  • Thanks!

  • Makes a lot more sense now ^^- thanks <3

  • Dose any body give a crap about his life.

  • are you a goth person (no offence)

  • he really should be the official piano instructor of youtube, i hate when other people just rush through their videos, you can tell this guy actually cares

  • Hya Andrew- your lessons are unique and your natural delivery makes the theory easier to understand. It`s like talking to a pal- respectfully derek

  • nice lesson mate cheers! Shes Hot Mate your asian gf she played piano very well! where she from Philippines? say hello to her.

  • Good video, you cover the internal process, how to put theory to practical use, good work.

  • lol I always look up, down, up, down... Maybe I should stop

  • HES THE SHERMANATOR!!!!!

  • how do you guys read the notes as if you were reading a book? I can play piano songs well, but I dont read the notes, i just put a letter beside them and play each letter in the piano :) haha.

  • @orika001 i do the same thing and it takes me forever to learn anything but i dont write the letters. I read a tiny bit and like 5 minutes later i can kinda play a bar. then i play it over and over to memorize it. My instructor has never showed me how to read music even though he charges like 1200 a year. it sucks cuz im actually getting good but it takes forever to actuually learn stuff

  • Awesome dude.

  • at 2:46 I tought you said "five sexy males" lol, anyways thank you very much for us piano noobs out, your vids are much appreciated

  • OH! Very nice video! how insperational im really weak in my sight reading this helped alot ! =D

  • thanks for the vid. awesomeness

  • i like your lessons very much^^ thanks

  • thanks for the free lessons. im a beginner and learning piano by myself. It was a good thing I saw your lesson, I didn't know that Im reading the music sheet, like what you said, the wrong way. I just want to ask something. Do you mean that I shouldn't memorize the notes of the song? also, do i need to learn to practice sight reading first before learning a song? It just happens that i memorize the notes even I dont want to (maybe because I read it so slow). So, i am always unable to sight read.

  • How long does it generally take to be an adequate sight-reader??? I've been playing piano for 9 years ( im 14) and it haunts me how bad my sight-reading is. I know u get a lot of comments, but please reply. Thanks :)

  • Thankyou so much for doing this! I'm trying to learn the piano! This helps alot thanks! :)

  • you talk to much the same all the times talk less and tech some stop th bull shiet

  • I kind of knew about all of this already, but was never able to organize my thoughts (findings) to make them into usable pieces of information that could help develop my hand eye cooridination. Now I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel! This is really great! Thanks a lot!!!

  • sherrrmaaaann!!

  • Should I start with an easy pieces or should i just keep playing the music at my level to practice sight reading?

  • @thienfoil start easy and slow, otherwise you'll never know what's right :D

  • Hey can you give me tips..... see i have a problem I cant learn the right and left hand notes seperatly for if i try my left hand wants to do what my right hand is doing and vice versa so i am forced to learn both at the same time which takes longer to remember, so can you help me?

  • @coolsims94 Take it really really really really slow until you get it right

  • OMG EARTHQUAKE jk :^)

  • just to let you know, you never went over the rests

  • those who comment negatively are just insecure!

    you're so great!

thank you for this free lesson.

it helps many people who can't afford to have lesson on academy or something...

    more powers!

  • The guy talks too much :P

  • she plays very good your a lucky man better marry her .

  • thank you so much....

  • thank you so much...

  • who pissed on 'Chuckes' cornflakes this morning.

If he doesn't like these cool fun lessons then go to another site. I think Andrews style is awesome !

Carry on Andrew and take no notice of these bores.

  • Before you start a piece, practice the scale & the arpeggio a few times, clap the piece through, right hand then left, then both hands together with your hands on your knees. then go through the piece & try to hear it in your head & think about what your hands will be doing on the keyboard, Don't start until you're pretty sure you have a good idea of how the piece goes, Sight reading two hands together is as easy and reading one hand, it simply takes more practice & more preparation!

  • hey thanks alot for this, this did really help. Sight reading is hard. But i hope i get it soon, i was doing that whole looking up and then down thing lol.

  • @Ram0naDee

I was doing it too but my teacher kept reminding me I don't need to look at my hands, eventually I stopped :)

  • well thanks for the help... congratulations on your "anniversary"... you are a great teacher

  • This video was a big help--Thx

  • Man, you look really young in this vid, Andrew. The new ones you look older! xD

  • is she filipino or chinese?? can you clarify to me which is which?? you said...right hand is for treble clef and the left hand is for bass clef. right?? but what about the chords given above? do i need to play it?

  • Comment removed

  • XD actually, you're not supposed to sight read this music, It's an example of how to sight read. You're supposed to sight read back at your own home with a the rules/tips i explain in the video ^_^ to try to sight read from a video would be much to hard. :) btw my new videos mostly use a tripod

  • What book are you using in this video?

  • Oh let the guy talk. He's proud of his girlfriend and wants people to know that. Besides it's called "you"tube he can talk all he wants.I took piano for 2 years in high school many years ago and am taking lessons again so I appreciate the free advice.

  • great stuff

  • Oh.....So beautiful. Thank you very much.

  • right on braddah

  • He has a musician's hands.

  • Is your gf asian like filipino or vietnamese? Just curious :) U guys are so cute together both knows how to play piano ^_^ thank u so much for tutorials :)

  • is your girlfriend a filipina? or an asian maybe?

  • If you're going to teach piano which requires TWO hands, you'll need a tripod. lol

Your gf plays awesomely! I don't care for the opera singer, although that's how I also sing -- soprano. lol

But you also have to know what FINGERING your'e going to use too, right? And your book has a "1" on that first G? That's weird unless you're also playing that with your right hand? And if so, that's weird too.

