A beautiful young, light voice and I predict we will be hearing a LOT more of this young man presently. He at least didn't get too tongue-tied as this aria tends to do to even the BEST baritones, lol! I wish him well and hope I'll see him at the Met one of these days.
Right, I am not really into this kind of music so I can't tell wether he's good or not (although I really like his voice and the way he sings) but I am italian and I reckon his pronunciacion is just great...no foreign accent, not even the slightest bit...well done!!!
The soloist lags behind orchestra in terms of tempo and at times it feels like he is straining to catch up. And what, pray tell, does Justin Bieber have to do with anything music-related???
The soloist lags behind orchestra in terms of tempo and at times it feels like he is straining to catch up. And what, pray tell, does Justin Bieber have to do with anything music-related???
Congratulation! Never thought there are asians who can sing in europian/italian so clear. Their language is so different from europian its hard for them to learn it. But he is perfect-- just listening, u will never know its an asian singing. Fantastic performance of a fantastic masterpiece.
@userfen You've never heard of Sumi Jo? I also suggest listening to Yonghoon Lee he is a Korean tenor who has made a spectacular debut at the Met last year in the title role in Don Carlo - I was there and he was amazing. There are others too. There is also an opera theater in Beijing and there are Western operas performed there. Also check Ying Huang. There are many others.
@elemileTLDR "Fragile"? The Koreans are a damn sight harder than most Westerners. Four years of obligatory military service and with North Korea for a neighbour - I think a spot of opera isn't the worst they have to go through.
stunning performance... i couldnt expect before actually watching the video that his italian could be that good, almost perfect, way better for sure than others i listened before this...
Wow! That's all I can say - This is incredibly impressive, an amazing voice and such a difficult piece to perform and he carried it with such a flair. I hope to hear more of this gentlemen.
Let's talk about it... he's north korean, so there's no connection between italian and his language. So... he had to learn italian, and believe me(i'm italian) it's not easy... then he had to lear "dizione" that's the correctly way to pronounce words, and this is more difficult than learn italian. he's a very good singer, but i think we must say he's a great man who has a very very good mind and a very good memory.
@BassManto he is south korean. nobody from north korea would sing abroad except when it's about praising crazy man kim jung il. please remember in north korea there is communism. peope are dying in north korea by hunger and persecution. so those korean you see abroad are from south korea that has freedom.
@Biggeri22 the one with the stick???? LOL!!!! it is call a batton. very impressive voice, very dark in the lower notes as a baritone, and very lirical in the upper notes, very cute.... sorry but i would let him sing to me nightly...and his acting is very good. non sono Italino , ma parlo Italino bene... Excellent excellent italian diction.
they messed up the audio at 3:07 and 3:29, the orchestra is never to drown out the singer, which they did, it's either the conductor's or the audio manager's fault, ruined those parts. I noticed a couple other times but not to the extreme the other two did.
@PridelessChickz Why is it so important for one group to have a skill and for another not to? I hate to break it to you (and anyone who thinks along those lines) but being from a certain part of the world or of a particular ethnic group doesn't preclude a person from having any skill or talent another person has. That's why racism or racialist views are bullshit.
@meeter I was just kidding you know. Chinese people usually can't sing very well...usually. This guy sings so well, it's hard to believe it's really him, so my comment is really more of a compliment when you think about it. Depends on you though :}
@PridelessChickz - "chinese people usually can't sing very well...usually. " that is one of the most stupid comment, i'd seen in a while. Just how ignorant are u ??? -_- FYI he Korean not Chinese you clown.
@PridelessChickz - "85% of the chinese people that I see aren't very good singers. And ok, he's Korean, whatever." Are your really that narrow minded or just thick? Korean, chinese whatever??? So they are all the same?? Your name should be Brainlesssmuckz. What a ignorant, racist prat. Hard to believe we still have rednecks like this in our age? btw nice pic ...lol
@PridelessChickz What are you talking about? What do you mean Chinese people can't sing very well? There are over 1.3 billion Chinese people and this guy is Korean, not Chinese. Where did you get that from? That's not a compliment because you're making a generalization based on ethnicity. What you're saying is stupid, plain and simple.
@meeter -.- dude, i said "85% of the chinese people I SEE". So, MOST of them dont sing very well, thats what i think. You may think something different, but that's you and this is me. This dude sings better than alot of people which shocked me cuz i didn't expect him to be this good...wait.. are we really fighting about a youtube video and a comment o.o? What ever though, you have the right to think what you want, and i believe so do i. Have a nice day, ect :)
@jakjak4161 Ok dude. You apparently have a sad sense of humor. I love all types of people, i have friends of all races and love them all the same. I was just making a comment and a joke and you had to go and pick on me. If you think im racist or not, i honestly don't care anymore, you may think what you wish. Do you really think i enjoy logging into youtube and looking in my inbox and having to read stuff like this? Do you really think i like being called names? Hope not. Leave me alone. Bye :)
My god, my friend and I watched it; and I just had to stop after 3 seconds of listening to it so I could glance at my friend to make sure she heard the same thing.
Make way to the factotum of the city, Quickly to the shop, for day is dawning, Quickly! Oh what life of beauty, Oh what pleasure, for a barber ... Of Quality! Ah bravo Figaro, bravo bravissimo, Lucky is he really, Bravo! Lucky is he really, oh yes he is... Readily at will, night or day, All around, always is he, Such a life of abundance, One nobler will you not find... Rasors and combs, Lancettes and scissors, At my command, All is at hand ... Then the resorts have you, of this trade ;-)
I like his voice, but he lost the comedy of this song. You must act this while you sing it to bring it to life. He fails in that regard and it becomes mechanical.
Amazing pronuntiation!! this guy is really awsome!! dunno if it's the recording, but probably he has a liltte area of improvement in vocal power... anyway, he's amazing!
Who gives a shit what race or nationality he is? He sings beautifully and performs admirably. And even if he didn't... anyone who has dedicated their life to opera deserves significant praise and respect in my most sincere opinion.
@englizeero um sorry for my another question G in which octave ? 4 ? dam... i can only reach f from 4 octave and hardly :S i just started singing from 3 years break,because i had puberty,im 16 :S
this is a concert setting not an opera on the stage, the performer does not need to wear the costume or make up as the person to fit to the 18 century setting. In fact, from my observation, in the old time, there are some people in mexico or Spain also have some Asian looking figures with black hair and dark brown eyes. Music is a universal language, it is time to open our mind for the fresh good taste and elegant appearance on the stage, not just to limit for the certain nationality appearance.

