  • The way Eddie's guitar compliments Roth's ego here is magical!

  • This album alone has sold more copies then anything Sammy can or ever will do with Chickenfoot.

  • VAN HALEN debut 1978

the WORLD has never been the SAME

  • musical evolution !!!

  • Gotta love my dad's stories of telling me how he's deaf now from blasting songs like this in his 1970 Mustang on his way to school.

  • @MrCleanPolo Me too...'65 Mustang.

    Man, those were THE days.

  • These are great sounds!-

  • My favorite Van Halen song ever!!

  • This one and "GNR: Appetite For Destruction" = fantastic debut-albums!

  • this is how u play the guitar boys!

  • Look out folks! We got a real keyboard warrior on the loose!

  • this is wayyyyyyyyyyyyy ahead of its time

  • 1:46 AAAAAAHHHRRGGGGG!

  • How come Eddie's guitar playing sounds way different on the Dave albums? Was it a different lifestyle, or did he just burn out and get sick of Sammy writing love songs all the time.

  • The magic to this album was a few things. They picked some real kick ass winners to go on there debut. What`s also magical is they did what no other band was doing at the time which was lay it down live in the studio then overdub the vocals. That`s why the album still moves people, the raw energy coming off the tracks is just intense.

There`s no polish, it`s just raw rock and roll. But it sounds so good you`d almost swear it was polished. That`s a testament to how good they were.

  • Such an amazing song........really love it.

  • F*%k the comparisons between Dave and Sammy! I grew up on "Dave Halen" and it was and is awesome! I also listened to Sammy Halen and loved it, and still do . They each created great music for everyone. If you don't like one version listen too the other. I love Sammy In VH, but there is no denying VH with Dave. Shit, just listen to On fire and thats all you need to know. So, im going to continue to enjoy both while the rest of the complainers keep having a pissing contest- Cheers!

  • @pdtrainu i couldn't agree with you more! The original Van Halen was awesome, saw them on Women and Children First tour and Fair Warning tour.. So what's wrong with liking Hagar? He's definitely cool and Chickenfoot Rocks!

  • What an amazing song to wake up to!! I seriously recommend it (or Eruption)!! XD

  • @91nickt

Then you can figure out how to land a job .... after the bong hits anyway ...LOL

  • @onlyafterdarkness ok....................

  • the scream at 1:45,,,,,,PRICELESS!!

  • 5150 sucks!!!!!

  • when i typed in on fire van halen doesnt even come up. what, the, fuck.

  • 5 people are enjoying riding Lil Wayne's you know what.

  • lil wayne is a nigga!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! compared to these guys one time when even white liberals would agree that a caucasain is better at music dan a brudda

  • Eddie was always more of a guitarist than a composer. However, his compositonary skills do shine out on 5150.

  • @Rosieisapunk1200 Do not say such thing. The riffs and melodies created from 1974 to 1984 were spectacular and had, in my humble opinion, more raw power than those of "5150" or "OU812", as an example.

  • Love this.

  • "lil' Wayne" shouldn't be able to even use the words "on" or "fire"... lol

  • Some one shud teach Lil Wayne not to steal song names

  • @REDCOWLINGS Chickenfoot is as good or better than VH???? LMFAO, if you actually believe that you either need a new hearing aid or you need to get back on your meds, maybe both. As far as satriani being better than Eddie, yeah keep dreaming dipsheot! Satriani is a classic example of a technician who has poor composing abilities (like most of them)! He can't hold EVH's jock as far as ability to compose a great song and that is what makes a great player. Chickenfoot = dipsheot LOL

  • @ghostzapper2006 actually i disagree, i think satriani is a better guitarist and composer BUT eddie is still my favorite guitarist. chickenfoot isnt better than van halen, but chicknfoot is still amazing.

  • @REDCOWLINGS

Whoa, an internet tough guy. Haven't dealt with those fakers before.

And you're one to talk about stupidity, having included not one lowercase letter in your previous post, nor proper punctuation, or even good taste. Chickenfoot is a good band, but nowhere near Van Halen.

Way to press charges on the other internet tough guy. Guess you really showed him, huh?

    Get a fucking life.

  • @TJKnight94

Hey TJ ? Go fuck a fish !!

  • @onlyafterdarkness Out of curiosity, what do you do for a living? Other than being a complete fucking failure, that is.

  • @TJKnight94

Hey TJ? You lack class here .. Can't respect you as a human being ....PERIOD

But I will hire you as an English teacher ... Any Day !!

