I really don't understand why square faces are so hated, I don't want to hide it at all and I hate it when they tell us square-faced people to "soften" our angular features. Why on earth is an angular jaw "rough"?? Everyone is free to have their tastes, of course, but society shouldn't tell the non-oval-faced people to hide their natural features because their face isn't the "ideal" or "perfect" one...

@nicolekcox I wouldn't take it seriously. I think they say an oval face is ideal because it's versatile and balanced (not too square, not too round, not too angular). Take sunglasses for an example, an oval shape can wear any style while all other shapes have to wear a particular shape to give the face a 'balanced' look. When contouring, your creating an oval. I'm Not an oval-shaped face but I'm not offended by watching this vid becuz it actually have some truth to it. I love my face still.

hey umm i can't tell if my face is square or heart shaped. what's the difference? and my forehead and cheeks are wide but they narrow at my chin. i have a sort of square-ish chin but it's narrow and sort of pointed at the bottom.

I'm confused, my face is longer than the width. My jaw is more rounded than angular and my jaw is slightly thinner than my cheeks and my forhead. My forhead and cheeks are about the same width. I thought I was a rectangular face but I'm really not sure cause I lost weight. Now I think I'm a heart or oval gah I'm so confused >.<

wow so informative. i love your channel :) ive got a problem. i cant really determine my face shape.. its either a pear or a diamond. so i measured it. length is 8 inches, forehead is 7.4 inches, cheeks are 11 inches, and jaw is 9.5 inches.

? for maeupartbycarnelle: I noticed the diamond shape face- I was told I had/have this shape in 2004 from an expert cosmetologist. Yet, I've researched the internet to discover I have a "pear" shaped face (like diamond with a wider jawline).

@candyxxx2006 Well if you have long hair, you can try cutting layers around the hairline, shorter layers skimming your jawline, still keeping the length, as the hair length makes your face appear longer, now your new hairstyle covers and hides the jawline, use a GHD to curve these whispy ends in along the jaw. If you have short hair you could blend and buff in a shader on the actual prominent corners or fullness of the jaw, to minimise this area.

Right on, Im not saying what face is the ideal face shape, it came about a long long time ago, Da Vinci even thought up a theory of this to teach people how to draw, so images could be recreated with reality. But dont take it too seriously, I alway say everyone has a beautiful face no matter what their face shape is. Im sure you have a great face too, Enjoy.

I hate the idea of an 'ideal' in anything related to physical appearance because it is disregarding the beauty of the other features; it also makes me feel pretty bad about myself as I have features that are described as 'masculine'. Find out what kind of face shape you have first.

Get one of those flimsy measuring tapes (not the metal ones).

Find a video on how to measure your face shape. There are many of them, just search.

Yeah it is sort of like an oval face but it has angular features. The hair line and maybe jawline are squarer more angular to look at. if it was oval the hair line and jawline would curve thru rather than have strong straight lines.. can you see this??

Hi I'm sure its not too weird, But if your forehead is biggish then maybe a fringe would work for you. Soften the squareness with bronzing powder on your square angles, I'm thinking the jawline, then add length to the cheek to mimimise roundness, if you have larger cheeks . If you don't have or don't like a fringe then with matte your bronzer add color to your hairline cutting off the edges above your temples leaving an oval shape. remember to blend into your hairline, this looks more natural.

You can have your hair cut so that it is whispy around you face to narrow or a fringe to shorten your forehead.

Different lengths around the jawline and face will minimise and help face appear smaller. Using your hair to do this as opposed to high-light and shading.

Sure there is combo faces.

But first look at your hairline does it softly curve off (oval roundish) or does it look angular(square rectangle),corners instead of curves. a long face can be rectangle but if your hairline curves off it would be oval. That is why you have different comments. If your hairline curves round your face, but your jawline has very strong bone structure, giving square or angular appearance.You could say its a square oval or rectangle oval.

It seems that for every face shape you simply "add blush to just below the cheek bone and blend back into the temple."

It may look that way but it depends, for example if you have a longer or rounder face, for a longer face you would apply along cheekbone in a horizontal fashion,giving the illusion of cutting out too much length.

if you are rounder you would blend along cheekbone but in a more vertical fashion, this gives length and the Illusion of an oval shape to the face. So there is slight difference to each one.

Which individually makes a great difference to that particular face shape.

OVAL, We have distorted her shape for each shape. So when you see the white box over her face its indicating a shape. Put an imaginary 9 box grid over your own face. Do you have large forehead, or do you have wide cheek bones? is it smaller from your nose to chin than eyebrows to hairline? Imagine an oval shape over your face. does your face fit into the oval or is it squarer around the jaw? do you have a widows peak hairline? indicating heart shape.

Yes it is but if your jawline is narrower, it could also be a heart shape. fuller forehead prominent cheekbones tapering off to narrow jawline. Sometimes also it could be classed as an oval heart so you are combining two shapes for the one face.
