it's good to see ,however the vocal sequencing could be better done. I would like to know where or what song it was supposed to follow in the original performance.
Why the hell would you want to delete anything The Beatles did on film. As much as there is of them we don't have many quality performances of them performing their songs. It seems Paul is trying to make up the difference these days by performing songs that they The Beatles never did. Which I think is great. Can't wait to his next show he always has a surprise or two up his sleeve.
I still watch this movie when things aren't going smoothly or as John put it "in a Trough" and it brings things up. Richard Lester's talent shows in the making of this movie....look at the Herman's Hermits or the Monkees.....junk but Hard Days Night is really a good film whether you you cared for the Beatles or not...show it to someone who has never heard of the Beatles...if such a person were to exist and show them this film...I bet the farm they would like it
@sgtpeppersplanet Dick Lester actually did have a script. McCartney talks about it on the Anthology. The writer ( I forget his name) followed them around and wrote stuff each individual might have said according to each character.
Why is Russia's Putin in the control room? I don't think he was even a politician at that point or even an adult (or perhaps not even born). I think someone spliced him in as a commentary from the future post-USSR Russian Federation, something about the value of raising chickens in your suburban yard to offset carbon deficits created by emerging small businesses in Central Africa.
The lip sync is out because that is what YouTube does to all the video clips in order to prevent people enjoying them. It has nothing to do with any of the artists not knowing how to mime to records, which is something completely different to what YouTube does.
@slaynt YT doesn't put stuff out of sync because all my stuff and plenty of other stuff is in sync. It is down to the ripping/uploading software and or the interface between the PC and the DVD player.
What is amazing is that Hard Day's Night was supposed to be a 'throw-away' movie like 'She's Got to Have it'; instead, it evolved into a bonified ART FILM that had tremendous impact on anyone who saw it. Even now, 50 years (+/-) after the fact it still looks fresh and happening---I get goose bumps seeing it. I am forever amazed by the Beatles. They should have flamed out with Mersy Beat in 1965 but kept on evolving and pushing the envelope of Rock. No other band has done that.
@Armydicked , I agree w/ your comments; they are amazing! But actually it's only been 47 years since this film debuted in 1964; but if we count back to 1961 and earlier when they were together, it's been 50+ years in 2011. Crazy. I remember all the talk of the Beatles break up in 1970- I was 6. Too young to realize the impact, but I grew up listening to them from the womb. It's just crazy, but wonderful. As one writer said, "It's the Beatles' world, and we just live in it." ;-)
@Armydicked I've seen it several times. It had no particular impact upon me at all. It did occupy me for the duration, and was moderately entertaining. That's about it.
@Armydicked There are all kinds of reasons why this has stood the test of time. For example: a great script and acting talent on the part of the Beatles. A "smaller" reason is that it is in black and white which prevents it from feeling dated.
@observer9670 I'm certain that song was in the orig. release of AHDN I saw in the theater in 1964: I remember it because it came near the end of the movie & the Beatles sounded like we felt: exhausted. Decades later, when TCM ran it, I wondered where that song was; then the whole business w/ it being cut. Song must've been cut after promoters decided the movie ran too long; after 1st weeks in the theaters.
@CocteauDalighari According to Wikipedia: "The song 'You Can't Do That' was filmed as part of the film's TV concert sequence, but was not included in the final cut of the film""
@Verbeke7 True. Phil Collins was a 13 year old child actor in 1964, and was hired to be in the audience. Everyone in the audience were child/teen actors. Dick Lester felt that they would be able to react on cue better than just ordinary "extras".
Like almost all of the "performances" in AHDN, this is just a lip-synch.

I used to be a total Beatles Fan ( yeah I blew well...LOL)
But I'm lost here about it having been a song that was deleted from the Hard Days Night set ..
I'd have to watch the movie again ..... but I take your word :)

One of the best Beatle songs. They should have left it in the movie.

The first time this clip was available in it's entirety was in a documentary called "You Can't Do That: The making of A Hard Day's Night".

It was cut only for time. It was restored for some of the home video versions of AHDN.

A young Phil Collins is in that audience.
Just curious, is this an alternate take of the song, or is it just slowed down?

@Verbeke7 all the songs in A Hard Days Night are slowed down slightly. true. and very annoying.
