!

  • Bob Seger is the goddamn motherfuckin MAN!!!!!

  • @kareemthedream33 goddamn motherfuckin right he is!

  • @kareemthedream33 He sure used to be.

  • I understand from previous posts that Bruce Springsteen has covered this tremendous song. Without having actually heard it, may I hazard a guess as to how Bruce "honored" this song? I suppose it started with a lengthy spoken preamble about his neighborhood and how much he loved to ramble and gamble and blah blah blah and there was this one girl that meant so much it made his voice get all gravelly and lah lah lah.........

  • @problem49 LOL Let me guess: not a huge Springsteen fan? I like some of his stories in his songs. As a writer myself, you look for influences wherever you can.

  • shake ya azz to this . . .

  • love this song that is me!!!

  • good shit man

  • Ain't afraid to look at girls in the eye.

  • they dont make great music like this anymore

  • GREAT POST ! ! !

Thanks for putting it up here.

  • So is all this talk about Bruce Springsteen just because Bruce covered this song in 2009?

  • The human metronome, Pep Perrine on drums. Does anyone have his solo LP? That is ultra hard to find, haven't seen one since the late 80's.

  • Yikes nice to see even the 70's had a walking ramblin gamblin cliche like the seeger system. Far more comparable to the 1910 fruit gum company than Springsteen but even that not favorably.

  • @feabas1 Just an FYI, this is not from the '70s. The song was released on 45 in February of 1968, the album in April of 1969. Being 13 and having a physically abusive parent, I related to the lines, "I was just thirteen when I had to leave home

Knew I couldn't stick around, I had to roam."

I don't really see the comparison to the '60s bubblegum pop band, the 1910 Fruitgum Co., but you are entitled to your opinion. I do remember that my classmates who liked bubblegum did not like this.

  • the best seger ever.....

i hear this one used to make people dance!!

still does,,,if any self-respecting dj, or cover party band give it a shot.

great stuiff from the Motor City a way baack when

    jctoronto

  • I love the music of Seger and Springsteen. They are both GREAT!!!!!!!!!

  • The best of Seger's work.

  • Shaking, rocking straight forward, no looking back Good percussions also. A fave track.

  • Bob Seger has Bruce Springsteen bitch ass in check.

  • classic fuckin tune bro

  • i LOVE Bob Seger, but all the comments hatin' on Springsteen make me sad :( Love them both!

  • Still stands up after all these years!!!!!

  • This is THE SHIT!!! You can't get Rock and Roll any better !!! The reason it is not on the compilation album is because of royalty disputes. As it was back then the "managers" wanted everything. They would put you on the road for months and take a percentage of everything that came out of you. The older the rock the bigger the con job by the "businessmen". That is why Little Richard was bitching up a storm a few years back, he hardly got anything for all the hard work he did.

  • My hat’s off to ANYONE that would have the taste to post this kick-ass classic.

Now for all the fans of this track, if you want to hear an incredible stereo transfer of this song go to the link below and be sure to click '480p' for playback:

  • AHHHH, the way music is supposed to sound!!!!

  • Saw em' live at the I.M.A. auditorium, Flint Michigan. My first concert ever. Rare earth opened.

  • JOE DIRT!!!

  • Come on! Come on! HAH! GIVE A LISTEN!!

  • This, my friends, is rock-n-roll!

  • Guys, leave The Boss alone, Seger and Springsteen are the two greatest minds in Rock and roll and always will be. I love both of their music, they are both great,

  • What CD can I find this on?

  • Battlefield Soundtrack #04 seems to have a clean version of this - FYI

  • true rock, proves all you need is three chords,,,love bob seger

  • "I'm a Man" by the Spencer Davis Group really cooks too.

  • Bob Seger vs Bruce Springsteen?..............It ain't even close! Seger by a landslide!

  • @doggskull who's bruce springsteen again? ah yeah, THAT guy...

  • @doggskull I could agree with you, but then I'd listen to Rosalita . . . . Sorry.

  • @doggskull I thought seriously about what you said. Then I listened to Rosalita. Sorry, can't go there. Seger got too darn sentimental, maudlin, and pretentious in his later albums.

