Why is it whenever I hear this I think of blood...? Oh, that's right. Thank you Hellsing. Thank you so much for that freakish death scene with Rip Van Winkle. Now ALL classical music will make me think of violence >:[
ashkenazy is an amazing conductor his artistry as a conductor underappreciated. today all the conductors obsessing about precision and technique without any understanding of how to make an orchestra play beautiful music.
Beautiful performance. Just watched the video of Stokowski's version of this, and it just seemed to drain something essential out of the piece. This performance is so much better.
We are maybe little piece of people in big country and also quiet but STRAIGHT and honest, Jean Sibelius is one big name what comes this land and many more coming after him also, some to sport`s, some to movies and etc...
Cold, dark, quiet but also very nice place to live.

E' VERAMENTE ECCEZIONALMENTE BELLO E COMMOVENTE. MOLTO BELLE LE DUE VIOLINISTE CHE INTERPETRANO I DUE SENTIMENTI DEL VALZER.

AutumnGray: Or perhaps it's because it is the "death scene" in a play called.... "Death" ? =)

ride xché ashkenazy non è 1 grande direttore d'orchestra,ma riesce ugualmente a ottenere delle cose magnifiche

Finally a conductor who understands that this piece IS a Valse, so it should be played with the rhytm of a Valse!

Outstanding interpretation of Valse Triste by the Chamber Orchestra of Europe.. What a beautiful piece of music .

@fifteenthwarrior I agree, Ashkenazy gets it just right. I greatly admired Paavo Jarvi in this music until I heard this beautiful performance.
