Wow!I just spotted Roy Orbison at the 4:11-4:13 time marker on this clip. What a great tribute to Dion to have this ensemble singing back-up!At his induction into the Rock N` Roll Hall of Fame, he had Lou Reed ,Billy Joel,Bruce Springsteen and Paul Simon singing back-up !
may have been last time Grammys did a doo wop honor but PBS has done a few since then. It's sad that with each new show there are fewer original members. Domenick (Donny) Bisogni, a NJ native, passed 10-23-11 @ age 64. He wrote, performed, and recorded songs under The Critters, The Excellents, and Donnie and the Dreamers. Gold records were Coney Island Baby, Mr. Dieingly Sad, and Younger Girl.
Yes, it is David, aka Buster Poindexter. You can also see him in another video I uploaded as he makes a presentation with Little Richard. Search under Little Richard Being Funny.
Not sure which one you mean, since there are two on this clip. "Teenager in Love" was written by Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman. "Runaround Sue" was written by Ernie Maresca and Dion DiMucci.
so amazing!! I remember watching the original so many years ago because my big brother had the foresight to not only "tape" it but make us watch it...Dion still with an amazingly pure voice, Jocko the original rapper & his clever rhymes, Speedo..priceless!!! Thank God my brother Bo still has the pipes to make Dion proud! Dont forget Ruben Blades singin backgroud ; )
3:06, You Can See Michael Jackson In The Background, I Didn't Notice Him There Until The Second Time I Watched This! Also Great Job Dion, May Your Music Live Forever!
wow dion sounds amazing here... yeah and there is roy orbison in the back, that year he died....also an amazing singer... and also remember johnny maestro...he is not in here but just passed away, RIP johnny
The Grammys were always a joke, but at least then they were a joke with actual talent. Dion out sings and outperforms every Grammy performance this decade and this was the end of his career.
This was a few months after his comeback. Put out a great album (and my favorite) the following year and about 10 more since then. Nominated 3 yrs ago for a grammy. He's been nonstop. Check them out.
1988 - that was probably the last time that the Grammys honored doo wop music in any way. Too bad - it's great music that should live forever. Thanks for posting this video.
Dion is so old now but his music still will love on. So amazing.

Mr Dimuci.....don't know what kind of pill you take to keep that voice, I'd be willing to open a store in Chicago for ya though.
Thanx for 50 years Dion. Ya still owe us a show in CHI-Town!

FYI - There is a Doo-Wop museum in Wildwood, NJ.
Each year nearby Cape May Convention Center
hosts a 60's show in April & a 50's show in October.

I HATE it when the audience claps along. At least half(at any given time) will be painfully off the beat.

Take note of Roy Orbison in the finale at the back. He passed away in December of 1988 this may be one his last times on American television.