You are so smart here !!! So confident and all !!!

  • @onlyafterdarkness Hey dumbass? You lack intelligence here .. Can't respect you at all

    ....DUMBASS

    I wouldn't hire you as a janitor ... shitface !!

You are so fucking dumb !!! Keep triple-tapping the punctuation !!! It's cool !!!

  • @REDCOWLINGS Lol, you're stupid.

  • Lil Wayne and Satriani aren't worthy to suck Dave's nuts ---- Roth is God

  • @Hunkola this guy's a turd. Satriani is GOD. he just gets so carried away with his solos that they begin to grwo boring.

  • @Hunkola

YT's first gay date here !!! here me out first !!

    It's Hunkola and Kickstart25

2 of DLR's biggest fans on tooooooober !!!!! EVER

These 2 assfucks were meant for each other !!

Both so engrossed into DLR and both Gay as well !!

purrrrrrrrrrrrrfectttttttttttttttt fuck both of thes assclowns !!

  • ... and it still rocks... and it won't even stop rocking!

    \m/

  • good god now

  • even today this sounds great, way better than rapshit and popboring

  • @bingrasm I agree with you, I'm sorry for my generation's music being so bad.

  • 3 people can't handle being on fire

  • Does anyone else prefer the version on the "Zero" Gene Simmons LP?

  • @smackinthemouth

It's good. . . but this one smokes it.

  • shame, this is the only song from the first album that isnt in the game.

i think we all would have loved to see this in it

  • One of the best screams in rock @ 1:46

  • The REAL Van HALEN.

All others bow down before them!

  • Insane!!!!!!!

  • That guitar sounds so awesome D;

  • fucking A+

  • FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This shit is THE SHIT!

  • So Ronnie Jame Dio is greeted at Heavens gate by St.Peter and he hears the opening notes of Eruption and he says in horror "No not him too!!!" And St.Pete says "don't worry that's just God pretending he's Eddie again"

  • @death13820 LOL

  • Dude, the band Stryper does a pretty good cover of this on their cover song album called The Covering.

  • What Eddie does on the guitar PROVES he is a genius!

  • Van Halen = God's band

  • poor poor wittle never been laid juhuhhuhuhuhuh

  • Still! The finest Van halen

  • @juhuhuhuhuh No, you suck, and you're a fag

  • @MasterGuitaristKyle it isn't. In the pt when eddies doin harm and the other music stops, it sounds a lot different. Stryper makes a lot of other great covers too

  • stryper makes a really good cover of this song from the covering cd

  • @guitarrguyy1 Yeah I know....I was listening to it, and I was like "this sounds so van halenish...I wonder if stryper on fire and van halen on fire is the same song"

  • this album changed rock guitar, guitar clinic from start to finish

  • the scream is awesome

  • I love this album, I love this tune. I love Zep, I love Black Sabbath, but I have to give props - heavy metal started here: aMfkVGCU_BA

  • how can yu dislike anything about van halen b4 hagar ?? thats almost blaspheme to dislike anything from this album

  • This song will beat your ass!

  • Awesome Song

  • THAT being said..I walked home with it and was blown away by the sheer ferocity of the SOUND of the guitar 1st...then the vocals(how was that guy screaming like that) then the mix...with Eddie on the left...this album catapulted them to stardom which was great for them but also bad because they were no longer hungry nor had ANYTHING to prove....the world was blown away..so everything they did after that seemed pale in comparison...but we do have that album to run forever...say what you want abo

  • This is one of the greatest songs of all time off one of the best albums of all time let alone being probably the best debut hard rock album of all time...I bought this new in the store at K-mart because I heard "You Really Got Me" on the radio...I went to the cutout bin and pulled a $2 sticker off of something and slapped it right on top of the regular price then went to the old lady at the cash register and paid for it....probably the greatest $2 investment of all time!!!!

  • his screams fit like a glove!

  • 2 people are not on fire

  • David Lee Roth's best scream at 1:46

  • Stryper does a pretty decent cover of this song on their new cd. It can never top the original but still a pretty good cover.

  • This song fuckin rules!!

  • The album that changed the scene overnight. Every tune a kick your ass take your namer and you were still comin back for more.

  • to anybody who enjoys the pot smoking. listen to this album to really blow ur mind and totally enhance ur high. works everytime.

