@paulj0557 no its no joke. Benjamin Franklin, the INVENTOR of this awesome machine, called it the GLASS ARMONICA, not a "Handmond tone wheel organ"

@primeorganist88 Interesting, it does remind me of a Hammond organ though. Except with a Hammond organ it uses tone wheels that have notched edges and they spin in close proximity to a pick-up (using a SYNCHRONOUS MOTOR- a Laurens Hammond invention) like an electric guitar, except instead of 6 magnetic pole pieces inside of a big oval bobbin of finely wound wire, it is 91 tone wheels in front of 91 single magnets,each wrapped with wire slightly thicker than a guitar's pick-up.

Is it a Glass Harmonica (or Armonica) . I love their ethereal sound. The Swan from the Carnival of the Animals sounds dreamlike on this. Ben Franklin invented it to make it easier because people played wine glasses at parties. So he came up with this thing! Concentric glass bowls rotating in a pan of water and all you have to do is play. Mozart and Beethoven both wrote music for this instrument, it was so popular! Cool!!