Good I dea because teachers neglect to teach students "how" to practice.

    Thanks much.

  • thanks for this one, got to practice my sight reading..

  • if you people have problem with him talking a lot, watch somebody else!

  • You should be the official piano instructor of YouTube.

  • I agree

  • That was actually quite good mate. Thanks a lot!

  • This is why you use a camera stand, so you have NO excuse.

  • hot gf dude

  • nice lesson always look the next coming notes so you are always ahead of the song and do not look the piano

  • THX so much for taking the time.....solid tips and lessons.

  • the qutr notes have all tail like thingys that are pointed up or down and end at a specific line or space? what does it mean?!

  • nothing really

  • there is a head note. what does the pointy thingy represent explain all plz

  • u r a nice guy and thak you. but my head hearts w/all that movement of the camera. and is hard to follow u need a camera man or a good tripod.

  • Thank you Andrew, Yes it did help. Everything you tell us helps

    Marie

  • hey no negative comments guys. He teach us for free, so we should be thankful there's a guy like him sharing things. Too much talking is ok as if he's trying to relate things to make it easier for us. He volunteered to teach people and not getting paid. Have patience guys he helped a lot of people here. Go buddy!

  • Hi Andrew, can you tell me the name of that book, thank's a lot!!!

  • tetaso

  • THANKS MAN !!

    this is very helpful

    and you're a great person

  • you are very welcome!

  • Hello Andrew thanks a lot for the great information by the way do you know any book that can help me sight reading.

  • Lypur, loool, that thing about finding the right note by looking one time to the sheet and then looking to the keys is a big mistake I was doing yesterday, but today just before this video, I found that reading the sheet and trying to find the note is besides better, it helps knowing the kayboard without having to look at it. Thnks, I'll keep an eye on your videos since I've been learning alone for a month now. Did a performanc when had some days of learning on my chnl in case you want to opine.

  • Andrew,I can't help but to comment, besides of being talented person you are, you've got a classy taste on choosing a girl. Tell her she's so" MAGANDA TALAGA." thats Pilipino word means she's gorgeous. I am a Filipino.

  • thanks!!! I definitely will tell her that:D

  • and i like the way you explain things like referring to checking your car before you get in. hahahaha. good lessons.

  • your girlfriend is SO good

  • YEAAAAAAAAA! YOU ROCK

  • NOC about you.

  • Your so mean.

  • huh? what? i'm mean?

  • Lol who said your mean? I said can you recommend me any book that can help me sight reading...

  • omg

reding both bass and trebble cleff is hard ash hell

  • yea, it takes awhile, but you'll get it just practise one hand at a time, and go SLOW

  • My band class thinks of thinks for the key signitures like Fat Cats Go Down Allyways Eating Birds or Bambie Enters A Dungeon Growling Creating Fear
  • what did he do to u?

  • lol

  • you say "like" too much.

  • arrgh! I know! It's a very bad habit I picked up from one of my friends a few years ago. Believe it or not I've cut my usage of the word like down by like 400%

  • lol u said like again haha

  • i know i did :) that was supposed to be a joke ;)

  • One way to help reduce the usage of the word "like" is to replace it... because sometimes a word is needed to help the rhythm of the sentence. I realise "like 400%" was a joke, but you could say "around 400%", "about 400%", "close to 400%", "somewhere in the order of 400%", "near 400%", "probably 400%".... there are so many other words. By consciously using them, "like" will only be used when appropriate (eventually). Take care, and thanks for trying to teach the world to sight read.

  • time signatures - Thats easy, it just means the amount of "time" in each measure. So if you have 4 quarter notes (or equivalent) you have "common" 4/4 time. 6 quarter notes would be 6/4 time, ect.

  • Could you please explain to me about eh time signatures? I always need to hear the song before i play it (i can read the notes quite well) but i just don't understand the time signatures!!!!!!

  • i covered time signatures in lesson...6 i think? it was one of the early ones, try checking back on those

  • Congratulations on the idea of giving piano lessons on youtube! If I can make a suggestion concerninc your efectiveness... Can you perhaps stick more to the topic, eliminate the excess words and many repetitive details? I was curious about what you were delivering, but it was hard to me to follow the whole thing without getting distracted.

  • When I learn pieces with fast passages i can't help but rely on hand memory. The problem is that when I do that I tend to always make mistakes. What can I do to be able to play fast messages without messing up when relying on hand memory?

  • use alternate rhythms such as fast/slow and slow/fast to build more security ^_^ on fast passsages

  • Hi Andrew great videos, thanks for your time in doing these lessons you can tell sometimes you dont feel like doing them. I havent seen anything on rests yet i dont think. It only dawned on me at L #17 but i think beginners would like to know about rests and the notes the rests are relative too. Thanks

  • Sorry to be rude... but it a real pain to rewind to recheck and have to mess around with finding your place due to your story... =( sorry

  • the lesson is took so long before starting...we dont care bout your Girlfriend...

  • nice hair me liky im happy for your anniversary

  • Umm WOW...

  • you are doing at great service in making people aware of their interest in learning to play, keep up the good work !!

  • skip ahead, that's the beauty of a recorded video

  • but keeping it short would do you good too, image-wise... it is frustrating to skip back and forth

  • yea i agree, not all my video's are this disorganized

  • Rofl :P **Not LIFE STORY PART 5**

    Fun :P

  • lol at 7:06 tu tu tu tu tu tuw

  • Man your cam makes me dizzy!!!

  • Thanks for posting these how to play piano videos but could you separate other irrelevant things from your lessons?

  • just let him be himself. How much do we pay for his generousity?

  • That was funny... "oh crap" hitting the wrong note to end the piece!
