From Nov 09 to March 2010, out of 19 council houses, allocated by Tralee council 11 went to immigrants. Many Irish people are on the housing waiting list, some waiting for 7yrs, and the houses are going to foreigners.
Kerryman 14/4/10
This at a time when Irish children in care are being moved around in different care homes and B&B's. Some of these kids have been abused and committed suicide - they would greatly benefit from a secure council house.
I had the pleasure of working with John Doherty on FDNY, a true gentleman and a lot of fun to be with, may God rest his soul. John was a Donegal man, a great one.
im from Roscommon, Donegal is one of d best counties in this country, true Ireland and people know how to have a gud time and pride in the country unlike alot of the country now
This is one of my most favorite Irish folksongs which I learned as a very young boy back in my native Co. Sligo, and this is definately the most beautiful rendition of the song that I've heard so far!The singer is very good, and the accordion player is mighty! Go maire sibh i bhfad
DonsRecklessSon and wizzfoot stop arguing about the Doherty's, everyone knows the McDaid's are the kings of Inishowen!..(My Doherty cousin's in Buncrana will Kill me for that Ha ha!)
Thank you, in the desert I thought of home and memories of the place where lies my soul.I was born in Derry, but my heart is in Donegal: a bit of an identity crisis.Let this place so precious never to be spoiled by the hungry hounds of progress and stealth.
Im with you there buddy, theres no where like donegal,we just moved to the middle east and id give anything to see a border collie,,,, and an oul fresian,,,,and maybe a bit of a rasher,,, and and a bit of rain, oh and a pint of guinness!!!
Paul Brady's version of this song is beautiful. Old Diedre's not the greatest of singer's, bless her - but she's having a go,. i almost saw her foot move......Avatarprimus, I'm an O'Dochartaigh, the direct heir to the head of all doherty's,dockery's,dougherty's and any other spelling - (anglican included) Cadiz O'Dochartaigh ives just off la ramblas in barcelona, and has done for 400 years.(not the same person, but the family)
Hi Wizzfoot....that means you're the same crowd thats related to 'Sir' Cahir O'Doherty of Buncrana infamy, the treacherous, dirty cunt of a turn-coat that tried to sell us out to the English.... but they wouldn't wear him either. Don't brag about what you know fuck all about buddy! Coinnigh do bhéal druidte! The Dirty Dohertys!!
'Buille e taobha muigh de bhur toin!' it wasn't a brag, can read what i said without looking for an excuse to exercise your tiny little bigoted mind? my family left Daire in late 17th century for arranmore, long before cahir deservedly got his house burned down....Nothing to do with me,!I'm sorry for offending you mum, she's not a bad singer really. xx
hi, im from MEXICO, DONEGAL is my ancestors homeland by the side of my mother, they moved to Spain centuries ago and they changed their lastname from GALLAGHER to GALAZ, really i dont know why, can someone tell me if is known this kind of exodus from Ireland to Spain centuries ago.
avatarprimus - In 1607 the "Flight of the Earls" occurred, when the defeated rebels of the Nine Years' War, Earl of Tyrone Hugh O'Neill and Earl of Tyrconnell (Donegal) Rory O'Donnell, along with many chiefs and their followers from Ulster, fled Ireland. So alot of the Irish refugees that left Ireland settled in Spain and other European countries. Through the years alot of them inter married and so there names changed and eventually they became part of the country they settled in.
Your Ancestors had to flee Ireland because of the Reformation, which turned England into a
Protestant Country. The Catholic Irish were turned into second class citizens in "their"
own Country. The English Landed classes wanted rid of the Catholics and murder and starvation
were very common practice. This in fact was what all the trouble in the North was always about, the I.R.A.started to protect the Catholics and War broke out.
thanks for your comment, im trying to know more about that, our family is still Catholic, thanks God, so they did the right thing to preserve their Belief. thanks again. greetings from Mexico, and have a very Merry Christmas.

Is the accordian a traditional Irish instrument? I'm not that familiar with Irish music, but the accordian doesn't come to mind when I think of Irish music.
To hear that song once more brings back the memories of my younger days. A beautiful song sang by a very beautiful voice. From your second Ireland (Newfoundland)
What a WONDERFUL rendition! ~~~ Almost as good as that of Geraldine Sexton.
Thanks for the sharing :-)
