I'm so impressed! We've been in Afghanistan nine years and still do not control the country and terror groups of 'global reach' are flourishing more now than at any other time.
I returned from KAF in January, and I was lucky to travel by air each time I went to a different FOB. In response to those posting comments about this war being about oil, my job was to manage fuel to support of US forces in Afghanistan and none of it came from Afghanistan. I worked with many ISAF countries, and its a shame that I read so many comments with a lack of respect for our coalition partners. No matter where a soldier is from, they sacrafice so much and deserve respect .

1) The current state for Afghans is more peaceful and freedom-filled than during the time of the Taliban. I completely disagree and so does anyone who actually visits the country. Not only do they have a land occupation (Taliban), they have a sky occupation (NATO).
2) Who is NATO to spread their morality to other people? Who are they to police others? The Afghan people don't want them.
I think you may have misjudged my comment, 'cause I am in no way assuming that the afghans are better off now than under the reign of the Taliban. I know full well that the afghan people are far from living in anything that ressembles a free country. What they do have though, is a chance and a future prospect to living in one, if the mission the NATO forces are currently acting under bears fruit.

Also, NATOs mission in Afghanistan is not one of policing, but one of retaliation and military training. They are a collection of countries united in defending and backing each other up in times of conflict - case in hand, the fighting of an insurgent government organisation that has previously attacked, and continues to threaten, countries that are part of NATO.

While the U.S. does get the credit for coalition operations, we also get the blame and the scorn around the world and in our own country. If its any credit, I have and will work again with Canadian forces as well as British, Australian, Polish, and Albanian forces. Actually, U.S. Paratroopers are in the most dangerous parts of Afghanistan. Korengal and Pech valleys in the Kunar provice. Dont get me wrong, we are all in this one together. The british are in the Helmand provice which is quite dangerous as well. Like it or not, our enemies shit themselves when they just think about our alliance. Soldiers around the world are spilling blood for the same causes. God Bless ALL coalition soldiers in Afghanistan. May you all come home safe

I returned from KAF in January, and I was lucky to travel by air each time I went to a different FOB. In response to those posting comments about this war being about oil, my job was to manage fuel to support of US forces in Afghanistan and none of it came from Afghanistan. I worked with many ISAF countries, and its a shame that I read so many comments with a lack of respect for our coalition partners. No matter where a soldier is from, they sacrafice so much and deserve respect .

Be that as it may, without the NATO being there to attempt to drive off the Taliban, afghans would be right back where they were before NATO's intervention - under Taliban rule and law.
Last I checked they weren't at the top of "most peaceful or freedom-loving people on earth"-list.
Sure they want freedom, and I can understand that - but they are obviously not capable of getting it for themselves or by themselves - so for now, they are stuck with NATO driving off the Taliban.

You're assuming many things
1) The current state for Afghans is more peaceful and freedom-filled than during the time of the Taliban. I completely disagree and so does anyone who actually visits the country. Not only do they have a land occupation (Taliban), they have a sky occupation (NATO).
2) Who is NATO to spread their morality to other people? Who are they to police others? The Afghan people don't want them.

I think you may have misjudged my comment, 'cause I am in no way assuming that the afghans are better off now than under the reign of the Taliban. I know full well that the afghan people are far from living in anything that ressembles a free country. What they do have though, is a chance and a future prospect to living in one, if the mission the NATO forces are currently acting under bears fruit.

Also, NATOs mission in Afghanistan is not one of policing, but one of retaliation and military training. They are a collection of countries united in defending and backing each other up in times of conflict - case in hand, the fighting of an insurgent government organisation that has previously attacked, and continues to threaten, countries that are part of NATO.
That a few afghan farmers disapprove is, frankly, tough luck

I somewhat know how you feel. I am an American, and a soldier. While the U.S. does get the credit for coalition operations, we also get the blame and the scorn around the world and in our own country. If its any credit, I have and will work again with Canadian forces as well as British, Australian, Polish, and Albanian forces. I appreciate their efforts, professionalism and dedication to the mission. Especially the Kandahar Provincial Reconstruction team. KPRT has been s**t hot in K-Town.

What about the UK and their contribution of 9000 troops? They are doing a very good job also, especially with Operation Panthers Claw. (This is separate from our other discussion my friend)
