Jack Payne was a perfectionist who demanded the highest standards, evidence of which is demonstrated here.
As to whether he should have stayed at the BBC is a moot point. It gave him freedom to tour and to film "Say it with Music", for which he received the colossal sum of £10,000.
Constant touring must have been demanding. However, he said that he made hay while the sun shined on Jack Payne & his Band.
Retired mid 1937 but reformed in 1938 he permanenly disbanded in 1946.