An amazing job however I was not a fan of the high notes. I understand improvisation but I prefer the classics. Although he does have Peter Griffin as a conductor so who can blame him?
It is amazing that such a comparatively small body can produce such a mighty voice - I think Tae-Joong hasn't reached his full potential yet and is one to watch. || Eine sehr vielversprechende Stimme - ich freue mich darauf Tae-Joong in 5 Jahren zu hoeren. Es kann sein, dass er Hermann Prey dann aussticht!
@Zachinabush92 Well, I'm "full" italian so let me say he's got a good accent but the words are quite messed up, it's actually barely understandable. Nice voice, though, and who's talking about race should know Italy is grateful to anyone who help to keep up our art and history, no matter where he/she comes from.
Goddamn, probably most asians love italian music more than we do.
@Wedhro It'd be the same with an American singing Italian operas... it's passable for the majority of the masses. And, really, are most operas performed within Italy? ;)
Absolutely beautiful. Bravo!

Shame on the conductor for allowing the orchestra to drown out this magnificent voice. Bravo, Tae-Joong Yang!

His accent is fantastic, He must have spent quite some time working on it, I've been working on mine and, well it rather sucks...and I'm part italian

@Wedhro: In my opinion his words are not bad at all, me 100% Italian too...just different opinion I suppose...but I love him

@Wedhro It'd be the same with an American singing Italian operas... it's passable for the majority of the masses. And, really, are most operas performed within Italy? ;)
