It should. Her hands should also look like she's done a day's work in her life, if you know what I mean. And technically,t hey should noth look to be in good need of a bath. But Hollywood being the highly visual industry that it is probably felt it was okay to take artistic license. lol
I have never seen this movie but can't help thinking Demi wasn't quite the right woman cast for Gary Oldman. I love Demi's films but this just didn't look right. I had better rent the DVD and see
hahahahaha... I had the same situation at school but with a different novel, and the teacher first saw it with us (the whole class) at the lab. and kept standing in front of the screen when a love scene comes.. It was so awkward and funny.
this movie was beautiful. though I must say it differs from the book. But Hester Prynne was quite the strong woman. I love her character as well as Elizabeth Bennett from Pride & Prejudice.
love the melody composed for this piece. so romantic
one thing i did not get in this sex scene in the movie was why they kept changing to Mituba in the bathtub... i really did not understand the significance in that lol i just wanted to see the sex scene the entire time!
You know, I really enjoyed this movie...but if memory serves correct, there were a bunch of big blockbusters out at the same time. Nonetheless, what a great movie...sexy....
It's a Hollywood version of the novel. In the book, Arthur Dimmesdale was a weak, deceitful and kind of creepy guy....personally, even though this movie totally strays from the novel, I like this version better. (Gary's hot, so hey, I'm biased....heh heh) :)
I saw the red bird and black woman scene in the bath as a textual conceptual contrast to the love scene, their love making the more mystical and oh so romantic.
I wish this included all the scenes of the black woman, the red bird, the bath along with the barn scene. From a woman's perspective together they created a beautiful sensually-romantic collage.
Actually it was the whole point of the re-edit... cutting the mas*** woman and the bird out because everyone thinks it's lame and annoying in the original scene.
@tresveryjolie So different in fact that the film may as well have been entitled " The Puritan Lovers" or some such. The film is essentially the cinematic equivalent of a bodice ripper- the book is a pretty grim exploration of morality.
You know, there was a rejected score to this movie by Elmer Bernstein, now available on "Elmer Bernstein: The Rejected Scores" along with "Journey of Natty Gann" and "Gangs of New York".
Speaking of which, in the Fred Saberhagen movie novelization for "Bram Stoker's Dracula", Mina and Vlad'tenderly, humanly, quietly' [made] love. Had the film used the movie tie-in's version of that scene, it might had looked something like this *sigh*.

My teacher in high school rented this movie for us to watch after reading the book.
thing was, the only time HE'D ever seen it was when he was in high school.
what he didn't know what that he'd seen the edited for school version. Which was not the version he'd rented for us.
Yeeaaaahhh, that was awkward. He almost got fired, lol.