    But this stuff . . . . . fucking magnificent!!

  • Early 1969 what a great time to be 18 in high school and listening to this on 93 KHJ AM Los Angeles.

  • I'm no fan of the Boss, but you should not say he sucks. How many songs have you composed tht went Gold or Platinum? (crickets chirrping)

  • just awesome this just groove on. kick ass.

  • Judging the fact that Bob Seger is from Detroit, this song may be inspired the music from the 70s show "The Hot Fudge Show" which was also taped in Detroit and featured Arte Johnson (later Larry somebody) and Seymour (think Dr. Teeth). Either way, It was inspired.

  • straight ahead ass kicking music.

  • My theme song

  • why is todays music so fucking lame? and the thing is, people actually like it! what the fuck!?!??! im fucking 16 years old and i listen to the old GNR and this for example, and you see 20 yearolds listening to that black eyed peas and all that fuckign shit they have now.

  • @username13245100

you talk about the mainstream music, yes that sucks

but look up samsara blues experiment, moon duo, brant bjork

wooden shjips, dead meadow... all bands of today that know how to rock

    and there are plenty more.

And by the way you have great taste for a 16 year old

    cheers

  • @Friskus22 thanks man. ill look them up :)

  • @username13245100

oh almost forgot Hypnos 69 and Colour Haze

    hope you enjoy

  • @Friskus22 k will do

  • amazing but night moves has its number

  • my mom actually used to think this was always Bachman Turner Overdrive

  • This song by Bob Seger is so awesome!!!!!!!!

  • lots of bitter bob seger fans here...

i really like this song either way but you guys should lighten up.

  • @skitzoooo There are good reasons to be bitter--Seger put out badass songs like this long before anybody had every heard of that guy Bruce whatever his name is, only to subsequently be considered by the general public one of his softy heartland followers. I'm offended that anybody believes Bruce has or ever had the raw fury Bob delivers on this track. Not even close.

    Go Seger!

  • @Sjack90

sounds like you're a bit butt-hurt because seger never attained bruce-esque success. Actually bob seger's so called "HARD RAW FURY" songs never attained the success OR general acclaim that his slower ballad type songs did.

Bob Seger has also said that he was inspired by Bruce as a songwriter.. from the man himself. So maybe you should take this up with Bob?

  • @skitzoooo Never said anything about success; that's far from my point. And to be honest I really enjoy a lot of Bruce's music and appreciate his genuine rock and roll spirit. And I do acknowledge that the commercially successful Seger we all know and love would not have been without Bruce.

But there's reason to be pissed off when Seger is dismissed as another Springsteen-follower when you listen to songs this. If that's your message, go listen to Springsteen's version and tell me the same thing

  • @Sjack90 I honestly believe Like a Rock killed a lot of Seger's credibility, with the chevy commercials. Really though I've seen him called the poor man's Springsteen and that's annoying and untrue. I think Mellencamp deserves that title...

Really I just thought a lot of people here saying Bruce sucks and things like that are going a bit overboard.

  • @skitzoooo And just as a point of information, Seger's biggest hit was the cheesy Shakedown, his only number 1, which, if you ask me, is only listenable because of his signature energetic delivery. Not a ballad at all, and proof that success and acclaim doesn't mean shit; it's one of his worst songs and his single most successful.

  • This version is simply put, "one of my top 10 favorites" THANKS FOR POSTING!

  • come on cowboys, Seger is great, but check out Lost In The Flood by Springsteen 1975 in Europe. Does not suck.

  • Why is the Midwest the best place to grow up? I don't know... the Great Lakes, pontoon boats, BOB SEGER, euchre, Faygo POP, good beer... just to name a few..

  • @MidwesternGentleman

the UP is the place to be..

  • shove it in ur face rock. i love it

  • I actually still have this LP from 1969. A gift from my Sweet 16 Birthday. Early Bob Seger, sooo good.

  • thats funny shit

  • this is detroit rock at its best!!! suck it!!!!

  • Just too Good~!!

  • heard this song for the first time in a long time today...big smile on my face! Happy childhood memories...young, healthy parents dancing and having a great time w/friends and family! : )

  • It don't get better that this !!!!!