  • these two people were trying to be Eddie Van Halen, they missed the ''like'' buton

  • This album was my first 8 track. And yes, I did play the crap out of that tape until it couldn't play any more.

  • @technodazed Remember when it would double track sometimes and you would have to wedge a book of matches under the tape to make it track right. LOL!

  • @purplerocks72 Yeah. Although my problem was the tapes getting eaten up by the player:(

  • It's hard to describe how good this is, it's so totally overwhelming! Excellent audio quality. Regards, '62 Mathew St. (Total Retro Rock)

  • Sir Lord Baltimore, The Stooges, and every proto-metal Japanese band started metal and punk

  • @DaygloCollective Lucifer's Friend, Uriah Heep, Budgie , Iron Claw, and Buffalo were also responsible and Blue Cheer too, hell, thers alot of bands u cud say laid the blueprints for metal to develop

  • Van Halen Kicks Serious Ass!!! Saw them at the Forum in Los Angeles on 6/20/81 and they opened the show with this song!!! They Kicked Serious Ass at that show!!!

FOR THOSE WHO THINK VAN HALEN RULES, I SALUTE YOU!!!

  • Can remember back in tha day tryin to blow my speakers to this bad ass shit!!!

  • Best era!

  • One of the best rock albums ever. I like every song on it, and that is a rare thing.

  • This song has great bad ass riffs.

  • Sabbath didnt come around in the 80's, the first two Sabbath albums were released in 1970. Zepplin was a bubblegum band compared to stuff Sabbath was breaking ground with. Sabbath is the premier metal band, all other follow.

  • @mrwizzord Yeah Zep werent as 'heavy' as BS but still Zep have some of the most memorable riffs and tunes going. Anyway i still love both Zep and BS but for me its always gonna be about Blackmore in Deep Purple and Rainbow, but only the Dio stuff shit gets a little too 'mainstream' after that. Biggest problem with BS rhough is Iommi, seriously one of the most overrated guitarists in history, a lot of respect for the man and the stuff he wrote but come on compared to Blackmore he's a child :P

  • holypussyhair! HEAVY FUCKIN METAL!!!

    hail Van Halen!

  • I'm on Fiyaaah!!!

  • When I find those two people...

  • come on folks admit it ed was the best sure vai others may shread get in more tech but ou got to have a song, singer with rock guitar unleashed.

  • Sickens me to know there is a Lil' wayne song my the same name.... how is that even legal?

  • @wimpyliberalbuster32 everyone sucks these days. music producers can't think of any new beats

  • @jowers10 beats which come from the machine usually suck

  • @wimpyliberalbuster32 who the fuck is lil' wayne???

  • @wimpyliberalbuster32 Lil Wayne plays the same rythm at the beggining :)

  • @wimpyliberalbuster32 Two part Q: Why would you know that and why even bring it up?

  • @foxwilliammulderx because it comes up on search before the van halen version, and it sickens me.

  • @foxwilliammulderx But we both know Van Halen come first above even many rock bands, so fuck the youtube search engine. How bout this?... We shoot that lil wang worm, he couldn't be as lucky as that 50 cent piece fucker.

  • @foxwilliammulderx Good idea. You prepared to go to jail for it?

  • @wimpyliberalbuster32 Best video idea ever: Someone setting l'il wayne on fire with the VH version playing.

  • @wimpyliberalbuster32 Sickens me to know that L'il Wayne exists. He's just disgusting to look at. I mean he looks like a tray of burnt brownies.

  • @wimpyliberalbuster32 It could have a different tune.

  • @wimpyliberalbuster32 dude On Fire.......you cant copyright that

  • @wimpyliberalbuster32 And it samples a track from GTA3... Some people are just unoriginal shits, and they blatantly get away with it.

  • The meaning of life summed up in 3 minutes

  • This is deffinatley one of the best debut albums. i have this on vinyl and i always listen to the whole thing like once a day.

  • 2 people are all wet.

  • Wow this is pretty much a pure speed metal song! Unusual coming from Van Halen.

  • fire fire fire plug your headphones in

  • yaaaaaaaaaaa its no business take good care of me . fuckin classic

  • this song makes me feel like im on fire. good god yall.

  • I dislike that someone disliked this.

  • @MajorIron I dislike knowing that someone disliked it

  • @bobmarleyisgod1 Point taken But this is HARD ROCK !

  • The whole album is great.

