MANILA, Philippines - Investments generated by the 13 investment promotion agencies (IPAs) went up 38 percent in 2011 to P763.018 billion, from P554.641 billion in 2010 as businesses continue to show strong appetite for projects on the back of the country’s stable economic performance, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) reported.
Data provided by the DTI showed the approved investments in 2011 will generate 195,637 jobs.

The Philippines will gain 13 million hectares in additional territory, an area slightly smaller than Luzon, should the United Nations approve this year (2012) the government’s claim on a region off the coast of Isabela and Aurora, Environment Secretary Ramon Jesus Paje said on Monday.
Called Benham Rise, it could turn the Philippines into a natural gas exporter because of the area’s huge methane deposits. The government is only awaiting a formal declaration from UN. No other country claims it.