  • One of the best songs of the late sixties. I am finally getting a CD of it, but I have to get it from Germany.

  • @susannreno their aren't cd's of bob seger system available else???

  • Ramblin MAN!

    Gamblin MAN!

  • This song has cost me a small fortune at the casino. I live by this slogan. I spent ninty-five percent of my mony on gambling, liquer, and woman. I wasted the rest. I am proud of every last cent that I lost due to this song.

  • I love it when I am playing pool and this song comes on.. I always end up either flat broke or buying the bar rounds..

    I love it!!

  • Love your comment. Great attitude.

  • one of his BEST! I hear it on the radio and I just about blow out my speakers!!

  • @AmyGirl1474 I did the same thing! lol, I was at a red light with it blasting and singing along, it's just one of those tunes...

  • Damn, I live 20 miles north of Flint... I didn't here about it!!!

    Thanks for sharing!

  • Sorry to hear about Dan. He was a great bass player. The one song that he sang on this album is just beautiful. He had a wonderful voice. He and Pep were a great combo. I really like Mike Erlewine's harmonica on one of this LP's tune also. Anyway, thanks for the sad update on Dan.

  • this song kicks so much ass

  • hell yes bro, bingo bango

  • this is bob seegers GREATEST hit.

  • lol funny thing is its not on either one of his greatest hits releases...but i do agree with you and some vintage seger that just hits you with a sound you know and could never mistake for anything else.

  • i love that strut and fire down below, but to me too this is his best!

  • @gittahfiend do you know who did the funky orgon and drums on this song?

  • @oldermusiclover I wish I did.

  • @oldermusiclover It's in the description.

  • @gittahfiend

It shoulda been on his Greatest Hits album, this is what's missing from that 1994 CD Compilation.

  • God, is this great or what??

  • Great, great effin song. Thanks for posting it!

  • I remember being a kid here in NC and dad would take me to the fair and he would a pay a quarter to see the go go dancers dance topless on a bale of hay to this song.

  • When you listen to a masterpiece like this, it just makes you realize just how bad Bruce Springsteen SUCKS!

  • Couldn't agree with you more!

  • right on! the so called BOSS is just an overrated bar band hack!

  • @coachhrothgar449: Couldn't disagree with you more. Well actually I could. I disagree on the Springsteen sucking but can't disagree with Seger ruling.

  • Yeah. Springsteen totally missed the energy of this song. The Live Bullet version owns.

  • @coachhrothgar449 WTF are you talking about, Bruce Springsteen is amazing. Why can't we enjoy both Bob Seger and Bruce Springsteen. Jackass....

  • @BBlueu2 i agree

  • @coachhrothgar449 Springsteen doesn`t really suck; I just don`t think he could come up with anything as funky as this!!! I like his stories in his songs, though....

  • Candy's Room by Bruce is one amazing song. I love both bob and bruce anyways..

  • @KOSMICKEN09 Yeah, let`s make room for both of em!!!

  • @coachhrothgar449 I'm on board with that!!!! A BIG FAT HOOOHAAA here!!! Springsteen isn't a third of the talent Seger is!!!

  • bruce is cool, there's plenty of other people to talk smack about lol

  • @coachhrothgar449

    Seger > Springsteen

Silver Bullet Band > E Street Band

Bob Seger System > E Street Band

  • Some of us new how bad Bruce sucked already, but yes, listening to this does confirm it @coachhrothgar449

  • so true. This 2:22 single packs more of a wallop than anything ever done by Springsteen.

  • This is the song that got me hooked on Bob Seger... Those drums are hypnotic!

  • Ain't good looking, but you know I shy. Ain't afraid to look ya girl in the eye... Such an amazing song. Could listen to this all day =)

  • Here's to you Tim McCarthy. RIP buddy.

  • awesome. it would be badass if you could post a studio version of rock n roll never forgets. all the live ones on youtube are a little off on the sound.

  • great song. do you have this on cd or dvd. best song he ever made. thanks for posting.

  • CD :)

  • @HardcoreFork On LP here