  • Somebody's not on fire

  • the person who disliked, i will set on fire

  • This IS Rock n Roll!!! Not the bullshit they play these days. WTF is wrong with music today? U2 is the ONLY band that makes M-U-S-I-C. Thank God!!! It was great to see Van Halen Dial it up with DLR. Wish Michael Anthony was still with them. Rock n Roll will never die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @slockyboy There is no real Van Halen without Mike Anthony his backing vocals are van halen just as eddies guitar or daves vocals ! If one is missing there is no real van halen.

  • I can't believe that this song was written over 30 years ago.

Needless to say,Van Halen is the pioneer of the HR/HM.

  • @underver Nah, the pioneers were Led Zeppelin. They were really the authors of Heavy Metal. Without them, bands like Van Halen probably wouldn't exist.

  • @TheAerochick13 black sabbath created heavy metal.

  • @CrazyEiche Nope... it was definitely Zeppelin. Black Sabbath didn't come around until the 80s. Zeppelin had Heavy Metal started in the late 60s.

  • Not a bad tune on the whole freaking album!

  • just spent some time listening to a few songs from 5150 and then came back to this...holy shit, compared to that album, this sounds wild, even dangerous! This is the REAL Van Halen!

  • @bareknuckles2u Rock albums don't get much better than this album.

  • @bareknuckles2u light up the sky is better

  • @bareknuckles2u --Excellent description...Dangerous! Reckless! Just listen to how friggin' tight the band is at 1:20 it's scary I mean for '77/'78 sounds this shit is just balls out heavy as hell even for today! It's HAUNTING!

  • @DEMONSPEED2112 Right on, bro! Awesome comment!

  • @DEMONSPEED2112

I know you must have a DLR poster over your bed dude!!! You seem to excited over DLR to make sense here...

  • Micheal Anthony stole this bassline from the Partridge Family Havin a ball

  • One of the best debut albums of all time. Not until GNR's Appetite For Destruction came out was there a better one.

  • @TheTommygun1963 spot on mate

  • uck yeah man.

  • Yes, yes they were indeed on fire.

  • @DISNEYlover140 Please, I swear, if I see another comment from you, I want to kill you, set you on fire, do anything that will make you stop. Also, GET A LIFE!

  • @DISNEYlover140 oh my god you again? first you insault Nirvana and then Van Halen? wow your musical taste sucks

  • @DISNEYlover140 your name is disneylover and you like jonas brothers both of them are for girls under 12 your so manly plus if you like jonas brothers listern to them leave us alone we like metal you like pussy music

  • @DISNEYlover140 Yep, they are the shit all right. In your case, "FTW" means, "For The Wankers".

We'll just see who is better remembered in 25 years, douchenozzle.

  • @DISNEYlover140 poor trolling...what else ya got? keep it coming cause it's funny

  • Man, I can remember being in elementary school in '81 and I was excited about my friend's birthday party because I could play this album and turn eveyone onto... only just the best band in the world..... VH are still my all time favorite band to this day. Best Rock N Roll lineup ever.

  • I´m On Fireeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!

  • Check the Six Feet Under cover of this..

  • Im sitting here staring a week's worth of AP work do tomorrow. This song might be the only thing keeping me from killing myself at the moment. VH FUCKING RULES

  • @PoundcakePlaysMW2 Hard to believe you are in AP classes considering you spelled 'due', do. But yes VH rocks my socks!

  • @Phitzgood LOL! I feel like an idiot now. XD

  • This song is fucking awesome!!!!!

  • What's today's music missing? Heart, soul and testosterone.

  • this album changed everything

  • @Metal1998 yer goddamn right!!!!!!!!!!!! changed the way I looked at music completely

  • @2006ilovejenna

I can't stand U2, talentless asses. Every song sounds the same. I refuse to give the "band of the decade" title to those asswipes. I'd sooner give it to Wham. As for Pearl Jam? Nah, they weren't as successful around the world. In America, Ten sold more than Nevermind, but globally, Nevermind is much, much higher. And they broke after Nirvana really got the ball rolling. As far as the 70's, I'd say Led Zeppelin. No other band had as much of an impact on stoner culture.

  • @TheGrungeLibertarian, as much as you dislike U2, I'd still definitely give them the band of the 00's, because they put out plenty of very high quality music, both on the main albums, and 'special release' albums of material they made from 2000 to 2009.

They're songwriters. Though they're not really a cultural force, like some other bands are, such as Beatles of the 60's, Zep of the 70's, various of the 80's, Nirvana of the 90's, and various of the 00's. The Shins of special note.
