@BlueDragon3737 I don't have it but I would certainly buy it if in the market for another. The F3 was 440c but believe taylor brands is changing to a more inexpensive 7Cr17 which usually doesn't hold an edge as well because of less carbon content. The F9 is 1095 and more prone to chipping than 440c. I don't think you could go wrong with either at these prices. You can get a spark from a flint with 1095 but not 440c in case that makes a difference for you. Good luck!
@cyclist01222 k thanx Ill wate tell its at a low point n then buy it, only want it for my bug out bag so its not like Ill need it next week and if I do then my mtech will just have to step up :)
Great lookin' knife. I've used Schrade knives for years, and do more outdoor stuff with them in a year than most guys do in a lifetime. Never had a problem. I love to sit around and sharpen a knife at night, so edge retention isn't a big deal for me. I will have to look into getting the SCHF9.
@lardlizard both blades are 1095 steel and only differ by the chromium and vanadium. Regardless, 1095 steel inherently lacks high tensile edge retention, which is intended in its design. It's meant to hold a decent edge that is field expedient in resharpening. Thus, a blade that lasts considerably longer for the amount needed to maintain. Heat treatment for this steel would make little difference so, your only argument is on it's shape characteristics which is completely preference.
@lardlizard I liked the design of the SCHF9 and couldn't find a similar Kabar for the money. Kabars are great knives no doubt but I was referring to your shrade SCHF9 that didn't hold an edge, had poor QC and failed on you.
@cyclist01222 This knife does have a nice shape, seems like a great daily tasker for light wood work. Wouldn't want to use it for batoning though, seems like that receded curve would make for an awkward cutting angle.
I agree. I've had this knife for awhile now and I find I'm taking it with me more and more often and I have many much more expensive blades. Haven't had a problem with edge retention. I did thin the edge a little as it was a kind of thick for my taste.
@gryphon50 I did the same... a slighter angle is a bit better for woodworking and easier to sharpen. Thanks for your input and enjoy the knife my friend.
@lardlizard Sorry your knife doesn't hold an edge and failed. What task were you doing when it failed? No one knife is for everyone or indestructable that's for sure. I've beat this one to death and it stays sharp and can perform well with many different tasks. The fact that it does this and is very inexpensive is why I like it so much. I thought it was a good buy and could care less if it's from China or anywhere else. I had to be budget minded when I purchased it.
Surprisingly good knife for so little money. I am a knife collector and knife user in bush craft and fishing related activities. Good video man, have a good one!
@ironmonkeyz this knife is sick man. I love that Busse knife too but hard to justify the money which lessons the thrill for me. Love the straight blade and flat backbone. The Schrade is a bit longer though and about 5 ounces heavier... better at chopping.
shrade sucks get a real nife like esee or coldsteel or bucks you wont be sorry
boratjekshemesh 18 hours ago
@boratjekshemesh first of all it is schrade and it doesn't suck. Also I don't think he will take knife advice from somebody who can't spell knife.
