@McRipper80 Well, with all due respect, I disagree. There's more in guitar playing than being clean and fast, which Kee Marcello is. There's the ability to compose things that stay in your head forever, there's the feeling and the rock & roll while you play.
That said, I don't really hear much "feeling" on Kee Marcello's playing. He's very fast, clean, precise, etc. but I'm not sure I would put him on a pedestal only for that.
John Norum is quite good and I think I like his style better.

John Norum he's the reason my 4 year old daughter wants to learn guitar. After watching Final Countdown with Norum she looked at me and said buy me a guitar so I can do that. That was a year ago and she's still talking about guitar.
They are both very skilled guitar players (and I have seen JN playing for over 10 times now) but I tend to vote for Kee. His solos fit in the songs (hard rock) more adequately - wheareas JN's solo's suit metal songs better I think - , besides as you are playing in a rock band, you should have contact with the audience and JN does not make any contact at all with the audience wheareas Kee knows very well how to make contact.

@LSDisease I have to disagree with you here. After hearing the last 3 Europe albums, I think John Norum is an amazing guitar player. And besides that, not everything is about technicality in music. I prefer John's sound for example, love the way he plays and what he comes up with, and I have to say, that he's absolutely amazing.
So "better" can be a lot of things. I love the way Adam jones plays for example, but he's no player like e.g. John Pettruci, but I prefer to listen to him :D

This duel is unfair! You've missed most of Kee Marcello's best solos! Where's "Ready Or Not", "More Than Meets the Eye", "Tower's Callin'", "Just the Beginning"? As for Norum, check his live '86 version of Ninja, it just mind blowing (it should be in this duel also)! Both are great & I can't tell which one is better as both some unique style. He is very underrated and nobody can't beat the ''Superstitious solo'' in my opinion.
Because that guitarsolo really fitted the song and was not about showing off his guitarskills (and that is very rare in the 80's with people like EVH and Yngwie Malmsteen).
Another consideration is how each man do rhythm. I love norum's superb rhythm esp old album(parasize bay, ... wings of tomorrow, sream of anger) and kee for outstanding solo (live concert + out of this world).
It's John Norum because He is Better and is a Founding Member of Europe. Remember if John Never left Europe Kee Marcello never would have to Replace him. Without John Norum there's no Kee Marcello.

John Norum was the one who invented and recorded all those solos originally. Besides having superb technique he is the greatest melodist, which is very rare for guitarists. Norum. I like his less processed tone. There is a great live video of John playing an extended intro to Aphasia over some nice warm key pads. It is a good display of his skills. He is much more than just a "pentatonic noodler". I can't believe someone said that.

Sorry, but he doesn´t. He´s only got tons of distortion to make it sound like that. If you´ve got so much distortion, you almost don´t have touch the strings to be able to play like that. If you´d put kee marcelo with his guitar in john norums rig, you´d understand what i mean.

Norum. I like his less processed tone. There is a great live video of John playing an extended intro to Aphasia over some nice warm key pads. It is a good display of his skills. He is much more than just a "pentatonic noodler". I can't believe someone said that.

Norum ftw, Kee doesnt have the feeling and he does never improvise wich makes him booring, plus Norums got the right touch and hes timing is sooo fucking perfect! i will allways love Norums playing.

To me Norum is kind of just a pentatonic noodler. Kee's solos are much better thought out, plus technically he's a LOT better.

Sorry, but he doesn´t. He´s only got tons of distortion to make it sound like that. If you´ve got so much distortion, you almost don´t have touch the strings to be able to play like that. If you´d put kee marcelo with his guitar in john norums rig, you´d understand what i mean.

I'm so agree with you, my friend. And if you want a prove, you only have to hear what kee did with norum solos at the final countdown tour. However, Norum can play kee's solos with more power and more more feeling. I love Norum's way playing girl from lebannon!

I think anyone can say he/she likes John Norum better, because it depends on tastes, that´s true, but when it comes strictly to better control over the instrument, best tone, more accuracy/cleanliness... Kee is quite superior, and I think Norum has improved A LOT since he left Europe.

Well I agree with you! Kee was good for Europe when they did the Out of the World album etc.. And he can do good solos. But John Norum trys all types of gutiar work and it works everytime, so really you can't judge either of them! But I favorite would be John Norum!
